DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION **The Official Day 1 Patriots Draft Thread**

I wonder if the recent court activity made it easier to pick Solder? Knowing they coaches will likely be able to work with him soon is a big plus. Maybe not a big factor, but who knows.

A guy that is 6'9" probably has insanely long arms, which means he may have functional strength that doesn't show up for benching.

Solder's arms are 35.5" long. So yeah that might have affected his bench. Those long arms though really help at pushing those finesse defensive ends around the QB when they try to 'run the arc' to get to Brady.

Personally, I wanted the Pats to go defense with their first two pick, but I am not totally upset that they went this way. Solder has the potential to be a franchise OT.

Granted. It's a developmental player at a position that didn't have the current need, though, when there were players available that filled positions of need.

Again, I don't hate the pick, but I'm not going to pretend that I think it's the greatest pick ever just because Belichick made it. I'll leave that to others.

One thing seems certain, and that is that the Patriots have decided to change their approach to tackles. They've gone from smaller to behemoths.

Well, like usual, I think it's one of those picks that can only be evaluated once the rest of the picks have been revealed.

If they end up getting a front 7 guy at 28, for example, this will only look a heck of a lot better. But I think BB & Company are heeding your advice: Priority number one is protecting the franchise's most important and most valuable asset.

Solder is a solid pick at 17 for the Pats...I don't get it with half of you crazies....

I think people are just tired of seeing guys like Sanchez and McCoy running around for 20mins lol. It will be a fine pick as long as they can still grab a good pass rusher.

I like this pick. A possible franchise LT. Also, like boomer said, imagine him as an eligible receiver in the red zone, a 6'9" 290 pound TE. Very versatile. Him and SeaBass as bookend tackles for the next 10 years. I smiled after the pick, typical BB pick, everyone had us picking a pass rusher or possible Mark Ingram, and we pick a tackle. Love the pick though. Scarnecchia is a wizard, Oline teacher extraudinaire. This is gonna wind up a great pick.

This is an excellent point. He can report in as an eligible receiver on a 7 man front on goal line packages.

Phil Taylor to the Browns. Cam Jordan or Bowers could be available at 28.

this, nothing worse than watching Sanchez pick your team apart.

After watching Brady get killed in the playoffs for three straight times you'd think people here would be more receptive to the idea of getting an OT.

From the talk here, you'd think the Pats had taken a long-snapper or a punter instead of a left tackle. Since when is LT not a high-value position?

Taylor to Cleveland, things just got more interesting. If the Saints pass on Bowers he could make it to 28. Either way you would think 1 of Jordan, Heyward, Wilkerson or Bowers would be available at 28. I wouldn't move out.

Colts picking Constanza confirms the rumor they are pissed Solder went before them.

One thing the Solder pick points to:
Belichick is definitely thinking long term.
Solder does not appear ready to play.
But has some upside down the road.

yeah...go back year by year on this board

Vollmer does not appear ready to play

Mankins does not appear ready to play

Light is at least three years away from starting

and on and on and on with the whiny recriminations because the NEP won't take YOUR "monster somebody!!!!" binky....krist...

costanzo just channeled Jack Edwards "QUIET" LOL

lets not suck. lets not reach by one fcking time. Solder was avalaible at 28 for sure. Thats outrageous.

Seymour for Solder. LOL
LOL for sure, who would be happy with trading a guy in the last year of his contract knowing we cant resign him and only get our LT for the next 10 years. Geez, what was BB thinking?

If they had Solder rated higher than the best available DE/OLB, no reason to get antsy and pick the front seven guy, especially since they have another pick in the first. Let's not forget the OL is a need too.

Money says that we trade #28, hopefully for an extra second and a first next year. Cleveland, flush with all of Atlanta's picks move up to grab the Nose tackle.
