IF we wind up trading Mallett for a 4 or a 5 next year after 3 full seasons as a back up having never used him I think he would be worth the originally investment of a 3. I think thats what you are getting at? But I dont think that means we cant hope he has somehow upped his value in the eyes of at least one GM and I used some real small criteria in my assuption as to how the value could have been upped and clearly a pro personell man would have more to go off (or rather done more analysis on what little we actually have to go off).

I see no reason why a player's current value in the league has any relationship starting point or no to what round he was taken in especially when he has zero league resume. Only BB has an idea and maybe not an accurate on at that of The Hammer's prospects. I'd wager that were he given truth drugs and forced to talk honestly and completely he'd say, "He needs to show what he can do vs NFL players in a real, not practice context before I can assess his merit." And that in a nutshell is Mallet's biggest problem to an external observer's value assessment.

I really dont see how my assesment is considered a sunshine approach. All I did was take his original value and assign a few positives to make it better.

The kid was drafted in the 3rd rd and I said he has low second round to third rd potential. And I said given a crappy QB class I could see that adding to his value possibly putting him as a high 2. Assuming no team panics over this years crop all I did was push his value up slightly from where originally selected to consider 2 things his having beat out Hoyer (someone who has started in the NFL) and for his having stayed out of trouble which was persumed to be one of the reasons he fell in the first place.

If anything the only problem with my re-assesment would be the original value if BB was the only GM that felt he was worth a 3 and no one else was picking him until the 5th than his having beat hoyer and stayd off the pot might mean he is only worth a 4 in the eyes of someone originally assesing a 5.

    ..:bricks:

He's mostly been lousy in his limited time on the field, and his delivery is still too slow. How does that not count?

I'm glad I scrolled down a few posts, because I wasn't sure if you were serious or not.

Many have claimed that Mallett is somehow better than Flynn, despite Flynn's very decent showing in both NFL starts, throwing for 433 and 3 TD's + 518 and 6 TD's. In fairness, he also threw a couple of INT's but also had completion percentages in both games over 61%--which isn't too shabby for your first 2 starts.

If Mallett had 2 games like that, people here would be calling for a trade of Brady, but since it's someone from another team "he hasn't shown us much of anything."

To put it as simply as possible. Because you are not qualified to make that assessment. Or well I guess to be fair I have no idea what your qualifications are and without knowing them I will stick with what I know from BB. Which again is that BB felt he was better than Hoyer who now has some starts in this league.
Facts like Mallett beating Hoyer and another team making him a starter at points last year are more important to me than your opinion however lofty your opinion of your own talent evaluations may be.

To be fair, though, doesn't Flynn go with a fairly large contract? Whereas Mallett is still on his rookie deal.

Sorry but the Hoyer ship has left the harbor. He signed his RFA tender. Arizona isn't exactly brimming with QB talent either so I see no reason for your optimism that we're getting Hoyer back.

Brian Hoyer signs RFA tender | ProFootballTalk

What the Pats need in free agency is a passrusher. We can't expect to get a Chandler Jones talent via the draft each year, especially not when we're picking late in rounds 1 and 2.

    RFA tenders are not guaranteed.

    Mallett better start packing. :snob:

OAK was rumored to be trying to get him to restructure down a bit to something more reasonable, although it hasn't seemed to happen that we know of.

If Matt Flynn ends up starting for them, why would a 5 million dollar contract be seen as anything too bad?

The bottom line is that he's proven himself nicely in both NFL starts, where Mallett hasn't shown anyone a damn thing...and I loved the Mallett pick myself.

It means that in the last few days we've added a bunch of names like Josh and Luke McCown to the scrub list, and now have even more rumors and league whisperings of mega-stars like Tyler Thigpen as SEA's backup, and now Colt McCoy as SF's backup.

Add up all of the awesome QB's like this and you'll likely get a realistic feel for what GM's really think of Ryan Mallett outside of fantasy land.

He may be traded, but it isn't going to be for anything more than a 4th round pick.

The irony of your post being, of course, that the same first sentence you tried to use to marginalize me apply 100% to you. It is what it is. You're blowing smoke up your own skirt without giving any attempt at an honest appraisal.

I hope the Patriots can get 2 firsts and a could of seconds for Mallett. I won't hold my breath on it. I've seen him play.

Heyward-Bey to the Colts. Good sleeper signing. Luck's strength was 20 yard+ passes and he'll play to his strength. Wayne, Hilton, and Bey will be a good trio for Luck. If they can draft an O-line thatll be a team to watch.

I was a bit surprised to see it become more and not less, but then when you think about it that really isn't much to pay your starter either.

They decided to make him their starter for less than 1/2 the money they were going to pay Carson Palmer. Do we really expect him to be much worse than Palmer? In the meantime they saved a lot of money and potentially improved their starting QB situation.

As for M.Flynn, he looked like he at least belonged in the 2 games he started. When you throw for 433 and 518 with a total of 9 TD's in two games, people tend to think you may deserve some more reps. On top of that he certainly didn't appear to be frazzled in his rookie start on the road vs a veteran coach in Belichick under the lights of MNF. That has to count for something to in the minds of scouts and GM's.

All that said, I still don't expect him to succeed all that much because the team around him totally sucks, but he should be able to do at least what Palmer did for less than 1/2 the money.
