State of the Board Discussion [Moved to Here]

No doubt. But how many boards have you visited that are stale and lifeless? Patsfans has life, for better or worse.

This would not be a better place if some of the characters who get a lot of complaints disappeared.
Yeah, people like @Ring 6 are basically romanticizing a version of the board that never existed (look how long the people they’re referring to have been here, for example) while wishing for an Alcoholics Anonymous version of PatsFans.

Post 1: “Isn’t this team great?”

Post 2: “Sure is!”

Post 3 (quoting post 2): “Right on, brother!”

Post 4: “Go Pats!”

End of thread.

A tip for anyone who feels harrassed:

Turn up the heat to 11, make them leave the board and never come back

That’s not at all what I am talking about.

I disagree.
You can disagree all you want, but a board like what you describe doesn’t last. The best thing about these places is a difference of opinion, and being able to express it and defend it.

It isn’t? If that’s the case, then this excerpt was horribly worded…

My view is that this board should be a place where fans communicate about rooting for the team, not a place where people come to tear it down.

I’m not referring to not having opinions. The opinions aren’t the issue. It’s the motivation. Half of the posting on this board is anti patriot either covertly or openly rooting against players or the team.
I mean come on look at the posts

Forgot to add: Is there still doubt in anyone's mind that Zappy would've gone unclaimed?
I don't think so. He wasn't terrible and there are far too many QB-needy teams out there who probably would have looked at his positive moments and taken a shot at him. That would have been too big of a gamble considering we'd only have Hoyer and no developmental player behind Jones. I agree with you, I'd prefer him on the practice squad, but I do question if he would have cleared waivers. Although I said the same thing about Kevin Harris ... so that goes to show you what I know

Specifically which ones? And make sure to highlight posts only from posters who weren’t posting during that “golden age” in which you were referring to.

I agree - the whole point of a discussion board is to also have debates and conversations. Everyone isn't going to agree 100% of the time but you also can't have a place full of people who all think exactly the same way. Then we end up just rehashing the same discussions because there's little to debate/disagree/discuss since there are no differing opinions.

I agree with you on the one-liners that some do post, which can be frustrating. But there are quite a few who bring up valid concerns and thoughts many of us are also thinking. Again, no coach/player is perfect and while Belichick's resume is obviously solid, it's still OK to question and wonder about various things, especially as he tries to rebuild the roster and turn the club back into a Super Bowl contender. At the same time, are there people rooting for the club to fail so they can be right about some of their opinions? Of course. But it's been 20+ years...that's not exactly a new development

In the meantime, I agree with a few others in this thread, let's shift this and get it back to the original topic.

I never referred to a Golden Age.

If you think this board isn’t overwhelmed with negativity ok, that’s not what I see.
I’m probably going to stop coming here because the negativity diminishes my experience as a fan of the team.
So I don’t have any interest in seeking out examples of it to debate you.

I think there is another reason.

I agree there is a large faction that comes off as wanting/rooting for the team to lose/do poorly and then take satisfaction saying they were right. It's like they've completely forgotten what the world was like in 2000 and 2001.

This group is has become salty and bitter because they were accustomed and enjoyed a lifestyle of fandom that is beyond rare and it's now gone forever. It's like an entitled, bratty kid living on their own now working 12 hr days and living in a 500sq/ft apartment in Abington when it was cush living with mom and dad.

Now that era is gone they HATE and are envious to see others just be fans which includes being optimistic, enjoying the process of getting better and cheering for the team loyally.

Quite frankly, I feel sorry for them.

I really don't think this is what the "homers" have in mind. I really don't think there's a "homer" problem at all outside of BB8 lol. I'll point to the first 4 game prediction thread for support. Something like 83% of the voters (myself included) think the team will start out 2-2 or worse. This is not a board full of people who think the team is in perfect shape and will be right back to the super bowl. Most here are hoping we get a wildcard spot in the playoffs. We're all perfectly fine discussing issues and weak spots of the team. We just have a certain level of optimism because, well, we're fans.

I think most of those people were the same people who boasted about the success of the team as if it gave them identity. “Fan of a champion”
I think 2 words you said really capture what I see; bitterness and hate.

I think that’s what most peoples’ problems are, in reality. Imagine living with roommates 12 months out of the year. You’re going to bicker. Taking the entire offseason off, for me, was amazing. Highly recommended. I don’t see a different board than any time throughout the board’s history. Some have always been more positive and some have always been more negative. Outside of that, I’m not sure how you could judge the motivations of someone you’ve never met.

When I came back before the preseason, the board was the same angry place as it was before I left. Time off helps put things in perspective - especially if you travel or take up other hobbies in the meantime.

Oh well. I’m done with this stupid ****ing argument. I’d rather just talk football. I’ll let you have the last word if you wish.
