How come we never have good WR's?

Our current top 3 WR's are in the top 11.

Also, Schuster is 3, Meyers 12 and Bourne is 13. Even our short timer Cooks is #5.

More than half of the top 13 on this list have played for the patriots.

Maybe it’s because most folks looking to determine “good” WRs just don’t look at this metric ( Catch %) …..

Right or Wrong…….Observers are obsessed with Yards & TDs.

"This poll is stupid"
And Denver's Defense gets all the praise we are right up there with NFLs best defenses..those statistics are on Parr with past patiots teams that have won championships..

Yeah! What do these dorks think, this is a discussion board??!

This place is a Vision Board, ffs!
I had charcuterie board in the office pool.

Damn it -- stuck with cheese and meat again.

Well, I see the fig jam has something to say about the offense's EZ issues.

From my observations as a fan.. we have top notch coaching especially on offense wich has been sorely lacking past few seasons. This offense allows for all the WRs to have great spacing, run great routes, and be on thier assignments. The TEs are also heavily involved. I'm very impressed as a fan to be able to see what a difference coaching makes for all the WRs.. Hollins, Boutte for example are on pace to have thier best statistical seasons. The WRs are also clutch... when's the last time we could say that..

We had an upcoming game against them and a reporter brought this up with Tomlin and asked him what they could do different. His answer "we aren't going to change, we do what we do". This is how he coaches, and what has fans so frustrated.

IIRC that was Bill Cowher’s approach too. Focus on perfecting your specific brand of football and dare opponents to beat it, rather than changing up game plans week to week. It’s not totally irritational—play to your strengths and let your players get into a groove rather than overthinking. But at the end of the day, it makes it too easy for game-planning opponents to scheme against you.

Or to put it another way, it assures your team will never be really bad, but barring QB heroics keeps them from being really good. 9-8.

Agreed. That is the Steelers whole belief system. They don't deviate from what they do as an organization. **** Lebau his defenses were awesome but Brady was able to carve them up because they never changed up.. Tomlin I think is very good coach and will likely remain in Pittsburgh. They pretty much have been devoid of a QB last few years and it's been impressive that Tomlin has still won.

It occurs to me that Tomlin could have been a tremendous college coach. His strengths would have been even more valuable and his weaknesses far less relevant.

This is true. I tend to keep forgetting doesn't Tomlin have 2 superbowls while HC of the Steelers? 2005 and 2008?

05 was Cowher.
Cowher would’ve had zero had Bill not purposely given up the 3 seed week 17 against the Dolphins taking Tom out and losing that game. My guess is that Bill wanted to avoid going to Denver and face the familiar Indy in the divisional round.

In fact, the only 3 times the Steelers have gotten to the Super Bowl was because they avoided NE in 2005, 2008 and 2010. The Pats would’ve obliterated them in 2008 had Tom not gotten injured.

True. Everything posted True!!! I think a coach like Vrabel would relish an opportunity to go to Denver.. I believe that has to come from your head coach IMO..

Cincy had already rolled over and effectively said "Here have the 3 seed, and play PIT" who I don't think anyone wanted to play that year even though they were locked into the 6 seed.

I want them to have the #1 seed and have the easiest path to the Super Bowl. I think they are going to get it if they beat Buffalo next Sunday.

That's what made NE giving the game to Miami that much more frustrating. Indy was the clear favorite, but NE was still the two time Super Bowl champion that had yet to lose a playoff game. There would've been a butterfly effect had NE beat the Dolphins week 17 like they were supposed to. Had NE locked up the 3 seed, they most likely take care of Pittsburgh and there's a 99.9% chance Palmer doesn't take a cheap shot that destroys his knee in the Wild Card round. In fact, I think Cincy easily takes care of Pittsburgh had Palmer played. Cincy was a damn good team in 2005.

It could have happened like that. But I remember most of us here back then feeling like TFB dodged a bullet.
