That's because the Pats play a bunch of single high safety. McCourty is way, way too far back in the field to be a regular in run support. And that's fine because having the range that he has back there allows Chung to play much closer to the LOS. I'd argue that McCourty's main contribution in the run game is enabling Chung to make the plays he makes.
I wouldn't say McCourty's strong in run support, but I wouldn't say it's a weakness, either. He's a technically sound tackler.
You do not have to try to explain defensive schemes, and coverage duties to me me. I FULLY understand! This has nothing to do with my assessment of his play. Even in watching All 22 film during the season last year for gambling purposes. I would see him make many more bad reads on the where the ball was going in comparison to the 2014 season. And they you just have plays where he makes horrible mistakes like that OBJ/Butler play last year, and how he horribly got Juked on that Langford run.
Im not saying he's horrible, bad, or anything along the lines of that. I just don't feel he's improving in any parts of his game like you would want out of a player you just locked up long term. I watch all the games every season in All 22. Im just seeing it with my own eyes.
