In my situation, they were trying to use epidural shots to hold off on the surgery, but they just weren’t holding me long enough. They did seem to help for a month or so at a time, though. When I first herniated the disk in my lower back, the fluid from the inside of the disk was leaking and pressing on my sciatic nerve so badly that I couldn’t stand up for more than about 45-60 seconds at a time. After the surgery, I’m standing and walking again like I was prior to the injury, but the sciatica was only reduced by about 50%, so it’s still constant pain and numbness; but at least it’s more tolerable, now. I’m hoping to build up some strength and endurance, and more importantly—just get things moving a bit more.
