Lets first start by noting that a 3rd pick for a a QB when that team has a hall of famer firmly entrenched is actually a significant investment.

Then lets understand why he fell to the 3rd round. One of the reasons being he had smoked some pot. Which now gets negated somewhat by a few incident free years.

Lastly he beat out Brian Hoyer for the number 2 spot on this team. Not a huge feat but really it is the only accomplishment he could have made when we drafted him barring an injury.

I dont see him has having a huge value but I think assuming a low 2 or a 3 is more than fair given where he was picked and given the QBs in this draft and individual teams opinions one could make a case for a high two.

BB's investment is irrelevant. It's a sunk cost.
He has gotten some return as you point out, Mallett has served as the backup.

I agree that a 3 would be a good return this April because in a deep draft that 3 itself could net a decent prospect or alternatively one of the two 3s we'd have could be use to move up our bottom rung 2nd and net a player of choice.

Have you seen the Brady 6? How could anyone have made those mistakes? In a perfect world what you are saying would be accurate The guys that the pros thought were better than Mallett did not do good so therefore Mallett will not do good. But you know that it is not how it really works, Mallet is his own man and the failures of those selected ahead of him have nothing to do with him at this point in time.

Again I think the logic for setting Mallets value in round 2 is that he was originally selected in round 3 and has done nothing himself to make you think he cant be worth that and anything positive you can come up with can potentially push him into the 2nd round value. That combined with a weak draft class for QBs and who knows maybe the Browns would give up a high two. Personally I think his value is still in RD 3 but I would not consider it a falling value and if anything its rising which is why I said a low 2 or a 3 was his value.

He's looked mostly like garbage in limited play time.

Look for Hoyer to hit the market again this year, hopefully not on late cutdowns again (for his sake). If Palmer's going to Az, Arians will be going with a downfield attack system, much like he's done in Pitt and Indy, and that's not Hoyer's game.

Your re-assessment isn't really a reassessment, though. It's a sunshine approach to a clearly biased and rosy opinion.
