Ok, I'll go on record calling this the "A Tale of Two Cities Draft".
The Vrabel draft (It was the best of times)
The Wolf draft (It was the worst of times)
I loved the first 3 picks. I gave them a solid A.
I didn't love the day 3 picks, except for Crownover. I gave it a C-minus.
I hope I am wrong about the day 3 picks but I already had a feeling this draft was very weak after round 3. But I thought we had a chance to get some better players. Of course we shall see but overall this was a little disappointing in the 5-7 range. Moving up for Charles Demmings would have made a difference in my opinion.
My preferences would have been:
5th Round: Domani Jackson or Cyrus Allen (or Kaytron Allen). I only mentioned Jackson since we are in desperate need of CB4 (not sure about Vildor as a UFA signing). It's why I wanted Demmings.
6th Round: Crownover was great
6th Round: Harold Perkins or VJ Payne
7th Round: Nussmeier over Morton
So like I said I thought the draft was weak after the 3rd so I'm not overly disappointed as I figured we'd get players who will be only depth pieces.

After digesting more, I think the grade is a missing category "Very good". We started out behind, picking at 31 each round. Getting Lomu and Jacas were each an A, terrific talents where we really needed them, and kudos for making the move-ups cause they'd have certainly been gone. Also love the Raridon pick, he's HH + blocking.

We lost our 4th rounders which was the sweet spot in this draft, but it had to be done. I trust the 5th round selection of Prunty cause we had him here on a 30 visit, and has good measurables. We got Crownover in the 6th at 196, a consensus 4th round (125) value, and now we're loaded and flexible at OT. Also like RB Miller at 245. So that's 6 picks who are likely contributors.

Not at all sure about Obiazor at 212, Morton at 234, and Quintavious at 247, but will keep an open mind.

We did also acquire a 2027 6th rounder by trading down from 198, and now for 2027 we have four 6th's (though no 7th). If we are trading say a 2nd rounder for Brown, those extra 6th's will come in handy to try to fill that gap. Hopefully we'll also score a comp pick somewhere.

As the kids would say, I would call this draft the definition of "mid". A big fat C. Now I'll be corrected if Lomu turns out to be Solder 2 and Jacas turns into Judon 2. The rest will be lucky to ever play in the NFL as starters. Come to think of it, I don't know why the cheapskate Krafts couldn't merely pay Chaisson and Tonga to return. So dumb. We better be signing AJ for this super weak wr corp as well.

Most people grade drafts on the consensus rating of the players.
But the consensus is rarely right.

They drafted pretty much every position I laid out pre draft that I wanted them to take (with the exception of LB) pretty close to the order o felt was priority.
I wouldn’t begin to think that I am a better judge of it the puck was the best at the position for the team, than the pros, so I assume it was, and therefore I’m happy with the draft.

I gave it a B for the same reason as others, the strong and targeted top of the draft followed by the depth picks later which don't look as strong. Honestly they didn't have the same immediate needs they had last year and therefore they could focus on accreting starting caliber players to replace current aging vets, which they did do at RT, OLB, and TE (these guys may not have to start this year if they aren't ready), rather than maxing out the number of picks they had. Then they apparently weren't able to do find those starter-level players later on at OG, S, or DT so they splashed picks around for older depth players. Like others I didn't like the use of both the 4th round picks, one of which could have possibly led to another starting level player, but you can see why they felt they had to spend the draft capital due to the positional rarity at RT and the program fit at OLB.

If we’re being honest the only thing we can grade on is what the teams needs were and whether they were addressed. I think that’s an A, trading up multiple times to get your guy is a good thing.

We’ll see what happens. Every guy could be a bust and we look back on this draft as an absolute lolcow but they put in work. And I’m happy

Pats biggest weakness was the the entire OL, but only took one significant OL in the first round. Edge was another need which they addressed early. They needed better blocking at the TE position and they took one in a reasonable round I. Not taking a WR at all could signal they plan on trading for Brown. If I were the Eagles, I wouldn't trade Brown.

The 3 players that have the best chance to play are their top 3 picks in Lomu, Jacas and Raridon.

Draft will be graded after year 1.

I too would have liked the Pat's to have picked 3 to 4 starting OL in the 1st round but it is what it is. Maybe next year

*SMH* You really don't get it. The drafting of Lomu and Crownover tells me that the Pats are planning to carry 5 OTs on the main roster. That they're going to groom those 2 and Bryant to be Swing Tackles to be ready to step in if there is an injury. My hope is that they plan to play Lomu at RT to replace Moses in 2027 with Crownover being the primary swing tackle that year, but with position flexibility the way the Pats had when they had Ashworth and Gorin behind Light and Klemm in 2004.

Campbell showed how good he was prior to getting injured. In fact, his stats were BETTER than Trent Williams was as a rookie. Thinking that the 4 game stretch in the play-offs where he allowed 4 sacks, 2 QB Hits and 13 hurries on 160 pass blocking snaps against the TOP defenses in the league while injured is somehow indicative of how the 23 year old plays shows a lack of understanding of the game or how a leg injury affects an O-lineman's ability to play.

Sorry, but it's outright asinine to think that those 4 games means that Campbell's position isn't guaranteed.

Guarantee he's not. He's going to give Maye a pass..

For me, it's a clean slate for Campbell. I'll start looking at him in TC.
As I said in my response, I expect Bryant, Lomu, and Crownover to be training as swing tackles. All 3 have spent time at both OT positions. It will be interesting to watch them develop.

My biggest concern is the lack of depth at Center. The Pats don't have that 3rd Center that is typically needed. Maybe they'll sign a UDFA to fill in the roster, but going in with just Brown and Wilson is worrisome.
