Tee Higgins $$

But this should have been your position before yesterday. Yesterday, shouldn't have changed anything.
True

I wanted him for sure before yesterday.

Yesterday was a combination of getting curb stomped, followed by watching him go off, and with the off-season now quickly approaching I'm now willing to overpay by pretty much any margin. So not a huge change and certainly knee jerk lol.

I think that Wolf invested in depth in free agency last market, not starters. He used most of the $$ on resigning their young free agents or free agents to beSo I think this free agency can be more about getting starters.
Gibson, Hopper, Takitaki and ???

I’m not saying they all worked out, I’m saying that he wasn’t paying for starters he was resigning starters and trying to add depth. I think there will be more opportunity to get quality starters in this free agency.

Right, that’s why I was saying pay $32 for Tee and a rookie deal for Travis Hunter. Again, it doesn’t matter who is the 1 or 2 as you’re paying less than $50 for the unit.

I think the trade cost will be too much for Deebo and we can get Hunter with the pick we have now (assuming we lose to the Bills).

But I agree that I hope Wolf is spending more on real talent this year than he did last year, but I think he might be too much in that Belichick “value” free agent market.

If he follows that path I will be as critical of him as anyone.

I don’t think Deebo will cost more than a 4th, and they could throw Bourne into the deal. I don’t want Higgins for 1 money. He’s not a 1.

PAY him. I can’t for the life of me understand the hand wringing with RKs money. The cap can be gotten around so stop crying about spending someone else’s money.

Edit: this wasn’t directed at anyone, just a general statement

It’s not “ hand wringing with RK’smoney, “ I don’t give a **** about that. It’s overpaying players out of desperation, which is the worst way to build a long term contender.

And it’s not just WR. You can only have so many 30 million players on a roster, and if you waste that on a tier 2 player then you don’t have it to spend on a true star player. E.g. let’s just say Dallas in unable to sign Micah Parsons, I would rather have the ability to say “ we can make that happen” and sign a true superstar player to superstar money, than to sign a tier 2 player and say, “ can’t do it, we already blew it on Tee Higgins.”

I would sign Chase for that money, or Parsons, or Patrick Surtain II, but not Higgins. The calls for Higgins are driven by desperation, and good GM’s don’t fall prey to that impulse.

Sure, but he had a very good rookie season as the #1 WR before Chase entered the NFL. And he was also very productive in 2022 the four games when Chase was injured including 114 and 148 yard games.

Higgins isn't a top tier #1 WR, but he can be a top 10 on his own. He is good enough to be it and has shown it in his limited time as a #1 in Cincy.

He’s never had more than 74 receptions in a season. That’s a decent number 2, but not close to number 1 numbers.

Can we get someone other than AVP to run it?? The Krafts have Publicly shown their Displeasure with Him.

I’m fine with getting rid of this coaching staff, my only concern is with those who keep calling for Daboll or MacDaniels, which means a return to EP. And I was really glad to see that dinosaur leave town with Belichick. I f*cking hate that offense.

Not paying players and having bad ones is the worst way to build a long term contender. In our case it includes not spending all the money allotted to us. Getting good players at a high price is a much better way.

This.
I mean, I get being frugal and spending smartly and all that - but more importantly, you need players who can play, and in free agency, you pay a premium for that.

The Patriots are in the position of having more than enough money to spend, especially since Maye will be on his rookie deal for 4 more years.

The only point in being frugal with a contract is because there is a cap and signing one guy prevents you from signing another guy.
Our reason has been the owner doesn’t want spend the money on any player, he would rather have worse players and more money.

It’s my unfounded belief that McDaniels will incorporate some McVay / Shanahan concepts into his playbook and somehow make it work with EP. EP really only works well if you have a very cerebral QB and Maye has that skill.

I would be shocked if McDaniels ever coached for the Patriots again. Especially since he's still getting paid by the Raiders.

My bet is that Higgins is a Bengal at the start of next season

That ain't going to happen. They aren't going to franchise him (unless they franchise and trade him) and someone is going to pay him good #1 WR money. No way the Bengals match that. Not with Chase looking for a record breaking contract.

Isn't that a Kraft special to hire guys getting paid elsewhere

Your Tee Higgins Jersey will be on me Ivan.
If he ends up here I’ll root for him, but I will seriously question Wolf’s judgement if he gives Higgins 30 million +.

Kraft loves him. If he fires Mayo I wouldn’t be surprised if MacDaniels is next. It would be a huge mistake, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Didn’t they franchise him this year? If so his franchise price tag skyrockets this year.

I believe 2025 ($10 M) is the last year of the guaranteed portion of the contract. Other than that I don’t see any reason why he or Kraft would not want a reunion.
