Patriots Rumoured Landing Spot For Andy Dalton

In fairness, a big part of the “it he didn’t have” included competent coaching, competent team building, and law abiding teammates.
That certainly didn't help his cause, but I don't trust him one bit.

I don't like Dalton, but once Brady is gone I don't think there's a tried and true "This is how you transition from your once in a lifetime QB to the next one" strategy. Want to tank? You could end up with a Jamarcus Russel. Best case scenario you get a Luck, but as the Colts showed if you don't surround him with the right cast, the QB won't get you there alone anyway. People point to Montana-Young, but Young was considered a bust in Tampa before going to SF. That wasn't so much an intentional plan as it was the 49ers needing a backup and getting lucky.

So of all the options, I'm not going to scoff at Dalton for a year or two. We're going to need some luck to find the next guy anyway, and there's no guarantee that happens in the first year Brady is gone.

We're never going to get another Tom Brady, at least right away. I'd be happy if we can get another Drew Bledsoe.

The problem is Dalton is a known commodity and while he is pretty much the definition of "league average QB" it's pretty clear he isn't anything more than that. With younger veteran guys like Bridgewater, Mariota, or Winston you'd be taking a shot on unrealized potential with a change of scenery, or with Newton you're gambling he returns to some semblance of his MVP form. Dalton gives you none of that upside at the same cost.
I dunno if there's really that much potential with Bridgewater, if you have Bridgewater you better have a talented team around him.

Mariota could be something but needs a lot of coaching, he's had one good season in 5 years, not really sure why anybody is excited about him at this point.

Winston has a crazy ceiling if he can play smarter.

I'd rather roll with Stidham or trade/sign Brissett or Mullens over any of those guys. I wouldn't even mind Bortles assuming he's going to be cheap.

I think Case Keenum would be the cheap veteran to sign if you're going with Stidham and want competition. Keenum is this year's Tannehill in my opinion, somebody will get him for a bargain. He was pretty good the rare times the Skins blocked for him.

Jay Cutler and Tim Tebow have the same number of playoff wins.

Josh basically traded a mediocre QB for another mediocre QB + 2 1st round picks. That is a great trade.
Tim Tebow is the worst quarterback to every start a season in NFL history. Regardless of who got traded for what he traded a better QB away to draft a horrendous one. He also didn’t do much to help Bradford in his one year with him.

Why not a tired old QB , we have collected tired old OL , TE's and WR's.......lol

Apparently the Jags are looking to trade Foles.
I want it just to watch Eagles fans heads explode

While I staunchly want Brady back, I do like Foles a lot more than Mariota, Dalton, and co.

Also he’s an obvious first ballot Hall if Famer, since he led the Eagles to more points in one SB than Eli Manning did in two SBs

there won’t be another Tom Brady period and seven we have an average QB for the next 10-15 years some in here will be in for a rude awakening

Mahomes? I mean he's likely not going to win six SB's. But still.

This team can't afford to let Brady go and then grab a stiff like Andy Dalton.

Mahomes? I mean he's likely not going to win six SB's. But still. Maybe Burrow.
Why does Burrows have a better chance of winning 6 SBs than Mahomes when he hasn't even won one yet let alone played well or win the MVP?

I'd take Foles over anyone not named Brady.

His cap his are an issue though

I meant to imply the list of available QBs

Yeah, definitely agree. There's a reason a lot of these QBs are free agents. Teams are realizing it isn't that difficult to find a franchise QB anymore; with the mean QB play rising to an average QB rating of mid-90s, it no longer makes sense to throw tons of money at a flawed QB like Winston, Rivers, Mariota, Tannehill, etc. None of them are getting tagged.
