Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

Aren't Dell and Collins both coming back off of injuries?
Yep. They also still have Noel & Hutch. It’s not as if they’re depleted. They should trade for someone like Jerry Jeudy. Those two rookies KC & Boston will (may already have) usurped him in Cleveland. Or maybe Rashod Bateman.

why would he not bring a comp pick back? I dont see the pats signing more free agents than they lose next off season.

Comp picks are not free. You don't just get them because someone leaves your team. A team must lose more qualifying free agents than it signs. Signing external free agents cancel out the picks. The Pats have done a great job fixing the starting roster. Now its time to fix depth, which is not great. You do that through the draft and FA. I would see and additional 3-4 O-line help alone being added. A Boutte FA would go toward the 2028 draft. We have no idea what that would even look like.

A 3rd would be fantastic - dreams of more than that are unrealistic.

A 3rd would be a ridiculous high pay, but if I were the Patriots that's what I would want for a division foe.

I don't think anyone will offer a 3rd, but I've been surprised before.

For comparison, two weeks ago the Texans could have had Diggs for more than 8 Million one year (they even had a positive history) and giving up nothing else.

Has the WR market changed so much since then that the Texans would have pay a third for Boutte.

They don't have to offer anything, and we don't have to trade him.
How does trading him to a divisional foe who has high aspirations for less than a 3rd make any sense?
I don't want to trade him at all.
Texans can have him next year for no picks when he's a FA.

No. Please don't trade boutte. They'd get back a 5th rounder. **** that. Hard.

Why limit the packages that josh can dial up? See this dumbassery happen every year. Boutte and drake have chemistry and hes one of the few WRS the pats actually draft that did well, going back 40 years.

We got a pick for a guy we were going to cut and looked terrible in Caedan Wallace.

Boutte has value, and teams competing for him drives up his price.

I’m thinking we can get a 3rd.
Wallace didn’t need to be paid, doesn’t expect a Doubs type deal. They should get something for Boutte, just less than some here think.

You realize that they only dress 48 and there's 53 players on the roster.

Do the players who sit help with special teams?

Week one you know who you dressing from cutdown date.

Who said they would get a 2?

I used Sanu as an example of how much teams can overpay.

And what good prospects do you think they would have to cut? One of the 3rd TE's? The third QB???

I'd rather take my chances this year with Boutte.
If you’re not going to pay or play him, trade him.

If you’re not going to pay or play him, trade him.

I don't mean sit him.

They sit the developmental players.

There will be just one less developmental player sitting because Boutte is dressed.

I don't get the sense that Boutte would be a team cancer a-hole if we kept him. At the end of the day pretty much every on goaline/short yardage or kneel down play is gonna have 2 WRs, 1 TE and 1 RB on the field with the last spot being split between a third WR, a 2nd TE and a FB. I consider all 3 of those spots - 3rd WR, 2nd TE, FB to be "starters" on offense. Boutte is going to play and he's going to play a lot this year as things stand.

I do believe they could adequately fill that 3rd WR role with other guys, but unless someone blows you away there's no need to make the move. I get that draft picks are crap shoots but if someone offered a third I'd say that's good enough value to make a deal. But for a day 3 pick? I'd just keep the good player.

Among the target: Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman and New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte with no current momentum toward a deal.

We want our cake and eat it too.

People are excited because he's a home-grown talent and we've been bad at developing WRs for so long. Of course we want to keep him.

Yet as you point out, it's clear he doesn't have a long term role here. The team looked at the WR situation and grabbed both Doubs and Brown this off-season and didn't offer a market-rate WR1 or WR2 extension to Boutte. This pretty much telegraphs how the front office values him, despite what the fan base thinks.

So, we argue back and forth about if he's worth keeping around for injury insurance vs getting something for him. No one knows what injuries may arise, and no one knows what the other teams are offering for him. We do know we only have 53 slots on the roster. All the other teams know that too so almost certainly aren't going to offer a thing for him till after cut-down day.
Agreed. Do remember that during the postseason Boutte said during his presser he wanted to remain in NE his entire career. The offseason comes and he reportedly requested a trade. Do to the Caserio connection I can see him going to Houston..

So you think that a 2027 4th is less value than a possible 2028 comp pick?
The max we could get as a compensatory pick would be 3rd round if he gets a big contract and is a big contributor, makes the Pro-Bowl etc (the league isn't fully clear on their formula) so yes it is potentially higher but probably unlikely we'd see more than 4th or 5th. I'd rather keep him this season if that's all we can muster.

Yeah they are definitely shopping him (somewhat like Bourne last year but at half the salary) but I expect it has to be the right price to the right team (non-AFC ideally) for it to happen.
The Seahawks lost a WR today - Bobo. Not sure how long.
If it's only a 5th or a 4th I say keep him -
Id take a 4th.
Doubs is technically our WR2 but he can play all over the field
Yup, you can see whats going on in camp.

The focus has been on AJB and Doubs.
so I can see Brown, Boutte and Doubs out on the field at the same time making things tough for Ds. If it's a trade for a decent LB I'd do that straight up.
Id rather have a pick, but the goal is to move a disgruntled player who has the potential to be a distraction off the team. I foresee trouble if Boutte stays and Doubs sees more targets.

Boutte would be a 1-year rental for a team - they would likely not extend him immediately. That absolutely negatively impacts his trade value. But he's also still on a cheap contract, so that increases his trade value some. He has requested a trade, and Patriots likely want to do right by him. A 3rd would be fantastic - dreams of more than that are unrealistic.
Perhaps, his new team would agree to extend mid season assuming conditions are met.

Preferably Boutte's new team would use him as WR2. This way Boutte has an opportunity to produce and the team reaps the reward from his success.

Don't forget that any team who acquires Boutte would be the one to get a comp pick for him if he leaves as well.
