Peppers confirms release was scheme related:

A “tweener” is only really worth it, IMO, if they truly are big enough to be a small linebacker but also fast enough to play free safety. That type of player is rare though. What we’ve ended up seeing mostly are guys who are a little too small to be an LB and also a little too slow to be a good safety.

I understand why Bill chased after it, because getting a guy who can be both really lets you go wild with defensive schemes, but he never truly found it.
Yup. In baseball you chase after a guy who can be a gold glove center fielder and hit like a left fielder; that’s where you get Mike Trout, Ken Griffey Jr, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, etc. But for the few of those you get, you usually wind up with a guy that hits like a center fielder and fields like a left fielder, and therefore isn’t quite good enough of a player to be worth playing time.

You aim to get Rob Gronkowski or Mark Bavaro. You usually get a guy who’s not good enough of a blocker to be a tackle, and not a good enough receiver to be a wideout. You get Michael Hoomanawanui.

The hybrids work — and work big time — when they can do both. But it’s a lot tougher when most hybrids are just tweeners who aren’t quite good enough at any of the individual role requirements.

Vrabel chose to cut Peppers rather Dugger, Mapu or Pettus.

I'm very fine with that.

It does speak volumes that no one would give us a 7th and that no one jumped to sign him after he was cut.
========
I think that the three that were kept will be minor contributors that Vrabel can count on.

And yes, Vrabel wanted to sign Gregory who he feels will be much more valuable than Pappers.

Dugger and Peppers are very similar players. One has a massive cap his wether he’s on the team or not, the other didn’t

Assuming this is directed at the coaches/GM but I want to believe he's just complaining about the media treatment after his release but that's probably a stretch.

Hard to believe he couldn't have been of value even if the system wasn't a good fit so he's seemingly not wrong but at least wait until you're hired before you go after the last guys.
Will he sign with the Bills and beat us 31-0... ..

“He wasn’t a starter anymore and he was going to become a problem due to that so we cut him” essentially
This team has growing pains ahead, there will be moments of turbulence during the season, really don't need a distraction like this.

Whelp, can’t say I understand this one but willing to see Vrabel’s vision out. felt like a classic belichick surprise cut.

I did think it was odd Peppers was out there for final preseason game..

So, basically they think he’s lost a step.
IF Peppers lost a Step: Kyle Dugger lost five. Chalk it up to nobody is perfect Vrabel.

Peppers is one of my favorite players.. it's unfortunate It didn't work out under Vrabel... but then I ask myself to twin... how come Peppers has been on 3 different teams??..

The fact he’s chirping about it online kind of goes to show the concern in the first place. I’m sure he had value but Vrabel likely had concerns that he may become a malcontent if he is no longer a starter and isn’t used a lot. So he looked at his roster and said “I can get most of what Peppers is giving me from Dugger and Pettus, I may as well save the headache and a little cap too”.
He’s chirping to protect his market value. That’s it. Nothing deep or meaningful, just marketing himself with a reminder of his experience and versatility at a time when potential buyers are looking for ways to buy low.

Still interesting teams aren’t lined up to sign him. He’s been available several days now. Maybe that’ll change in the next couple days.
Teams are busy preparing for opening games with their rosters set. Unless they have a glaring hole at safety they’ll stand pat for now. Probably will hear more next Monday.

In today's NFL you have to be able to pressure the QB. Eagles made that emphatically known this past SB. It just does wonders for all the other levels of the D.. we happen to have an all pro at CB who will always take away a teams best option. That in turn helps the front 7. I like that marpu is interchangeable.. he can stick TEs and still play the run. Vrabel's running a one gap, cat coverage scheme, wich is exactly how you affect an offense and create havoc.

Vrabel says it wasn’t scheme fit, and most are interpreting Peppers tweet to mean the same think. Vrabel thinks he has better players.
