PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Patriots/Packers joint practice 8/17/23

Haven't read or heard anything about how our punter and kicker did today in the wind. Anyone hear anything?
I think I saw something about the special teams portion being canceled because of the “chippiness” of the overall practice. Lots of scuffles.

There was nothing even remotely close to this reported in the entirety of last year's TC and preseason. I mean even the O's most dreadful practices of the past month look like rainbows and sunshine compared to last year's best.

And they were in MOST games last year. This isn't promissory by any means - there are way too many things that can happen and the enemy gets a vote, but I simply don't believe the "sky is falling" negativity either whether it be about the WRs, the QB, the LBs, the OL, etc.

Random observations / comments…

- I HATE 290 lb Keion White barreling down the field on special teams. Yeah these guys are athletes but is it really necessary for him doing that that? Just more stress on the knees. Leveling up to the NFL is already a stress.
- I’m a big fan of practice / scrimmage scuffles. I want to see an aggressive attitude…no backing down.
- Mac working on anticipating where WR’s will be and making those receptions is HUGE. This is why chemistry is so important. It’s a part of the offense that Brady was very good at.
- Zappe with the Int’s…is he still throwing a lot of sidearm? Height is an issue…same with Cunningham. Can’t be throwing sidearm unless it’s absolutely necessary.

The more this preseason goes on, the more Mac establishes himself as a more polished and pro-style QB than Zappe.
He's nowhere close to top echelon, but if he learns to keep his head, and funnel it like Brady did, he could be a guy you can win with.
Question is - will Malik show enough at QB to force his way onto the team and be the #3 emergency?
I still want the Pats to bring in a better vet QB2 behind Mac.

When not pressured, Mac was #5 in EPA/play last year. He's got great skills, but has been terrible under pressure. Whether he can cope with pressure will make him or break him.

Our schedule this year is actually brutal on paper.
The only games I feel confident winning are NO, WAS, IND, DEN.
On the other hand, the only games I think we have no shot are @BUF, vsKC
If we return to solid Patriot football, we could be in every game. I think we can split with all 3 divisional teams.
10-7 seems like a reasonable guess.

Glad but not surprised we came back from a below average practice to kick some ass
After listening to the naysayers all day yesterday. This unfortunately is their Prosec
