If Mac is hurt for the most or rest of the season, I would think they would give him another year. Probably too early to make a decision after 20 games. And use that cap space to put some talent around him.
Maybe, but part of me could see them feeling like Jimmy is a "known quantity" and the fact that he probably won't command an absolute top-of-market contract will let them be closer to winning now.

BB has zero interest in a high pick because he does not want to pay him

If BB gets a top 5 pick it will be traded for a 4th and 6th round pick in 2027.

Belichick won't have to worry about paying a first round drafted in 2023 until at least 2026 if not 2027 or even 2028. What are the odds he will still be coaching then?

So what are the chances Bill uses his cap space to sign Garoppolo next year?
He’s not the answer, unfortunately if the Pats wind up having one of the worst records, they need to draft another QB in the 1st round. They need their franchise QB, not sure if Mac is the answer, he certainly has regressed. And Jimmy G is would just be a stop gap.

Bill didn’t have his son on one side of the ball and Matt Patricia on the other side. He also was building a very fundamentally sound team with good talent.

The last few years have been the least talented of the Belichick era and the coaching situation is a mess.

Brady got a solid cast of veterans and young explosive players and Charlie Weiss was running the offense and Romeo Crennel was in charge of defense. That’s a pretty ideal way to develop a young guy.
I’ll go a step further. He never has the chance to be the GOAT without that early development structure. Mac gets this “scheisse.”

You have to wonder how much these coaches overachieved with the Pats when they all fall flat on their face when they leave.
I honestly think Patricia had an embarrassment of riches on defense when he took over and everyone immediately after him was an improvement

To reiterate the pats played a practice squad WR over their most dynamic WR. 53 snaps 0 yards for Humphrey.

Hey, he did get one target! Where he failed to recognize he was the hot read and didn’t come back for the ball, ending a series….. But I’m sure he’s doing a much better job listening in practice than Bourne…..

Mac is a work in progress but seems to make some horrible decisions at the worst moments….Our defense is piss poor again this year… Can’t stop the run ….anytime we got an advantage on the score… The defense let them come right back down the field and score again… Going to be a long season. I think the Doofins have shown that you don’t have to have an elite quarterback but you’d better have ELITE WR and now Miami has 2…..

LJH playing > 2x as much as KB is inexcusable, IDC if he bopped your mother.

There is much to be concerned about. I don’t think anyone was expecting a 14-3 SB run, but the regression that we’ve seen since preseason (since being 9-4 last year ?) is cause for concern.

I’ve been a fan of Mac since NE drafted him. Last year, he showed fight and never-say-due attitude. The 4th down today that lead to a Jonnu first down was the type of thing I liked last year.

But. An injury preceded by an obvious regression : cause for concern and frustration. I don’t need a yearly SB. Last winter, I was truly feeling good about Mac and year two. Now ? Feel like all bets are off. Great plays followed by bonehead plays. By Mac, by the WRs, on D….
I know we were spoiled with the almost every year Super Bowl runs… Now it may be like the Dooshfins … 40+ years without a Super Bowl

That dude could get it done with the local McDonalds staff with a week to practice.
He’s been in the NFL 23 years and has always had a terrific structure. Oh, and he’s the GOAT.

Guys, Mac throwing some unfortunate picks and the offense struggling to get going is NOT a reason to bash on Mac - like he regressed. We all knew starting over with a career DC, losing JMD, would cause Mac to struggle - but it's ludicrous to blame it on Mac regressing. This would have taken some time, which showed signs today. But, Mac's injury looks significant. It's going to set everything back. Horrible break for the season.

Awful awful play calling in key situations. Mac really missed Meyers.

Mac was staring down receivers and ignoring open men. One the play they went to Harris on a swing pass, the entire defense went with Harris. Smith had gone the other way. He was WIDE open, yet Jones still went to Harris. . On another, Mac chose to throw into triple coverage despite having Harris open with no one within 25 yards of him. This was an issue with MAC last year and it's continuing.

Mac Jones is NOT Joe Flacco and we shouldn't be using him like he is. Agholor and Parker are not Moss and Metcalf. We shouldn't be using them like they are (though Parker had a good day, finally). Not sure why Mac is having issues with the back shoulder passes, but only the one to Parker worked.

The O-line is an issue. Wynn on the RT side with Brown on the left isn't working. Wynn and Brown got pushed back numerous times where it forced Jones to move up. I don't know if Jones is dropping back too much or what. But it's an issue.

Bourne should have been the slot man today with Parker and Agholor outside. Taking Bourne off the field hurt the team again.

He’s not the answer, unfortunately if the Pats wind up having one of the worst records, they need to draft another QB in the 1st round. They need their franchise QB, not sure if Mac is the answer, he certainly has regressed. And Jimmy G is would just be a stop gap.
Agreed. I initially loved Mac, he has heart and works hard, I just don't think those bad INT's are something you fix easily. The coaching changes have nothing to do with him throwing a ball directly to the other team repeatedly.

Hoyer for the rest of the season means we will honestly be lucky to win a single game, so we should take a QB if we get the chance.
