I don't hate trading Boutte but staying in conference and for what seems like actual peanuts makes me hate this trade

I thought Boutte did well on his return. Look at his first 2 playoff games. 9 targets, 7 receptions, 16 yards per catch, 1 TD. And this was against the league's best defense.

Boutte did really well in the first 2 playoff games yes. But that was a month or so after his injury. His first four games back were very low key, especially compared to what he was doing before the injury. at one point before that Atlanta game i think he was on pace for close to 1k yards.

Consensus I’m seeing is most fans hate this trade and wanted Boutte to stay.

I think the consensus in the Boutte camp was he was in favor of the trade. Who knows how much longer he would play the good soldier if the Patriots didn't trade him and he was the #4 or #5 WR in his contract year?

Supposedly Rosenhaus and Wolf and company had a meeting days before he was traded yesterday. Maybe Rosenhaus said that Boutte might not be as amenable to staying with the Pats and it was in the Pats best interest to trade him.

Boutte has been the good soldier so far this offseason, but he has a history of being a locker room distraction and acting out. There was always a chance he could have become a problem.

I don't like letting go of a solid receiver who could provide depth in that group but maybe this was more of message to the players that if you go about your business the right way the way Boutte did this offseason/training camp that the team will take care of you. Might be something that ends up a net positive in the long run but isn't always easy to quantify from the outside looking in.

201 of those yards and two of the TDs came in two games (Raiders and Saints). So over the other six, he had 231 yards and 3 TDs. That is 38.5 yards and 0.5 TDs a game as a #2 WR. Not that all impressive.

Which is the issue. I think that Boutte got pissed when they payed Doubs as a #2 receiver, which he believed he was. Boutte's numbers however have been that of a #3, and while he might turn into a #2 he hasn't accomplished that yet. I think that they realized that while Boutte had comported himself professionally to this point, he would likely start having issues if he was getting low target during the season. With his next deal riding on those numbers, so they felt it was best to move him and took a player over a pick for a more immediate return.

IF this Safety makes an IMPACT on Defense or ST's; we won't be talking about Boutte much longer.
