OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

When it comes to the TD:Ratio sure, but the 4 games disqualified him from winning it. That's a quarter of the season. It's a close race this year, but I do think Brady fatigue has a lot to with it. If this was Allen/Burrow/Herbert/ even Mahomes that posted these stats with the same team record they'd win it in a landslide.

Your logic is what is used by the voters, so I'm not knocking you. Having said that, neither Brady nor Wentz should have been penalized because they missed games. If you're the MVP of the season, you're the MVP of the season. I mean, Rodgers missed a game this year, and he's still going to be either #1 or #2 in voting.

And, in the case of Brady, the particular reason for the missed games should have led voters to rush to make him the MVP.

I found this interesting, no because of who was chosen (though I was pleased to see that), but because I didn't expect Linda to weigh in on the subject.

Tom Brady led league throwing for over 5300 yards and 43 touchdowns. Brady didn’t miss a game. He led Bucs to 2 seed in NFC with a 13-4 record. Oh yeh, he’s the oldest starting quarterback in the NFL. He’s the MVP. But it won’t be the first time, the most deserving doesn’t win.

That's awesome. I still believe there is a chance for Brady but even if not, I LOVE that so many are making his case. It is ridiculous not to give it to him as ANY other QB (Rodgers, Mahomes, Manning back in the day) with Brady's season wins it unanimous.

This entire Bucs draft class, aside from Tryon-Shoyinka, has had a learning year, as you’d expect with so many veterans back. Spots could open for some to step into larger roles in 2022.

Not many have mentioned the awesome schedule for the Bucs. Sunday at 1 is the exact day/time you want this game to keep the 7 day week routine the exact same. It also bodes well for the following week should the Bucs win as they should have normal rest.

They are just creating content to create revenue. Some of them are on shows where they debate and each person takes a side. I don't think Brady has a chance because of the INTs and because of Brady fatigue. Rodgers never threw a ball that wasn't single coverage in his life. Go route expert.

It think Brady's clearly the MVP. I think Rodgers is clearly #2 in that race. And I think that people have wanted Rodgers to win from the start, at least partly because they thought that was the better narrative, which is why it just took one bad game for Brady, when the receiving corps was dropping like flies, for the media to turn from Brady as the clear MVP to Rodgers as their clear MVP, even though that took completely ignoring the fact that the same opponent (Saints) destroyed Rodgers earlier in the season.

Rodgers had a great season. Brady had a great season. Rodgers wins by a whisker when it comes to efficiency stats. Brady crushes everyone when it comes to volume stats, and is right behind Rodgers on most efficiency stats. And Brady did it against overall tougher defensive opponents.

Anyone who has the Bucs taking a QB high in the draft isn’t paying attention at all. I haven’t seen this, but haven’t been in draft mode much either yet.

They need a WR3 if they resign Godwin

I like your thinking here. You want to keep the offense fully charged, and ride the Brady wave for as long as possible. Off the top of my head, I'd say that the top 4 target areas should be, in no particular order,

CB
WR
TE
DE/DT

Some will put RB or LB somewhere at the top, but I think they are more dependent on what the team does with veterans who are clearly good enough to be brought back. Having said that, I don't have LB much behind that above group. David's not getting any younger, after all.

Yeah you ride the Brady years as much as you can. He'll at minimum give you a shot with a postseason berth. As far as needs I think they need to lock up Carlton Davis, a WR3, I agree with the TE who knows what Gronks future holds, and other than Vea the defensive line is old. White hasn't taken the step a lot of people thought he would this season and without David in the lineup he has looked putrid.

I think you give Brady as little as he lets you and work on the defense. CD3 is a must and the pass rusher contract they handed last year will hurt if they want to try and keep godwin.

As of right now, if memory serves, the Bucs are expected to have more 2022 cap space than the Patriots, by about $6+m. They'll have fewer players under contract, but currently on the list to return:

Brady
Trask

Vaughn

Marpet
Wirfs
Smith
Hainsey

Evans
Miller
Johnson
Darden

Brate

Vea
Barrett
Nunez-Roches
Tryon
Nelson

White
David

Murphy-Bunting
Winfield
Dean
Edwards
****rell

Succop
Pinion

Which is a pretty good start. But I don't think leaving the cupboard bare, which is reportedly one of the issues that helped to make Brady comfortable with leaving the Patriots, is a good idea.

It's rediculous that there is even a debate. Agree, that if it was anyone else other than Brady, it would be an automatic MVP.

It's not only the stats, but the injuries on the team, the drama of AB, the quality of the opponents defense, and the amount of times he put the team on his back to make comebacks.

Edit and tied for the best record.

Not bare but make sure the defense is setup, especially the front. They have 2 old players there that won't return they need depth there and drafting a CB with your best pick might be a good idea unless you see a can't miss WR. I don't know what they will do with Jensen but that's a tough call. He may have to go and Godwin I have no idea. If they can give him more years for a smaller hit you do it.

There are a ton of talented wr FAs slated for next year.

OBJ would be interesting target, could probably be cheap and he loves Brady

#Bucs protected the following practice squad players: RB Kenjon Barner, K Jose Borregales, TE Darren Fells and P Sterling Hofrichter
