Does Marcus Jones play 10 defensive snaps a game or does he play significantly more than that?
Reiss posts those numbers weekly.

Jones shouldn’t be on offense, defense and special teams. He’s only 190 and will miss 20 games in 3 years.

Edit: my bad…I think it may be 21 games in 3 years.

I really think this has more to do with the way he plays than his slight stature. He really is very explosive and runs with disregard in the punting game, and on offense.

Last year's injury was similar to Gonzalez's, torn pec.
Hunter is very explosive as well.

Again, I agree with this conceptually, but it also doesn't make a ton of sense if we end up with more KJ Osbournes, which are decent players on value deals who don't actually do anything to help us win.

That said, we've also seen that free agency rarely helps a team win. Generally they have to get the best players through the draft.

I think that Wolf invested in depth in free agency last market, not starters. He used most of the $$ on resigning their young free agents or free agents to beSo I think this free agency can be more about getting starters.

Don’t overpay for “good.”

I don’t look at the $$$ that way. I look at the cap in terms of unit spending and internal salary cap. You can’t spend 70 million a season on 2 WR’s, you can afford a 1 and a 2, which is closer to 50 million per. So if you sign Higgins you can’t sign a #1. for the next 4-5 years because he’s getting the #1$$$.

I still think the best case scenario is to get the #2 pick, trade it for a 1st next year and a 2nd this year. Use the pick #5-6 on BPA, which would be Graham, Carter, MacMillan on most boards ( not mine), then trade back into the first with the surplus pick for the OT.

Free agency is going to really change how we look at the draft. How their needs are addressed there will shape draft strategy, so the better the needs are addressed prior to the draft the more flexibility they will have.
Right, that’s why I was saying pay $32 for Tee and a rookie deal for Travis Hunter. Again, it doesn’t matter who is the 1 or 2 as you’re paying less than $50 for the unit.

I think the trade cost will be too much for Deebo and we can get Hunter with the pick we have now (assuming we lose to the Bills).

But I agree that I hope Wolf is spending more on real talent this year than he did last year, but I think he might be too much in that Belichick “value” free agent market.

Yeah that is my point, Jones is playing a lot of defense plus some offensive and special teams snaps. The defensive and ST snaps are a lot harder on the body than running WR routes would be. If you have Hunter just running routes, no special teams, and then you toss in 10 snaps a game on defense he should be fine. Jones is taking 4x that or more combined in defensive+ST snaps.

Oh I know brother.. but we would have to be smart how we use him.. I won't mind him spotting on defense like say when needed.. but we need him more at WR...
In a weird way I think the smartest thing to do is let him play both ways and ride this gimmick back to relevance even if it cost us a second contract because he wears down quickly.

Plus I think if he only plays one spot that he'd be a CB so if WR is what we want then you go with Tet.

Very interesting.. I'm starting to lean more on trying to get at least 2 WRs in FA 1 by trade and 1 by signing... obviously we are taking Hunter unless we get an offer that we can't pass up. We need the type of talent at WR where Boutte gets spot duty..

Belichick was about value because he was required to pinch pennies.
He never preferred to get an aging vet for 1 year 5 mill and try to squeeze something out of him over a good player that costs 4 years 25 mill and the same cap hit.
He didn’t prefer to grab failed 1st round picks and hope he could rehab them over solid proven more expensive players.
He had no choice, he was under budget constraints.

We can always just hold on to our “cash to burn ” , win the “Most Cap Space Available” 2 straight years, and wait till 2026 to sign a better/cheaper receiver. After all our #6 receiver has the “best hands in the league”!

One game isn't going to change his value. If anything, his value is down this year because it has been a season marred with injuries that seriously hurt his production.

Teams didn't look at Higgins' nearly five years of production and say he isn't worth the money and then watch yesterday's game and say "We gotta have the guy no matter the cost".

Buyer beware.

Chase is unstoppable and gets alot of attention. That makes Higgins job much easier.

There is no Chase like receiver in NE.

Sure, but he had a very good rookie season as the #1 WR before Chase entered the NFL. And he was also very productive in 2022 the four games when Chase was injured including 114 and 148 yard games.

Higgins isn't a top tier #1 WR, but he can be a top 10 on his own. He is good enough to be it and has shown it in his limited time as a #1 in Cincy.

I'd say Higgins is 1b on a team.. the guy just has a knack for making ridiculous catches and his catch radius is nuts! like the play on the left sideline last night. Higgins has moss like abilities at the point of catch. He has moss same build and frame . Higgins also isn't afraid to go across the middle. He would instantly improve this offense leaps and bounds. We need at least 2 starting WRs on the outside.

I did

PAY him. I can’t for the life of me understand the hand wringing with RKs money. The cap can be gotten around so stop crying about spending someone else’s money.

Edit: this wasn’t directed at anyone, just a general statement

Agreed.. they will offer him a nice contract.. hopefully he does come here.. then you stay aggressive by swinging a trade for DK Metcalf or DJ Reed. Drafting hunter... now that is how you revamp your WR room in 1 off season.

But you don't scout him. Anyone who is watching the film on the guy has seen him perform like this before (well, not three TDs, but similar production).

Nothing to do with scouting him I've known what he is for years now too. Look at our roster we need him. I would say the same thing about LT and LG. Price be damned if we don't get real starters in these spots we failed.

But this should have been your position before yesterday. Yesterday, shouldn't have changed anything.
