Gronk is a free agent? Did I miss something?

Gronk is considering retirement. Seeing all the contracts for Te's may convince him that another year at his pay just isn't worth it.

well then coaches are going to have to adjust

unless you know of an untapped market of NFL ready young people that aren't Millennials

Yup. It’s a different world. The kids your dealing with now are different then the ones 10-20 yrs ago, but, I don’t really think what’s going on here is about millennials.

Brady let it be known in Tom vs Time that the last 2 years have been tough and he wants to be appreciated and have fun. Brady isn’t a millennial. There’s something going on in Foxboro between Bill and some of the teams biggest players. Kraft himself admitted there is tension.

With Brady and Gronk we are talking about the 2 best ever at their positions and 2 guys who are consummate professionals. These guys have never been a problem so for this stuff to come out from them means there’s issues that need addressing between the players and Bill. I’m hopeful Tom/Bill/Kraft sit down and work this out.

And what does that have to do with Amendola?

I think players today respond better to the Doug Pedersons of the NFL. Perderson is viewed by the eagles as just one of the guys from what I understand. I’m sure he’s tough but he’s also fun to hang around with. I sincerely doubt anyone wants to have dinner with Belichick after practice or a game (other than Linda).

B.B. is like will Ferrell’s dad on kicking and screaming.

Belichick has had the Patriots in 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls, won 2, and has the best record in football over not only that stretch, but any period of time over the last 18 years. He is probably a real prick to work for but the players respond just fine to him. It was only 2 years ago when Amendola talked Long into coming to NE because he wanted Long to to experience what it was like to play for the Patriots.

In the ESPN article there were a few things it noted about the Brady/Belichick relationship. One is obviously Guerrero which needs to be solved. The other one is bigger. After 17 years Brady feels he doesn’t need the constant grilling from Bill.

I think there’s a point to it. Say you’re a sales leader in your industry. You’ve been at the top of the sales charts for years and in your weekly team meeting your manager is telling you how sh*tty a job your doing. After a while you start to resent them and just wish they’d leave you alone to do your job. Probably how Brady and Gronk are feeling.

Hopefully there's a middle ground that can be found for Bill and some of the veterans.

Like I said, you can't argue with the results. But I think those guys are very much the exception to what's becoming normal among NFL players.

Depends on the player and personality type, IMO. In general, I think broad, sweeping declarations about how players don't respond ideally to Belichick is premature at best. The whole Patriots philosophy has never been a great fit for everyone and it doesn't need to be. The whole hyper-accountability culture that's practiced in Foxboro has always rubbed the majority of players the wrong way, and that's really fine. Better to limit your talent pool in order to build a culture that works than slack on culture to appeal to free agents.

The Pats' culture has always not worked for a lot of guys, but worked for enough to build a competitive team around, and even then it wears on some guys over time. Nothing's really changed, IMO, we see this pretty much every year.

If Brady's gotten to the point where he's sick of it, that is a change, and an important one.

That’s on Brady. I get that Belichick would grind and wear on anyone, especially someone who has achieved so much, but winning has always been the only thing that matters in the end, and no one should understand better than Brady the amount of tedious grinding work that goes into winning championships. They can grouse about having fun but they would never find losing fun, and would never choose having fun over having success.

I think Belichick pissed many players on this team off this year, but I’m not sure why that would be anything new?

I’m wondering if the change involves the top level leaders having issues now, where in the past they would have been helping to push Belichick’s message?

Brady and Gronk are obviously the two biggest leaders on the team. A guy like McCourty seemed to be a bit confused over the decision to bench Butler, which could be yet another example. Just thinking out loud.

It definitely sounds like it.

I’m sure BB is just thrilled with Gronk for his constant whining for more $

I saw that.

It is plain as day to me Gronk is so frustrated with state-controlled environment here.

I agree. The Patriot Way seems to have lost it's way.

Losing gronk to retirement would just be the icing on the cake for this offseason. He's not helping us by taking this long to make an announcement.

Brady retiring after they dealt Jimmy G might make it all worse. Gronk isn't gonna have an announcement. If he's pissed off, he's just gonna let them twist in the wind. He's a 28 year old guy with money in the bank. He gives no effs.

No offense to millenials, but they are sensitive. They would not respond well to Parcells, Lombardi and Coughlin types.

I can only imagine the amount of mental focus it would take to be on this team long term.

I am sure Brady looks at Bill and thinks "you know, and I am TFB, why don't you ease up on me. I'm the best there's ever been."

I've been in sales for 30 years. Sooner or later, we get sick of "you guys suck". I think you're dead on the money. Enough is enough.

Reading too much into it, imo.

Gronk probably wants more money, more guarantee, at this point. Don't blame him. And there's probably some tension, sure. They lost the SB.

He's playing...for the Pats unless they trade him. The rest is posturing and it's nothing new. Vinatieri left pissed off. McGinnest left pissed off. Seymour left pissed off. Such is like in the NFL.

Time to trade him, simple fix.. Tired of the circus.. we can win without him, been proven. Go play for the Bucs and see how much fun you have.
