Do you think Boutte wants a new contract or not?
Everybody would like more money. He'll have more money with his next contract. So sure.
The Pats told Boutte and his agent what they thought when they traded a first for AJ Brown and paid Doubs.
If your agent and the team aren’t discussing a new contract when you don’t have anymore guaranteed money, then there’s nothing left to say.
Either way, I don't think the trade surprised anybody.
Ouch… my hamstring hurts.
yeah that was funny, the first time, point taken again
The season hadn’t started yet and he asked to be traded months ago.
See I didn't see his, Wolf's, or Vrabes' press conference on it. I saw it reported in the sports media but not sourced... sort of "sources say" stuff. Again, I'm not shocked and I doubt Boutte is. I'm still not 100% sure who wanted the divorce, but what's important at this point is we don't have to somehow pay him alimony
It’s not what the player perceives his skill level is… they all think they’re great. It’s snaps. Boutte was a starter and played among the most snaps on the team the last two years. He thinks he should be starting now… NE disagreed.
More like, might have thought he
could work in with the existing group. Doubs and Brown have been there a while. The point isn't that he'd be a no. 1 or 2 WR., but that he'd be a no. 3 receiver. this year, for no. 3 money. And WRs get hurt.
I made all the arguments against keeping him a couple months ago, including this one. If we need any of last year's big contributors, it's Pop, who's a slot guy. So there's that.
I haven’t made a single grand statement.
You’re assuming.
Remember… ouch, my hamstring hurts.
Please don't take offense, but I'll just take any point of these and move on. Life's short and you know, I type too much.
The Pats moved on when they acquired Brown and Doubs. That was time to sell Boutte in NE stock like I did. I wasn’t able to see the future, I made a calculated guess based on facts.’
Looked that way. One sort of wishes, though, that they had some kind of camp they could put all the possible contributors in, then factor in their likely performance based in part on said camp. Oh
that's right.
Look, someone was going to be gone. I thought we'd lose either Chism or Williams. Looks like there's faith that we have a path forward inside and outside. Or maybe we only want to keep 5.
I provided an example. I didn’t say it was scientific fact. But we can certainly look to similar trades for examples.
Ok. Tell me what other starting receiver was traded for a guy with this thin a resume and a 7 not in the upcoming draft. but in the
next year's draft. The point isn't WAHHHHH KEEP MY BINKIE, it's more like "how low can you go."
I’m lost… this is a convoluted word salad.
Oh that was hard?
If you perform well for three years running it's more likely you will do it the fourth and subsequent years. One year is a fluke. Two is a bit more reassuring. Three, and that's just what you bring to the table.
They were going to cut him outright if they couldn’t trade him.
They were going to cut somebody. I didn't have the conversations with Pats management or see their press release on who.
In retrospect, probably they've known they're going this way. The "they were going to cut him outright" might or might not be an overstatement.
They did the same to Kendrick Bourne last season. They had a roster crunch.
yup.
You sure type a lot. This meandering mess can be attributed to one thing, you and other fans overrated Boutte’s value.
Not to get testy, but you have trouble with statements like "If anything, he is
more proven after three years of good performance."
It's not so much just that I type a lot. It's also that you don't have patience for reading.
A victim of the new age, I'm afraid. A better attribution would be that I naturally enjoy the language that appears to pose such an impediment to you.
It's absolutely legit to call into question the trade value the team received in exchange for Boutte -- Or Boutte's contract., if you like.
We got bupkes, based on the knowns. I am assuming that our side sees some value in Reed. That value is an unknown to me. It does not show up in his resume to date. It might show up in our team's evaluation of him.
But your argument seems to be that we did fine even if Reed sucks.
Did I miss it, or did you make an argument asserting his value in the trade?
Or was the argument that the value part was the 7th rounder in 2028?
At ground, is that your argument?
Do you think Reed's good but we don't know it?
Do you think that a 7th round pick in 2028 is good compensation?
Or do you think we accepted very low value perceiving ourselves to be over a barrel?
