Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

This is Rappaport throwing at the wall.

The Texans still have Dell, Collins, Jaylin Noel, and Xavier Hutchinson at WR. They aren't going to pay a premium for Boutte for him to be 3rd or 4th on their depth chart.
Aren't Dell and Collins both coming back off of injuries?

The reason Doubs got paid and Boutte is still waiting for the “big bucks” boils down to one word *contribution*…

In the past 3 years Doubs has 155 receptions and 18 TD’s vs. Boutte who has 78 receptions and 9 TD’s. So Doubs had literally contributed twice the number of receptions/TD’s as Boutte over the same period.

Completely different situations with ZERO context.
If the rumors are correct then any team in the league could have handed over a 5th round pick for our former 6th rounder and the soap opera would have been over. Unfortunately no team was willing to pony up so here we are.

As Eddie Murphy once said, “bidness is bidness” and since the NFL is most definitely a “bidness”, other teams won’t give up value for Boutte, and the Pats won’t give him away. So either he gets traded when some team loses a WR or he remains with the Pats because he is one of their best 6 receivers.

Either way, if/when Boutte gets his opportunity, if he wants to “get paid”, he’d best take care of “bidness”…..
Clearly the rumors aren't correct. Otherwise, Boutte wouldn't still be here.

Collins is showing no signs of rust from his injury. They are treating Dell with kids gloves, but he's still their #2 receiver.

Noel and Hutchinson are highly though of by the Texans. Noel is in his 2nd year. Hutchinson his fourth.

Aren't Dell and Collins both coming back off of injuries?
Yup

Dell cant stay on the field and neither Collins or Dell has ever made it through a full 17 game season.

We got a pick for a guy we were going to cut and looked terrible in Caedan Wallace.

Boutte has value, and teams competing for him drives up his price.

I’m thinking we can get a 3rd.
Obviously the Pats do not want to be motivated sellers.

This deal may come down to the 11th hour. It bears watching to see who else goes down through these preseason games.

Not many are willing to consider we can't pay Boutte his next contract if we have Brown and Doubs and then extend Gonzo and Drake. He will walk after this year and I doubt he will bring a comp pick. When the offers peak, we have to take what we can get for him.
why would he not bring a comp pick back? I dont see the pats signing more free agents than they lose next off season.

The Pats official website has reference to - rumors of a Boutte trade.

Thats basically from the horses mouth.
Yeah they are definitely shopping him (somewhat like Bourne last year but at half the salary) but I expect it has to be the right price to the right team (non-AFC ideally) for it to happen.

If it's only a 5th or a 4th I say keep him - Doubs is technically our WR2 but he can play all over the field so I can see Brown, Boutte and Doubs out on the field at the same time making things tough for Ds. If it's a trade for a decent LB I'd do that straight up.

You have to field a complete team in week
one. You need players to play special teams.

You realize that they only dress 48 and there's 53 players on the roster.

Do the players who sit help with special teams?

Week one you know who you dressing from cutdown date.

No amount of time is going to convince a team to give up a 2nd for Boutte and they shouldn’t cut good prospects based on hope.

Who said they would get a 2?

I used Sanu as an example of how much teams can overpay.

And what good prospects do you think they would have to cut? One of the 3rd TE's? The third QB???

I'd rather take my chances this year with Boutte.

I dont see Boutte happy here without more money.

He already knows what Doubs received so his asking price likely starts there. I see -

WR1 AJB
WR2 Doubs
WR3 Hollins until Douglas or Williams takes it away.

If a team believed Boutte would save their season, why in the world would we get rid of a guy that good?

I want to keep 7 WRs and Boutte would be one of them.

But:
Douglas is running with the one's consistently.
Hollins and Williams are staying.
And I want to keep developing another young WR beyond Willams.

You disagree with some of this, maybe all, but there is evidence that Boutte is likely on the trading block. I'm not going to reopen that.

We'll just have to see.

I really don’t want the Pats to trade Boutte, he’s a good receiver who has good chemistry with Maye.

There is no reason to believe that we would have accepted a 5th early in camp. We wanted a better pick and/or to keep Boutte in case one of the other WR's wasn't working out. There are even folks who think it reasonable to have an Offense with SIX active WR's and one more inactive.

That being said, the offers should come as there are injuries on other teams. If not, we can keep Boutte on the 53, perhaps trading him before the trade deadline.

So you think that a 2027 4th is less value than a possible 2028 comp pick?

Did you know that paying Maye and Gonzo won't be with your fantasy football cash or Monopoly money? We are all in on Brown who wil want an adjustment if he has a good year. Doubs just signed a 4-year, $68 million base contract. We are not spending the money on Boutte. He will price out. Pop is up too after 2026. He is the target if he finally gets the slot role this year. If not, he walks and Chism has it. They are not investing more $$$ into WR.

Yeah, sign Jones. We don’t give up Boutte that easy here in NE…

2027: Brown, Doubs, Hollins, Williams

There is no reason to believe that Chism will be on the 2027 53-man roster.

Aaron Wilson is a Texans journo.

I agree with Brown, Doubs, Williams. Not sure bout Hollins. I am not a huge Chism fan. I just think Josh is. He is grooming him for when Pop leaves. We will draft more WRs too.

Boutte would be a 1-year rental for a team - they would likely not extend him immediately. That absolutely negatively impacts his trade value. But he's also still on a cheap contract, so that increases his trade value some. He has requested a trade, and Patriots likely want to do right by him. A 3rd would be fantastic - dreams of more than that are unrealistic.
