I don't need to meet someone to know what kind of a person he is. Actions matter. I was furious at Heir Goodell back in the Spygate era. He's made things worse since then. He may be an owners' pawn, but he is truly a despicable person as well.

So, all the booing every time he walks to a microphone anywhere gives me a lot of satisfaction. His obvious discomfort presenting the SB trophy to Kraft was the cherry on top of a fantastic day last February. The fact he has to have a security escort to the opening game of his league's season makes me smile. The thought of how he will be remembered down the road gives me a lot of satisfaction. The thought of the universal day of celebration that will occur when he resigns/is canned from his job gives me satisfaction.

I'm not normally a vindictive person, but when someone in a position of power repeatedly abuses that power, I have no problem holding a grudge against him.

I don't know the provenance of the poster. Bad comms strategy, however. He is dealing with a fan base that has been trading vilification of Goodell for 10 years, and with good reason: he unequally exercises his power, to our detriment, regularly. His methods in lawsofnaturegate included lying about the "independence" of those preparing the report, lying (by footnote sometimes) about what the findings meant within the report, smearing the pats in the press prior to publication, declaring himself a neutral arbiter while he'd reached his decision a priori, and when the truth couldn't be stretched any further to produce even a fake smoking gun, promote "more likely than not/generally aware" to some heinous crime by way of outlandish penalty.

This is a lesson on the limits of "core values." They can lay out a company's aspirations for internal consumption. Using others' core values (history, etc.) to encourage them to behave in a way antithetical to their prior ideas on a matter is unlikely to succeed as attempted here.

I think the comments here are good metrics for the tactic's performance - whether this guy is a shill, or whether this is real to him.

One big mis-read is that to build his case, he invokes at length "who we are." Boston/NE ain't Gandhi, especially not our football sentiments. We're more about do your job than visceral hate than many. Perhaps that makes us believe that goodell should do his too.

Throughout the year, and at the end, both of them treated Deflategate as a blip, and they didn’t need to waste another breath obsessing over it. And they succeeded as a result. With that observation, I felt I could move on and let it go, too.

But about 5% of the post dealt with not holding a grudge against Goodell. And that clearly invoked some really strong reactions. While I stand by the comment, I am more disappointed that it detracted from the larger message , but the fault was mine. Either the writing was off base or I failed to really know the audience. Either way, it was my bad. But either way, I don’t need to hold any grudges. It won't do me any good

I think it was a finely written piece, but most of us felt too strongly about your personal position on the controversial subject matter to see the bigger picture.

I will always hate Goodell for how he handled the "scandals," but I never really cared for the idea of the **** show that was Clown Out, either. All summer long, I kept making comments like "as long as they win the game, etc." I'm just glad that people didn't wear red rubber noses like some suggested. That would've fueled millions of internet memes from the other 31 fan bases that would've rivaled the famous J-E-S-T pic that still goes around.

At any rate, thanks for coming back to clarify your stance. In all of our hearts, Goodell will always suck, but that's not meaning to suggest that your moving on is wrong, either.

It's a great experience in their young lives and they are excited and wide eyed with anticipation. Perhaps we wouldn't have attacked your "5 percent no grudge" stance if you didn't make it your opening point and your closing point of the post.
I learned the "Yogi Bera" rule of writing a paper 50 years ago. The begining paragraph starts with " I'm gonna tell what I'm gonna tells ya,(no grudge) followed by "then I tells ya what I'm telling ya"(supposed to be supporting facts) then I conclude with " I tell ya what I just told ya"(no gudge). So Piccolo it appears that your "it was only 5 percent claim of no gruge" explanation is hollow. In fact the 5 percent no grudge point was indeed the point. You sir made that the larger message. When you begin and conclude a piece with one thing and then stray off from that in the rest of the piece then the middle just becomes blah, blah blah.

Borges' rationale is that Goodell makes money for the league, and he himself is paid lots of money.

So, if it's all about the money, Bravo.

Goodell has done everything in his tenure to damage and destroy the game for players, coaches, officials and fans - even vendors - in short, everyone.

