The more I hear about CLE taking OL and WRs the more I feel like they are not taking "no" for an answer.

IIRC the details of his contract....

Before the trade they still had $9 million of the signing bonus left to hit the cap, plus $16 million in guaranteed 2017 salary. So $3 million of the signing bonus plus $16 million in salary would hit this year for a $19M cap hit PLUS another $6M in dead money.

This way they just bite a $9M salary cap hit and they're done with him.
Yes thanks for all the replies everyone. I hadn't considered the salary this year was guaranteed.

Let's assume they traded jimmy. Who's out there as a backup or would they gamble with brissett

Gamble. If Brady goes down and you dont have JAG no QB you could draft or FA you are likely to pick up would matter.

For a person who loves to argue so much you are not particularly well informed.
Didn't realize asking a question was arguing.
If you want to consider not knowing the terms of osweilers contract not particularly well informed have at it.
Otherwise no need to be a dlck

If the Browns release Ass-whiler he will have made $37 million for one season with the Texans. Is that a per year record?

that combination is painfully commonplace.

(No commentary on AJ, just an observation that the argumentative are all too often woefully uninformed as well.)

Oh hell, I just thought of something. What if Jimmy is going to get traded but is also the QB of the future for the Pats?!

1) Trade Jimmy to Cleveland for at least two #1 picks
2) Jimmy signs an extension through 2021
3) Brady wins 2 more SBs, retires at the end of 2021 season
4) Pats sign Jimmy in Free Agency in 2022

Pats get picks, Jimmy gets money, Brady gets 5 more years, Jimmy comes home.

Have you seen the Browns quotes?

Talking about how great it was to acquire a 2nd round pick, poor Brock is just like the Christmas paper on the nice gift, just thrown in the trash and irrelevant

OK, this post, coming on the heels of the "tattoo on my ass" post, is taking this thread into a really weird direction...
get your mind out of the gutter. I'm feeling crowded down here.

Seriously, Browns are gonna cause PAIN for Squealers & Ratbirdz this season if they land the JAG at QB. Book it.

This guy is currently available, but they'll have to hurry or the Jets will snare him up.

Gamble. If Brady goes down and you dont have JAG no QB you could draft or FA you are likely to pick up would matter.

If brady goes down for the season, then the season is over. If he goes down for a few games, then Brissett can hold the fort.

Barnwell had a nice breakdown on the trade, and even outlined a scenario where they could turn Brock into a commodity by converting some of his salary into a signing bonus, then eating that bonus in a trade. So they could "create" an Osweiler with a smaller contract (convert $10M to signing bonus, trade, suddenly you have a $6M Osweiler contract) in return for a draft pick.

Crazy ... or genius? Making sense of the Osweiler trade

BREAKING: Brock Osweiler retires

CLEVELAND – New Cleveland Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler has announced his retirement, ending his career at age 26 and with more than $50 million remaining on his contract.

“After careful thought and consideration in the several moments after I was informed I was traded to the Browns, I have decided I will move on with the rest of my life,” Osweiler posted in a series of tweets. “We only have so much time on this planet, and I don’t want to spend any of the years I have on the Cleveland Browns, no matter how much I am being paid. Money is not everything. Thank you to the Browns for wanting me when no one else did, but no.”

The Browns acquired Osweiler on Thursday afternoon from the Texans along with a 2nd Round pick in 2018 by simply agreeing to pay his remaining salary after a season in which he struggled mightily on the field and was benched. But now Cleveland will not have to pay any of it due to Osweiler suddenly ending his career.

“I hoped for big things for Brock here in Cleveland,” said head coach Hue Jackson. “But I understand his decision. He retires as one of the greatest Cleveland Browns quarterbacks of all-time.”
