OT: Watson to Brownies

To me the part that sticks out is:
Grand jury proceedings are conducted under secrecy and are led by prosecutors, who generally have wide latitude in how aggressively they push a grand jury to indict. The defendants and their attorneys are not normally present to put up a rebuttal in these proceedings, as they weren’t in the case of Watson.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the local prosecutors made a really bad ham sandwich in order to protect the savior of their local NFL franchise. We already have the reports that there was an unusually high amount of interaction between the prosecutors and Watson's attorney. Somehow that seems to not be getting much traction, but it seems important to me.

I agree the detective should have a more neutral stance, but a crime investigator that starts with the assumption that there is no crime wouldn't be very good at their job either.

I agree with the last part of the article:
“We will be taking the deposition of the other officer assigned to the case soon,” he said. “We continue to collect information, and it continues to make our case stronger.”
I think it'll go down like the OJ trial, the criminal proceedings will go nowhere, but given how much time they have to prepare the case and the amount of additional information they are gathering and the lower burden of proof, the civil proceedings will be a real problem for Watson.

I also predict that Watson will in some way or form repeat his behavior and get himself in trouble again. It's clear what he's been doing is a deep-seated thing and yet he says he did nothing wrong, so odds are high he'll get himself in trouble again, and there will be little sympathy for him the second time around.

Browns going to Brown.....lol. Not a huge Mayfield fan by any means but he was their best QB since the franchise came back to the NFL. Then they trade an absolute HAUL for a player with 22 civil cases against him AND give him 230 million guaranteed. Its honestly hilarious. He probably wont ever play another snap in the NFL.

“I start by believing all the victims,” Baker replied. “Absolutely. Stand by that 100 percent. Anyone investigating a sex crime should start by believing the complainant. Provided defense provides something that refutes it, we're going to believe that complainant.”

"So in your world of investigation, the defendant always has to prove his innocence?" Hardin asked her.

"Yes," Baker said.

That "detective" should be fired.

He absolutely has the right, but in the context of at 24 accusations of improper sexual contact ( and who knows how many more) at these locations, it gives you pause to question his motives in doing so....
Pro athletes know that they are high profile and possible targets so they are taught to mitigate risk by their agents and the teams.. Hence the team employes the masseuses. They have th eright to go elsewhere but any reasonable person is going to wonder if there is veracity when he chooses to go elsewhere and 24 women make an accusation.. This isn't one or two......
The problem for Watson's supporters is the question of why he needed to go through so many masseuses. You would think that he'd find one he liked and stick with that one. And if it was just a massage that he was looking for why no men? Watson looks as guilty as sin.

or work in England, where that axiom is the law.

Yeah, that is a troublesome statement that will come back to bite her if she is ever on the stand. Any smart cop would avoid the press like the plague. Much like going to a strip club after midnight, nothing good can come from talking to the press.

I am not a “Watson supporter” but I don’t think there remains a soul left on God’s green Earth who is defending Watson as simply looking just for massages. Even his defenders admit it was about sexual interaction (i.e. happy endings).

The question becomes a matter of whether or not sexual assaults took place. It is my belief they did, but I am not sure we have enough evidence that constitutes proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Hence the lack of criminal charges.

However, neither a civil court nor the NFL’s kangaroo court require proof beyond a reasonable doubt. I believe Watson will pay a lot of money and also be suspended up to a year. His agent was wise to structure the new deal so Watson’s year one salary is a “mere” $1 million.

Not related but his agent has a punchable face and looks like a POS.

Don't they all..? I mean, I thought that was one of the criteria to enter that profession....

Its actually worse than that because he had them sign an NDA before the massage.

If you don't want your small wiener size being leaked to the public the best way is to minimize how many people know, so that is a poor reason to get an NDA.

I assume we can all agree that for a millionaire athlete to sexually harass so many women that he must have an exceptionally small wiener :haha:

Or he gets off on making girls feel uncomfortable and intimidated?
Could be as simple as that. He’s friends with a porn star he could get consensual sex from her or her friends.
He could hire a high class discrete escort.
It seems he gets off on a massage turning to something more.
He may get off on putting this women in a situation where he uses his celebrity and power to have them do things they didn’t want or plan to do.

What I just don’t get is that he is a famous multi millionaire athlete. If he went to any nightclub, he’d have hit women just throwing themselves at him. Just pick one of those.

Either that or just go straight for the prostitutes instead of hiring masseuses and treating them like one.

Another way of saying he is a lousy tipper.

"Maske confirms our report that, in defending Watson, the NFLPA will point to the punishments imposed (or not) on Commanders owner Daniel Snyder, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to support the argument that Watson’s punishment, if any, should reflect the consequences those owners received — especially since the Personal Conduct Policy warns that owners are held to a higher standard than players."

Could you imagine if he never plays for the Browns?

This may end up being the most idiotic contract in professional sports history.
