State of the Board Discussion [Moved to Here]

I've also said this multiple times, it's still fine to root for and keep an eye on Brady while still being a fan of this team. I fall into that category. The guy brought us 20+ years of great football and I certainly wish him well and I'll root for him if he's in the mix in January and we're not. At the same time, head-to-head, I hope we beat them by 40+, but it doesn't need to be as black and white as some people make it out to be. You can still be a Patriots fan and hope Brady does well. It doesn't necessarily need to be one or the other.

But in reality it is that black and white with many members of this board. They have not only become Buc fans but they consistent and ardently trash everything about the Patriots.
I don’t know the answer, but I think it’s pretty clear that the dialogue dominating this site diminishes the experience of being a Patriot fan, or at least it does for me.
The tone of this season, if all you knew about the Patriots was what you read on this board is exactly how doomed is this team if misfits being led by the fraudulent idiot who rode Brady’s coattails and his incompetent staff and horrible players.

There are a couple who do, but again, I'm not going to make people pick between still rooting for him and also rooting for this team. That's completely counterproductive and I don't really see the point behind it.

At the same time, you can't spend all day in the Bucs forum rooting for Brady and then pop in here and constantly trash the team, either. Since that's also fairly pointless and makes the rest of us miserable. I know that's been happening, so, to your point, I'm publicly saying now that I'd prefer if that doesn't continue.

But there is also nothing wrong with rooting for Brady and not the Pats. Or rooting for the Pats and not Brady. But if you hate the Pats and post in the main forum or hate Brady and post in the Tompa forum you are just a troll.

Pointing out a valid alternative perspective in opposition to your homerism is JR high in your mind. Think about that for a while.
Is it really though Deus? You are a man obsessed by a professional football player who doesn't even know you are alive. You will carry your crush on him to your deathbed and you spend inordinate amounts of time on a football board dedicated to a team he used to play for. You are filled with agnst that any success by this team without him will somehow tarnish Tom's reputation, so you scrap tooth and nail hoping against hope that the Patriots will fail. It is sad man, very sad. Go to a real Tampa forum where you can add your football acumen to help them through the day.

Best Advice:
Shut down the forum and provide a link to an accredited psychologist who specializes in separation anxiety.
Locate a specialist who works with groups so these patients can comfort each other during the night terror phase of their treatment.

Like I said I’m not sure there is a solution.
We just have a community that has evolved into one of extreme negativity.
That’s not your fault. Those types seem to attract each other and revel in commiserating
For my part, as the season is about to start, I’m probably going to stay away because the negativity diminishes my enjoyment of the team and the season. A slow start will make it worse, success will
Just turn it into arguments that it’s fake.

You can root for Brady and not the Pats - but to come in here and only trash them is fairly pointless since 99% of the people in here want the team to do well. And to go into the other forum just to trash Tom when 99% of the people in there are rooting for him is also pretty pointless. So I would say in both cases, that wouldn't be something we'd be looking for.

At the same time, am I looking forward to him eventually retiring? Yes, because it would finally make discussions like these moot

Obviously, his departure split the fan base and that extends far beyond here based on everything we've seen. You're right, there hasn't been a good answer as obviously, things are going to go however the team does. Fortunately, at least Mac is here and it's a decent enough roster where they should potentially be competitive. If things do go off the rails, and the 2000 season was obviously a long time ago, I can only imagine how things might go. But it's not even September yet - I'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Yes

You are a man obsessed by a professional football player who doesn't even know you are alive.

You don't understand the definition of obsessed, apparently. And talk of obsession is funny, coming from someone who's been posting on this team message board since 2006 (welcome to the club).

You will carry your crush on him to your deathbed and you spend inordinate amounts of time on a football board dedicated to a team he used to play for. And here you make my point about you and people like you. Thanks!

I love when this place gets hyper-Meta! I come here for conversations about conversations about posters about posters about conversations, after all. It's such a relief to see this all aired out publicly including by mods(!) and have such little football talk!

I'm lovin' it. So glad I came back!!!

You are a destination poster. You are one of those who makes this place worth coming to. Never change that!

It's sort of like the old Howard Stern Show. All the dirty laundry was aired out in public, often uncomfortably.

Makes this place even more entertaining. I disagree about the lack of football talk. Still plenty of that, thankfully.

In the NFL, you perform on game day like you practice during the week. Here, we've learned to practice during the week like we perform in the game day thread.

This is my opinion on that and perhaps I am wrong but I think many fans share this.

This is a PATRIOTS FANS message board. The season is about to start. Patriot fans as a while should be excited for the start of a new season. As a fan base we have been given more success than we have any right to expect. I take pride in the organization that delivered that, and I can’t understand why fans of the team would spew literal hate toward it.
My view is that this board should be a place where fans communicate about rooting for the team, not a place where people come to tear it down. There used to be pride on this board in the team. Opposing fans would come here, trash the patriots and get abused. Now it’s coming from within. Many fans in this board sound like the Jet dans who would come here early in the dynasty trashing the patriots. Opposing fans figured out they had no fight to win trashing the team that stomped them for decades, but now spoiled Patriot fans have taken their place.

Why respond? I think it’s as RW says, you take pride in something you care about, and don’t like people trashing it. I don’t understand how to be a fan that dislikes the team they root for.
That place would die a very swift death.

This board does have a Melrose Place feel to it sometimes.

No doubt. But how many boards have you visited that are stale and lifeless? Patsfans has life, for better or worse.

This would not be a better place if some of the characters who get a lot of complaints disappeared.
