DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The Official NFL Draft Day 2 thread

I'll say it again, as of the 48'th other then Jenkins not one secondary player (CB, S,SS,DB) was drafted short of Wilson, and as of pick 70 only 2 others where, Johnson at 65 and Robenson at 66. Apparently this was a weak secondary class for EVERYONE and Bele knew it. He probably took Wilson because it was an area of need to such an extent that BPA was a trade off.

Yet the consensus BEFORE the draft was that CB was one of the deepest positions in the draft. Go figure.

this makes me feel slightly better knowing that apparently many GMs saw this draft as being a complete crap shoot somewhere after the middle of the second

All I can say is, I sure am glad we didn't draft Quenton Coples and Stephen Hill. Talk about Boom or Bust. Janoris Jenkins belongs in that draft class.

You should reread the posts.

In any event my point was that the initial posts on players drafted are often wrong, and I gave the 4 most obvious recent examples.
If you want to argue that there is something in my post that just isnt there, thats on you.

Okay, well, I'll base my "Patsfans.com consensus" on the majority of posts, while you take four ultra-negative ****head posters and apply that to the rest of us. Again, most of the posts were, admitted lack of knowledge all around, which is a bad sign for a 2nd round pick. Usually, a 2nd rounder is SOMEBODY'S binky...

I just stopped ignoring Andy, so I'm not going to get into it with him. I just hate that stupid freaking argument that he was trying to make. It's moronic.

If you were charged with rationalizing the wisdom of this pick what would your argument be for it?

Good on Wilson. Be interesting to see how he develops behind Flynn.

So what do you guys think about Jared Crick? He tore his Pectoral muscle but he did do the bench press at his pro day and showed that he was improving.... looks like a good pick at 90th or even earlier... Thoughts?

Whose consensus?

I think this also means McCourty is NOT moving to Safety.

Well yeah,,, that's what I was led to believe? But no ones taking them.

Your comparisions are not quite the same
McCourtney was considered a 1st round talent by many
The iinitial reaction on this board was we drafted a special teamer. It was a viral topic.

Solder was considered the 2nd best tackle by many
The initial reaction on this board was we wasted the #17 pick on a guy who wouldn't play in 2011

Ridley had very high upside (2nd round talent) who was knocked because he come out early
The initial reaction on this board was 'we used a 3rd round pick on a guy who is only a short yardage back' also viral.

The TEs both were known talents with very high upsides
Again, initial reaction belied that

Wilson is graded a 5th rounder at best with no expectations of any upside from anyone (other than BB). My guess is he would have been available in the 7th, and if not, who cares. There are dozens of safeties who are his equivalent (basically anyone who has ever played safety at some point in his life). If(and it's a big if) he makes the team, the safety play will not necessarily be better than last year.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to believe that BB is so whacked out that you know all of this as fact and he is too stupid to see it. Thats fine.
I am only pointing out that the initial reactions on this board, particularly the know it all ones such as the above examples and the one you just posted seem to have a pretty poor track record.

Either the scouts we all follow (CBSsports/NEPD etc) got this draft all wrong, are most of the 32 teams did. There's a huge disconnect going on right now.

i hope you all realize that 80% of this draft is not going to amount to anything. just look at some of the past draft classes. so just because the pats don't take the guy on Mel Kiper's Best Available List doesn't mean anything.

My take on the War Room. Tommy got too many boners from raw athleticism.

/Not sayin this kid won't be good.

Wilson also spent a year being coached by a pretty good former NFL secondary coach and that guy loves him. Maybe he's a better player than we think. I'd love to see his play chart and tape.

Jammel Fleming, Brandon Boykin, Marvin Jones, all 3 Arkansas receivers all still on the board. This draft class is wacky.

Those are all picks I would like. Throw in Chapman from Alabama. Super sleeper Hicks, Ronnel Lewis, Jeremy Ebert and it could be a nice day.

What's with all the board newbies beaking long time posters like they own the place?

Doesn't explain the senseless trade down from 62 to 90.

Wouldnt the sheer fact that his possition could be argued with the examples he gave mean we should give the kid at least this season to prove the coaches right before writing him off on draft day?

Why would it? Doesn't it make more sense to just look at who's posting and weigh their opinion accordingly?

If it's NEM talking about Patriots O.C.s, you give it no weight.
If it's AWTE or Unoriginal breaking down film of a play, you pay close attention.

This is a message board, and this is a thread devoted to news and opinions about this year's draft. Why should people have to hold off for a year?

I actually just got back from a funeral (I know a funeral on Friday night) and saw that the Jets took Hill.

My working theory is that the Jets figure that when Sanchez throws off the mark Hill would have run the wrong route and end up in the same place as the ball.

Ian owns the place, the long time posters just never leave. (And act like they own the place.)

Lets not forget, we wasted a 1st rounder on a special teamer in 2010, #17 last year on a guy who couldn't play as a rookie because he wasn't strong enough to play, used a 3rd last year on a guy who was only going to play on 3rd and 1, and wasted a 2nd in 2010 on a guy who couldn't play because he missed his Sr year with back surgery and a 4th on a TE who is too small and a pot head.

And thats just the last 2 years.
Do we really want to put any stock in the kneejerk reactions of posters on this board to draft choices?

Your best post ever.
