I want Obi Sidney Jones teez tabor Cunningham Badham or the top pass rusher or tight end on the board

Can't believe the guy who everybody thought was the top running back is still available.

Knowing BB a few trade downs and picks into next year it is.

Widely reported that the Browns offered number 12. Look what was given up for rookie QBs....Backup quarterbacks are not worth more to your roster than 1st round picks.

Unless Jimmy is starting next year or franchised and starts the year after, this was a mistake.
no first round was offered, no way.

why? if we win the Super Bowl and Tom is still playing like a god, why would you be so enamored with JAG? There is not anything out there yet to tell you he is the second coming of Rodgers or Young.
I mean we get like a third round comp pick for Jimmy as a free agent don't we? (Not sure what round it will be) I mean Joe Montana was a 4th round pick.

Regarding points of failure that could derail Ring 6, I see the probability of losing one or more of the 5 OL starters approaching 1 vs the probability of a Brady injury being far less. So not having one or more playoff quality subs available for inevitable OL injuries is the far bigger risk. Folks are too focused on the glamor position. Where did the Patriots struggle the most last season? Anyone else remember Brady being hammered in the playoffs? vs Atlanta? and what happened to his backup?

OL play vs playoff caliber teams and lack of strong across the line depth is the big risk for 2017 given today's roster.

Question: wouldn't an OL depth concern for this year be better addressed by signing a veteran FA?

In theory, yes which was why they had whatshisface from MN in here this past week.

I think the questions are do they like any of the FAs, What are their salary demands and does the team think the talent in the draft is better with more upside.

Reason I asked was I was thinking Mangold or the like vs Thuney.

Bears messageboards have to be melting down this morning. May be fun to check some out.

They should be melting down. Between Glennon and Trubisky they are paying as much $$$ on QBs over the next 5 years(assuming they cut Glennon after this years) as they would have if they traded for JG and gave him as Osweiler extension.

Trubisky $4/30m + ~20m 5th year option
Glennon 15m

Trubisky + Glennon = ~$65m
JG = 1m + 4/72 = ~73m

So either the Bears preferred Trubisky to JG or the Patriots really intended to never trade JG.

Oh God. Deion Sanders. Worst thing about draft night.

The worst thing is the forced hug by Fraudger. Just once I'd like to see some player stick out his hand for a proper handshake, or better yet give Fraudger an "accidental" head to the face.

I never even thought about watching and wouldn't have even if the Pats had a pick. This thread will be the first draft news for me.

Reason I asked was I was thinking Mangold or the like vs Thuney.

There was a whole discussion about Mangold coming in here but the premise was more around replacing Andrews.

I suspect Mangold- while not the All-Pro he was is still a starting-caliber player and might not want to be a reserve here.

Plus I don't know how quickly he can acclimate to playing guard of if he even can.

Personally I'd like to see them draft another Thuney-type as they seem kinda thin behind him and Shaq with only Karras as the only guy who has any real game experience there.

I suspect they'll draft a player and sign a vet. Thats my guess.

Winners: SF
#2 = two top 5 players of this Draft they loved + 3 additional mid round picks.

Losers: CLE
explained above.
+ going in FA & Draft with 100M+ cap space and #1 + #12 picks and coming away without the only thing you desperately need and matters all .. is actually quite an achievement even for CLE standards. And irresponsible to all CLE players.

Respect: CHI
going all-in for developmental QB (ignoring draftnicks and mediots) despite just investing in new starting QB and despite other roster needs . is a sign of a serious franchise that has self-confidence and respect for itself. Responsible to the past, the future and the current roster.

Best single pick value: WAS (Allen)
#1 player in my book at 17 . if shoulders don't stop him that's some man they're getting

Saddest pick: CIN (Ross)
__

Most of the picks seemed like Twilight zone. Feel a lot of 1st rounder remorse coming in the next couple of years.

AFC east with a solid Day 1. Jamal Adams is a soldier (and a leader) any team can wish for.

I have to give a nod to HOU for being MEGA-LOSERS - still - because of how much it's cost them to move out from Osweiler.

To move from Brock -> Deshaun (and this is no knock on Deshaun - he could be good!) it has cost the Texans:

2017:
25th overall
6th round (#188)

2018:
1st round
2nd round

To get: #12 and #144

I get why the Texans did it. Maybe they finally now know the full cost of their Brock-stupidity, but I felt it needed to be said how expensive it was for them.

I still can't believe how much Mitchell friggin Trubisky cost in draft capital. Goff/Wentz & now Trubisky have proven that we got lucky three years ago with Jimmy G IMO.

Granted he was my binky at the time, Garoppolo had elite college production (55 TDs senior year), arguably the best release entering the NFL, accuracy, enough arm & size, mobility and good field vision. Somehow this profile equated to a rd 2-3 projection.

Flash forward to present day and Eastern Illinois Jimmy G was a better prospect than Wentz or Trubisky. The QB desperation has gotten so out of hand.

That's probably part of the reason the team doesn't want to trade him either. Getting that caliber of a QB that late probably won't happen again. I like Mahomes but he went top 10 as a Texas Tech project!

A big factor in determining (most of the time) the quality of a QB is the level of competition he faces.

I think if you look at the 2016 Red Raider schedule and then look at the 2013 Eastern Ill schedule you will have your answer.

Too many fans look at the initial cost, in draft capital, in determining a players' value. That is why you see some fans saying Jimmy G should cost no more than a 2nd or 3rd pick.

I guess they now see Trubisky, Mahomes, and Watson, as significantly superior prospects based on what teams gave up to acquire them.
