Patriots Rumoured Landing Spot For Andy Dalton

Yeah, definitely agree. There's a reason a lot of these QBs are free agents. Teams are realizing it isn't that difficult to find a franchise QB anymore; with the mean QB play rising to an average QB rating of mid-90s, it no longer makes sense to throw tons of money at a flawed QB like Winston, Rivers, Mariota, Tannehill, etc. None of them are getting tagged.

I think you're missing it. You want to know why there's a glut of QBs this year? It's simple:

Brady
Brees
Rivers

3 older QBs are still around, and that takes up spots that would otherwise go to those QBs who are going to be stuck on the market. Hell, you can even add Fitzpatrick (age 37) to that group, with the Dolphins likely hoping to draft their QBOTF this year. Also, this is a year where, more than usual, injury to starter QBs has led to volatile situations for multiple teams (Colts, Panthers, Jaguars).

The normal way of things is otherwise intact.

High level prospects signed and given plenty of development time (i.e. Darnold, Allen)
Middling/Stiff QBs still not given up on (i.e. Goff, Carr, Trubisky)
Tantalizers who are often just good enough to keep their teams from ditching, but don't win (i.e. Stafford)
Placeholders (i.e. Fitzpatrick)

In short, don't expect this to become the norm.

I mean, your argument that it's not hard to find a franchise QB is that quarterback stats have become inflated since the 90s, but that's kind of pointless... even if scoring is up, you still have to win games. You have to judge a player against their era.

We're entering an era where there really aren't many star QBs. Among QBs under 35, after Mahomes, Wilson, Ryan (who will be 35 in May), Watson, and perhaps Jackson if he can keep it up, what QBs would you consider "franchise QBs" right now? Guys like Goff or Stafford or whatever might be franchise QBs by some definition (they can get a good team to the playoffs) but they're also weird albatrosses because they're limited and they can handcuff your ability to get a better QB because better the devil we know.

They're just as hard to find as they've always been. Ask the Dolphins, Jets, Bills, Bears, and any number of other teams that have cycled through a million of them. You almost always find a franchise QB by drafting one, and it's often a matter of luck and other factors (franchise QBs rarely emerge on bad teams no matter how talented).

Mahomes? I mean he's likely not going to win six SB's. But still. Maybe Burrow.

Let’s see Mahomes without one of Hill or kelce first and it took a major choke job by Houston/SF to even win this year

You could play this game with every single one of Brady's Super Bowls. I don't understand why there are people who so desperately want 2+2=5 with Mahomes. He's self-evidently a special quarterback.

The fact that Andy Dalton is a ginger is very problematic. He can't be out in the sun for very long. The Pats usually play games at 1 or 4. Then again he could be a Daywalker...

Mahomes without Hill last year (4 games)
64%, 1453 yards, 8 TD, 0 int, 109 rating

I think Mahomes did fine without his dirt bag receiver....

It's okay that Mahomes is really good.

It also doesn't make him what Brady is (/was.)

It makes him what he is. A one-ring guy who is young and has time to win more.

How did the Pats win SB 51? I mean the Chiefs weren't the first team to succeed by having another team implode.

And he did fine without his weapons this year. It's clear he's not a product of his weapons. Pats Nation is envious. Heck the NFL is envious of the Chiefs.

Not of the Chiefs of Mahomes and if Harry wasn’t robbed of his only impact play of the season we win that game.

I love hearing the bolded about a first round pick.

I mostly agree but I think it's fair to say having a tremendous supporting cast can't be ignored.

I'm not a Mahomes hater, I like the guy. But winning super bowls with Brown, Patten, Fauria or Branch, Givens and Graham is a more impressive result for me than winning with Hill (one of the most exciting WRs I've ever seen), Kelce (the new Gronk) and Watkins.

Maybe they are just pedestrian players made to look great by Mahomes. But if not then I'll be interested in seeing how Mahomes does when he's dealing with a lesser cast because I think that will start to help us understand just how special he may be.

Dalton got the Bengals to the playoffs a number of times. The Bengals!! He isn't great, but if you can reach mediocrity with the Bengals you'll probably be fine elsewhere. As a placeholder, he'll be fine. If we're looking to chase the #1 pick, we'll need to see if we can acquire Blake Bortles.

For the record:
Though Brady’s and Mahomes’ SB records are identical after each’s first two seasons as starters (1-0), little else is comparable.
Game manager Brady kept it safe and simple in 2001 while the Pats D determined the team’s success in most games.
In year 2.....no playoffs
Mahomes’ year 1 ended 1 game short of a SB but with a MVP trophy.
Year 2, Mahomes secured the elusive Lombardi despite dealing with a major injury.

PatsFans who feel the need to belittle Mahomes by comparing him to Brady is comical. After two years, Mahomes is winning bigly. The mouth breathers should hold their breaths for about 17 years to see how Mahomes career plays out

Mahomes is good no doubt. But Brady won the SB his first year as a starting QB. Mahomes did not. So Mahomes is not winning "bigly" over Brady.

Frankly posts like the one you quoted are embarrassing. “Yeah well let’s see him do it without one other single good player!!” The guy is great. I would assume he will win at least one more Super Bowl but who knows? Either way it doesn’t diminish the ring he just earned.

What happened after they made the playoffs?

Hint: 0-4, 1 TD, 6 INT, 57 passer rating
