When the NFL Owners decide to stop it. The Commissioner and what calls itself The NFL, has always been the owners. When they do the next CBA, there needs to be major changes across the board. The question is, do the owners have the balls to do it?

What changes? Players are always going to use whatever leverage they have to make more money. It goes without saying that a superstar is going to have more leverage than someone who sucks.

Garrett didn’t do anything wrong here and there’s no need to change a thing.

And when an athlete comes out and says he wants to play for a winner, 99% of the time it’s nothing but a negotiating ploy to get more money.

One would think the owners, who supposedly made their money by being good businessmen, would know how to make good business decisions. Yeah, there are “Thanks Dad” owners like Woody Johnson and Mark Davis and Jim Irsay who just inherited their wealth. But there are many self-made people in the group, and we see them perpetuating the problem, like Halsam and Jerry Jones

Cap goes up every year, we know this, idk why we are still kidding ourselves that teams will regret some of these contracts. We've been doing it here for years. People thought the Mahomes contract was insane, now it's a steal.

We seem to be complaining that the NFL makes too much money and owners should violate the cap and not give the negotiated monies to the players.

Yes, teams make stupid choices on how to use the cap. And some teams are much more willing to borrow from the future.

The players and owners are very happy negotiating on how to split more and more money. Our objections should be with the union that negotiates as much money as possible for the players.

You have to be very, very careful with the metrics because otherwise you might have players who are stat chasing at the expense of playing within the scheme. It’s a lot easier in the NBA where the rosters are a lot smaller and the stats tend to directly correspond to winning. The NFL is the ultimate team sport and many times it’s difficult to parse things apart.

Could you imagine the temper tantrums if a player was asked to sacrifice his stats for the welfare of the team when stats were directly tied into compensation?

When a non QB is making QB money, there’s clearly a problem the NFL needs to address.

Why is that a problem? As long as the Browns obey the cap, what precisely is the problem here?

One can certainly argue the Browns are unwise in their spending but I mean from a structural standpoint. There’s nothing here that requires “fixing” the CBA.

This deal isn't the horrible deal for the Browns people in here are making it out to be. People need to stop looking at real dollars and start looking at percentage of salary cap.

This is a 4 year extension, not a new deal. It takes him through 2030. The salary cap has been going up an average $24 million per year ever since the covid year. $300 million in 2026 is in the realm of possibility. The NFL is going to opt out of their current TV deals in 2029* and make an absolute fortune. The cap could be $400 million by the time this deal hits its final year.

* Hear me now and believe me later: Watching the NFL on TV in 2029 will look nothing like it does today. Enjoy it while ya go it.
