N’Keal Harry Requests Trade

I do like Matt Chatham but he is so wrong about Harry.

Receivers taken after Harry:

(36) Deebo Samuel
(51) A.J. Brown
(56) Mecole Hardman
(64) D.K. Metcalf
(76) Terry McLaurin
It is fun to watch DK Metcalf and marvel at his size and speed but I wasn't all in on him before the draft. With the neck injury and all the talk he was a one trick pony I got scared off. With that being said both Deebo and AJ Brown looked like the perfect Patriots to many people before the draft. Deebo is a physical and versatile receiver who can play multiple spots. AJ Brown is what we all hoped Harry would be. A big physical receiver who outmuscles corners and makes plays after the catch. I just don't understand our blindspot for wide receivers.

Harry is just the most recent/noticeable example. His film review is sometimes wildly bad as well. Even Lazar, who didn’t play the game at that level, is better.

But no one can break down film as well as our own forum’s Team Stidham in 2019. Their performance was incredible.

I was right there with you on DKM. He had boom or bust written all over him. Re: the blindspot, I have convinced myself that Bill doesn't want to 1) draft WRs from schools where he's not tight with someone on the staff and 2) won't draft any WR that might be a diva.

I remember sitting in front of the TV that night when the Patriots were on the clock and I was so excited about them getting Brown or Metcalf.

Apparently the scouting department was also excited about that. Here’s an inside look at Belichick/Caserio stepping in.

Then why draft Chad Jackson and N’Keal Harry?
Another swing and a miss by BB?

I'm of the opinion that guys who play outside the numbers are more apt to be far too pretty, more apt to be divas and are very hard to coach. I am also of the opinion that Bill and the rest of the brain trust have a mental block when it comes to drafting outside guys that are coachable. They are so focused on whatever it is they want out of that player that unless the player checks all the boxes, they won't draft them. They'll take these hard nosed players no problem, as well as a late round pick who knows he has to outwork everyone just to make the roster. I feel you can watch the draft, see the way some of these first/second round guys carry themselves when the spotlight is on them and know that Bill isn't even thinking about drafting them.

A lot of people were wrong about Harry including me and I know nothing about drafts and prospects.

From the beginning I understood the logic behind the pick. Big kid. OK hands. Box out DBs for the ball. Thinking was his physical ability would offset learning the offense. They chose him over Deebo and others. Whatever. They had their reasons.

At that time my assumption was they at least vetted what made the kid tick.

I was OK with a washout rookie year. It happens. Not a bust at that point.

I understood having an erratic year 2 with COVID and Newton as QB. He stalls when Meyers kicks ass. Now I start asking questions....

Reports from OTAs were mixed. Good and bad. Not consistent performance or effort. We are in Year 3 now.

He needed to fight to the death to make the team- a true measure of a man.

Instead he turtles and cries to his lawyer to trade him.

It’s on the film. LOL
Chatham was not totally wrong. Harry has shown flashes. Look at the SEA game.

Harry has no clue how to maintain the right intensity and focus here and doesn't have the guts to fight through adversity.

A total front-runner of a WR.

"Crap shoot"

green - very good
yellow - good
orange - not so good
red - bust

certainly looks like a crap shoot

Disregarding the others for the moment:

Campbell's had both seasons derailed by injuries. In the opening game last year, he had 6 receptions on 9 targets. In the second game, he popped a pair of ligaments in his knee and was done for the season.

So exactly how are you counting him in your analysis here?
And if Campbell was here, he'd be getting the same treatment. Wynn has played WAY more than Campbell - was leading the team in offensive snaps through week 10 last year, and people whine about him all the time.

If Campbell gets a pass for injuries, why wouldn't Harry. Fell way behind his rookie year, then got lit up in a very good game against Seattle, then got absolutely destroyed when Cam set him up over the middle for a headshot in the 49'ers game - and he missed the next two weeks. (I didn't realize until then that Harry had a concussion history going way back.)

And while I rooted for Harry - I root for everyone on the Pats to succeed, he has been a bust pick, of course. If the Pats had used that pick to grab Campbell, at this point, would I feel any differently?

He has had plenty of opportunities. With the greatest QB of all time. With Brian Hoyer. With Cam Newton. He isn't going to step up. It is over he is done.
He missed his rookie season in all but a few games and returned in time for Brady to suffer his second major injury, this time on his throwing elbow.

The subsequent season he had no preseason due to covid and had the worst starting QB in the NFL.

I was willing to give him the chance to prove himself, assuming the passing improved mightily with Mac Jones, but then he asked to be traded.

He’s a quitter, he’s soft, which explains so much. He may thrive in a better situation, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The 2019 draft and roster moves killed the dynasty.

The 2020 draft and regular season record got Bob to call out BB publicly and force him to clean house, change his approach in player evaluation and get back to basics for drafts.

I wish Bob spoke up sooner as this years draft on paper looks the best in quite some time.

So you've got no real argument, then, and are just flailing about. You really thought one injury at the start of his rookie season would be a good comp to a guy who's lost his first two seasons to injury? And, then, you thought the way to go was to compare him to Wynn, who's not a guy people want moved for a conditional 7th?

You need to quit while you're way behind.

Not keeping Brady killed the dynasty. Doing a ****ty job with the draft just made it more expensive to keep the dynasty going.

Lazar… the guy who said Sanu was a route running genius who all the other young WR’s could learn from in camp right before he was cut lol?
