Michael Bennett TRADED TO DALLAS!!!!

Your answer didn't demonstrate any understanding of the situation. The Patriots offense hasn't been good since the start of the Jets game. Using something as silly as "#5 passing offense" as if it means a damned thing doesn't help your cause, either, because the Patriots have played a bunch of ****ty teams (Dolphins/Jets without Darnold/Redskins/Giants), and struggled against the only good defense they've played (Bills).

And the notion that reliance on a heretofore uninspiring rookie WR, who's missed half the season, is something to be preferred over a quality receiver from the outside is an absurdity that anyone should be ashamed to put forth. That rookie should be looked at as a possible bonus and/or desperation choice, not a first need piece. As I said earlier, if you've watched the Patriots play, you know they need help at the position, so you already know why they would bring in an outside receiver.

The issue is whether or not the team has the ability to bring in a system-appropriate, quality WR from the outside. The issue is not whether or not the team should try to do it. The on field impact of players like Gordon and Brown in the past two seasons should have permanently put an end to such a question.
I will just say I disagree. There is no point in responding further.

Felger and Mazz going to complain they didn’t move Bennett for Ramsey?

We haven't seen Harry play a snap of meaningful football yet, Brady only throws to Meyers out of absolute necessity, Gordon is no longer Flash, and Dorsett is a WR3 at best. If Jules missed any significant time, oh boy. The O has struggled for more than "part of a game." You can't trivialize that so much. Help is needed.

With all that said, I think we can be okay if we fix the OL. That's far more concerning to me than the perimeter players at this point. It went from probably our strongest unit last season to probably our weakest this season. What a difference a few injuries makes, huh? Let's hope Wynn comes back and can play as well as he was playing before he went down... and stay on the field for the duration.
The patriots lead the nfl in scoring.
The offense had a poor game against the bills. Every offense has a poor game.
The patriots have scored the same number of offensive TDs as the chiefs.

Edelman, Gordon And dorsett as 1,2,3 are fine with me. Harry as a WR4 with Meyers as wr5 is fine with me.

Again the question I have is who is incompetent in those roles? Which of those are you talking about making a trade to push down the depth chart?
I agree OL is a much bigger concern.

Probably been simmering for awhile. Can’t say it’s shocking.

Not saying this isn’t true (very plausible it is), but this account’s twitter history is nothing but retweeting others. This is the first story that this account has “broken”.
Yeah, I love these generic feeds. Maybe I’ll start one. “I hear the Pats are looking for a wide receiver.” WOW

Also, if you post an eye rolling comment in a thread someone starts about a player...saying there’s NOTHING to see here  and that player gets suspended, you should probably offer a mea culpa, right? (Now that’s called a sub-tweet, just to continue the theme.)

offense has struggled more than just against the Bills. WR is a glaring need. Most are still overrating Gordon, he's a shell of himself

WR is a glaring need

WR is a glaring want. Most of the offensive problems come down to blocking issues, and that includes the apparent lack of weapons.

Struggle is a relative term. The passing offense is ranked 5th and the patriots lead the league in scoring.

Dorsett >>> Amendola
Who says we are getting rid of Dorsett? If Harry shows up and balls out we may be fine. Tough to succeed as a rookie receiver, especially here.

Lots of rookie receivers are succeeding and who was the last real rookie receiver we had that had back to back 1k yards receiving in a power 5 conference?

Bennett should be seen as an insurance similar to AB should have been.

Right now we don't seem to need him but an injury or two we sure will.

Trade him away now and then injuries start piling up and suddenly things look bleak.

The problem is that since we've decided to focus on using the talented LB's to make plays, we've then gone back to 2-gapping stout fronts. Bennett is a one-gapping outside specialist who would have done well in the 4 man front we were going to go with, but circumstances have dictated otherwise.

So even if we were to lose linemen, Bennett would still be a misfit. He's not stout enough to two-gap, and his bag of tricks are all about attacking a lineman, hat on hat, especially on the outside.

Was thinking the same thing.

If High or KVN go down then Bennett is more of a necessity. Even then they just might play Simon or Calhoun more

Calhoun wise bennett Simon and winovich are all playing a similar number of snaps. None are playing an awful lot.
I think when you really dig into it bb has created a defense that uses 3 basic concepts
1) 2/4/5 or 4/2/5 depending upon what you consider the edge players.
2) 3/3/5
3) 1/4/6 or 1/3/7

But within those concepts he runs different schemes with different personell and skill sets.

Agree. I put Wise, Bennett and maybe Chase in the 4-3 pure DE bucket and Simon and Calhoun in the "Edge" bucket.

At some point I see Wino as an Edge but the team is keeping him purely as a pass rush specialist for mow

LOL....yeah..sign me up for the WR weiner group! Just seeing AB bust zone coverage and making plays in week 2 made me realize that we really need an elite WR to give the rest of our WR's some spacing...and it probably would help the rushing offense too!

As for affordability....we have ~3.4M in cap...trading MB nets us another ~2.3....giving us ~5.8M ...give and take a few hundred grand to spend on an elite WR.

Here are two guys that could be available:

AJ Green...12M salary...but with 8 weeks left it would only be ~6M.

Emmanuel Sanders.....10.2M salary....at 8 weeks...~5.1M

I think Green....if 100%...would really open things up for Edelman big time and get the play action going even better...

You're math is wrong. There are 11 weeks left, not 8.

AJ Green would be a cap hit of 7.76M
Sanders would be a cap hit of 6.6M

All true, BUT it is simplistic to think that all we are doing in 2 gapping from a 3 man front. What we are doing is much more complex than that. Things that can use the skill set that Bennett has. No one on this team can do what Bennett as SHOWN he can do. There WILL be times when those skills will be needed and that is why he will not be traded.

Bennett isn't the first guy who bristled at the way he was being used. Branch and Shelton are 2 that come to mind. Both needed time to settle in and become productive. How many times have we heard that this is NOT an easy place to play. It takes some time for the players AND coaches to adjust to each other. Bennett's combative nature pushed the conflict to the point of suspension. Not good. But it seems like the lesson was learned and BB's point made. All should be good when he's back for Cleveland.
