Starting to think Drake maye does not have the clutch gene. I really really wanted to like Maye and wanted to think he's the answer. He still may be the answer....but through his 13/14 whatever games last year and today, he makes very few clutch plays. He comes up small when the team needs him. Mac Jones came up small in the biggest spots and Maye is on the same path. If they ****ed up picking Maye this will set the franchise back another 10 years.
This is a reality many on this board fail to understand. This isn't Madden where the Pats can draft the right players and pick up where they left off with Brady. From 2001-2019, we laughed at how many teams kept drafting failures at QB, but now we could be witnessing that with the Pats right now.

Giving Maye a mulligan on some of the bad throws for today. I've given them to young Pats QBs over the years due to weather, so fair is fair. Prob explains why even no-drops-in-2024 Jakobi had a ball slip through his hands. Neither team's running game got off the ground. Seemed like it was hard to cut.

Just glad that football is back. Now I need to watch the US Open tennis final.

The mistakes are frustrating. He seems to throw INTs EVERY game. I know some the 10 INTs he threw last year weren’t his fault (maybe 2 or 3), but you’re right in that he hasn’t been clutch once yet, maybe we can consider the play vs Tennessee last year ? But then he throws a boneheaded INT in OT. So Maye giveth and then taketh away.

I don’t think they ****ed up taking Maye. He was the consensus 3rd best QB by everyone (some even had him as #2). That being said, they really aren’t setting him up to succeed, bad offensive line his first 2 years, and not getting him elite weapons will really hurt his first 2 years of development. I know great QB’s make others around them better, and he’s done that to a certain degree. But Boutte and Douglas are not elite WR’s, tough to win with them, they aren’t dangerous players.

We’ve got to push back on this nonsense. If we allow the impatience of fools to push the narrative, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Being a winning NFL QB is not easy, it takes growth, experience and a growing confidence. Plus, having a damn good team around them. Drake Maye has the physical skill to be a winning QB. That’s saying more than you can say for most. What he lacks is consistent fundamentals, experienced judgement and that good team.

Seriously, we need to push back on these idiots and their rush to judgement. To me, he’ll never be Brady, so we need not to compare him to him. But, he has the passing skill and athleticism to be as good as Bledsoe and Grogan. Two imperfect Patriots QBs who could have won SBs with a good enough team around them.

Nah, when he proves otherwise then you can come quote me and ask for my thoughts.

Already said it last season that people were overhyping him so I will continue to compare him to Mac til I see something better. Mac Jones first season was better than what I’ve seen from Maye so far, hopefully he improves unlike Mac.

Does anyone remember how Tom Brady looked in his first game with McD as OC? I realize it was a different era, but Brady looked very bad. They wone the game and Brady had 2 TDs a INT and 2 fumbles.

Maroney and Dillon had great games but Brady looked bad. My point is that things can change and McDs system isn't just something people seem to pick up right away and do well.

He was 11 of 23 with for 163 yards. Not saying that Maye will sniff the achievements of Brady, but I am saying some of you need to stop with your ceiling expectations and then having stop the ****ing meltdowns when reality strikes.

Being critical is one thing but some of you are ready to move on from Maye and it doesn't make sense to me. Several of you would have moved on from Brady 2001 after the 1st 3 games. In those 3 games he threw for under 100 yards twice and no TDs also no INTs.

Also, I want to put a preemptive comment out there, IF McCarthy has a huge game tomorrow, it’s not a mistake not trading down and drafting him instead. Let’s not forget who he gets to pass to. He has a way better offense around him, and it’s not even close.

It's quite evident that you just can't reason with some fans. By my count we have people who want to trade Gonzalez, and many who think we should start planning on what QB we will draft next year. Like WTF.

It's funny, for those dumping on drake.. the lions have 3 points I wonder if Campbell is going to bench him... .. even in a loss I'm still encouraged by Vrabel and where the organization is headed... work in progress.
This. Everyone is ok with growing pains until they actually experience the pain part.

McDaniels was running Brady's offense when he was named OC. Let's not pretend that McDaniels was some guy who came in with experience and told Brady (a 3 time Super Bowl champion) how they were going to run things. McDaniels was an errand boy who picked players up at the airport when he started his career with the Pats in 2001. And the reason Brady was bad was because the offense sucked.

In fact, Derek Carr said he had a private meeting with McDaniels who told him that Brady bullied him in NE. Why he told Carr that is beyond me.

We say stuff like this BUT....Josh Allen went 10-6 his second year throwing to Cole Beasley and some guy named John brown that played on 26 teams

OK then Brady sucked all on his own early in 2006. As a 3 time SB champ, he still had ****ty games. Why would we think that Maye would be above having a ****ty game. You helped make my point. Appreciate you

You're comparing a 3 time Super Bowl champion to Drake Maye? I didn't help you make any point. Your premise was that the QB was going to struggle picking up McDaniels' offense. You can make that case now with Maye, but not Brady.

Maye will be fine. His arm talent is incredible. He made a number of great throws today. In a new offense with a lot of new players around him and having no run game put him in some tough situations. He will adapt. The int was because he was hit while throwing.

John Brown had a 1000 yard season before playing with Josh and the Bills. Far from a stud, but good #2/3 WR for most his career so not a total scrub. But more importantly, Bills had the second ranked scoring D, giving up 16.2 pts/game. So let's not pretend Josh put the team on his shoulders. The were the 23rd ranked scoring offense, 26th ranked passing offense. They won with defense.

Our fkn defense better get A LOT better for when we play a legit offense.
Other than a few plays that the front seven crushed, I didn't see too much.
Maybe I missed it.
That offense we saw today will probably be bottom 3rd
