I got home at 1:30 this morning from some work. My mom was still awake. We talked for a few minutes and she asked me what month it is. (she has dementia. Her neurosurgeon classified the memory loss as immediate) I told her it was January. hehe She said:
"It is? What's it like out?"
"It's snowing. there's like 6" on the ground."
"Really? I didn't know that."
"Oh yeah, but we can still go visit dad tomorrow." (dad died 3 years ago)
"We can?? Ummm...where does he live?"
"Right down the street. He has Beatrice too." (that's her cat that died about 10 years ago)
"Oh My God! Beatrice? How did he get her?"
"You gave her to him. Don't you remember?"
"No I don't. Oh well, this will be nice."
"What did you have for supper?"
"Ummm, I don't remember."
"I'll heat up some spaghetti for you."
"I'm really not hungry."
I heated up a big plate of spaghetti and gave it to her. She said:
"I can't eat all that!"
"Well if you don't, you can't see Dad and Beatrice tomorrow." (I do this crap to her all of the time. She just forgets in a few minutes anyway)
A tear rolled down her cheek and I couldn't take it anymore so I blurted out, "April Fools!!"
She said, (between sobs), "I thought it was January?"
Oh, btw...APRIL FOOLS!!! (did I get ya?)