Further, he has succeeded in wiping out any semblance or pretense of integrity in the National Football League. Yes, that includes malevolent, corrupt bias against the New England Patriots which he picked up where Paul Tagliabue left off*

*in case you didn't know, Tagliaboob slapped the Broncos on the wrist when they, unlike the Patriots, actually cheated in both Elway's last years ('97-'98), with what should be tainted SB's, six years after he declared the Patriots "damaged the league" and he found culpable and disciplined several young African-American players who were accused of "rape", on a team that finished 1-15. So much for league bias being based upon winning.

but also includes despicable actions with regard to dismissing the abuse and attempted murder of women, and the dangers of concussions.

So, congratulations to Goodell, for making lots of dough and doing everything to hurt and injure people, from a position he holds where a lot of good, for people and the game, could have been accomplished whilst arguably lining the owners' pockets even more (protecting people's welfare and rights actually wins appreciation and respect and admiration, things that Goodell will never know).

Puzzling, how most seem to get it with regard to Goodell, even if their disgust increased with GoodellGate II (mine reached its nadir ten years and a week ago with GoodellGate I-impossible to sink any lower when you're at the bottom).

Yet, when the malevolent league assigns one of its own who has nothing but contempt and disdain for the franchise here, whose only interest is to change the name and move it to his hometown, and after five minutes here commissions said league to hastily come up with a replacement for the both the best logo in sports and the one we've always had since our inception; and who gets bought out for an extra $50 million, and beyond the insulting, offensive motivation behind its unholy creation, as the Patriot who displayed the replacement logo spoke for all Patriot and football fans the world over, "It sucks."

While everyone I've ever spoken to about it is unanimous, a clear majority on this site meekly accepts the Arena-league rejects and even proudly embraces them.

Ok I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond to you as if you are a nice old guy that had somehow missed Roger Goodell's freight train that steam rolled through here two years ago.

I'll forgive you for that ridiculously delusional post and I'll accept your poor attempt at a mea culpa which seems to imply that you didn't realize the uncivilized or barbaric nature of "your audience" but to suggest that Roger , although wrong, acted with moral fortitude is just unbelievably naive at best.

Your original post is littered with this drivel deeming your opinion meritless and was the reason you received the responses you so thoroughly enjoyed:

- Thanks to Judge Berman ordering to have the appeal transcripts released we know Roger lied about Brady's testimony. We also know the NFL had no idea about the Ideal Gas Law and had never tested footballs. We also know that Brady had turned over all his phone records to the NFL and they refused to go through them.

- Thanks to Judge Berman we learned that the NFL had its own legal counsel edit the Well's report. Independant report my ass.

- By the way, this is not the first time Mr. Goodell, your buddy, has been caught lying in court or on the record. He has done so multiple times.

- By the way #2, this is not the first time Exponent has been caught manufacturing a scientific opinion for their clients. They have had their junk science tossed out of courts.

That was just four bullet points to shine a light on your knight in shining armor's "character". There are many many more. Just Google it.

That is not a man with "the best intentions" at all.

- Roger got caught with his dink in his zipper. If you followed the entirety of Defamegate from beginning to end it would be clear to you that Roger, your buddy, never thought Brady would fight the accusations as hard as he did. Thank God he did because it led to Judge Berman's order to release the transcripts from both Brady's appeal and the hearing. That embarrassed the NFL.

- Roger took this case to the NY Circuit Court of appeals. Somehow, miraculously, a judge with an Amicus brief in hand claiming the science behind the Well's report was in fact junk and signed by 21 Doctors of Science, came to the conclusion that the NFL's case was "Compelling if not overwhelming".

That's when this became a serious issue because now it wasn't something just hurting a wealthy football star rather now it was hurting every blue collar working guy connected to a union by giving the arbitrator seemingly unyielding power. The same man who accused you can now punish you and listen to your appeal. That's insane.

How in the world did you envision Roger F'ing Goodell as some kind of superhero gone astray ??

- Look at his Domestic Violence record. It's disgusting and it's not because of poor judgement.

- Again your ethical deity got caught lying in a court of appeals regarding a domestic violence case, further embarrassing himself and the league.

Many many more examples of his domestic violence bungling available in a simple Google search.


CTE/Concussion

- The NFL knew about the concussion issue as early as 2000 if not earlier but instead of getting ahead of the issue they publicly debunked any independant medical research using nefarious methods.

- The NFL publicly told families with football playing children all across the country that there wasn't anything to be concerned about. They were finally forced in front of congress and admitted that there might be some connection between concussions and CTE.

- Roger Goodell and the NFL have used Tobacco industry legal type tactics with this issue.
