McDaniels to Bears talk is becoming deafening.

Why does everyone keep ignoring the REAL reason Josh is wedded to NE. His FAMILY. He moved his NE born wife and 4 kids to Denver and they had a horrific experience. It's the reason why he reneged on the Colt job. He has 4 kids one son who's the QB on his HS team. He is making HCing money and is only 45 years old. If he's to succeed Bill at most he'll be just 50, not old for an NFL HC. At any rate if things don't work out here in 5 years THEN his kids will be in college or out the door and a move elsewhere will make more sense.

In the meantime I will be shocked if Josh will up root his family for ANY job in the near future
How old are his children now?

I don't know enough about O'Shea to say hes good or he sucks. He had a tough time in MIA but i'm not sure that's all him. Fitzmagic had a decent year under him.

Actually I'd be ok with BOB. I liked him here. The O did well and he liked his running game.

Maybe. I have no idea what the succession plan is down there. Fat Matt's presence has me confused.

I don't see Bill going anywhere anytime soon (2 years?)
Chad O'Shea was let go in Miami after 1 year there because of the complexity of the playbook, and his inability to teach it to the younger players, at least according to Bleacher Report, so put as much or little credence into that as you want...

I did a quick google search, but I never found anything definitive., I know he has a son playing HS football. I found selfies of what looked like a teenage daughter maybe a little older. My GUESS is the other 2 kids are younger say 10 and 12 but who knows. Maybe someone with better google skills can find out.

Edit: I DID find out that I was wrong about where his wife was from. Josh met her while he was in Cleveland. She's originally from the Cleveland area. Still their family was essentially brought up in NE where they have lived for almost 20 years minus the 2 in Denver/St. Louis.

The only other jobs that could be available are Las Vegas, Washington, Minnesota, NY Giants and Detroit (I could see Campbell getting canned).

None of these options look attractive.

Minnesota Giants Chicago are the only threats of snatching Josh.
The age of his children seem like the biggest thing stopping him from leaving.
However I remember Stefanski interview where he said the kids didn't want to move from Minnesota but he promised s puppy and a trip to Disney world.
Sometimes a well placed bribe can change everything.

  • Josh McDaniels ’ wife Laura McDaniels is the mother of his four kids. The kids are Jack, 15, Maddie, 13, Livia, 9, and Neenah, 6. Worth noting this post was published in early 2020. If you read this in 2024, adjust accordingly.

Yea I was aware of that. I'm not sure I buy it.

Their last 9 games they averaged 25ppg and their last 5 games 400 yards of offense.

The ave 19ppg in 2019, 25 in 2020 now they are back to 19ppg again.

Interesting how both he and Bob Quinn landed in CLE

Patricia supposedly is the new Ernie Adams, at least this year.
Would seem to be a good role.

As DC he was super-conservative much of his tenure which would seem to align to a calculated approach of numerical statistical outcomes (from a rocket scientist? Who woulda thunk?). Putting that kind of brain in a research and analysis role would from the outside seem a best use of his talents.

I'm always happy to oblige if someone wants me to repeat how he thought LaCosse, Izzo, NKeal were sufficient as starters in 2020, and in 2021 started off 2-4. But 6 straight now, largely playing the type of football I like for at least half the time on offense, makes me fine so long as there's no involvement with mucking up draft/personnel decisions.

I'm not advocating for him, just passing along what I've heard.
Idiocy is what you heard. The Bill O'brien that exists today is not that Bill O'Brien. People change as they go through life, and Bill changed for the worst, severely, in TEX.

Based on what ??
1. Some of TB12's best seasons ever were with BOB.
2. BOB created the 2TE offense with BB while here. Brought in Gronk, Edelman, Hernandez while here.
3. Won several division titles in Houston as hc.
4. I'll give you the GM moves but look when they happened. Happened exactly when that conman Easterby showed up and immediately kept talking about dumping Hopkins. Look up the year Easterby joined, and when the bad moves happened. I think Easterby wrecked the Texans given BOB was an ok hc for several years before that.

BoB's attitude during the Texas thing was that of a man on a power trip. I don't think he'll slide back into an OC role as easily as you want to believe he can.

It's fun to think that you can just turn back the clock, put a guy back in a job he did well in and he'll do well again, but people grow and change over time. Today's BoB is not the BoB of 7 years ago when he was actually relevant.

It's obvious you hate the guy, but all this "growing and changing" you claim he's undergone resulted this season in serving as OC at the University of Alabama. If he returns to the NFL anytime soon it likely will be as an assistant; he could possibly get another HC job at the college level.

Yeah why would anybody ever think an assistant could come back after being a head coach.

Anyway, let's get back to Josh MacDaniel

But seriously folks, I don't know why Chicago, assorted other NFL teams, and every NFL analyst that calls a game are so high on Josh MacDaniel. They seem to believe he's really good at his job, even though DKF told us all a million times how bad he is. (stand by for time one million and one.)

Meanwhile, I am both nervous about and looking forward to the game @Buffalo (I imagine that whole city screaming at their lurking monitors right now "don't @ me bro!")

I'd like to see Josh and BB continue to march triumphantly through the league, proving their idiot critics to be hatchet men on a progressively less tenable mission. Know why? Because that would mean my team is winning and looks likely to continue winning.

Yes you caught me!!! I am a Patriots fan!

They ought to have a website for that.

Wow, Tune, check out the single comment on the "player wives and girlfriends" page

that wives and girlfriends page said:
Josh sucks as HC. He’ll be an ok-grade coordinator, or not absent Brady. So far, all we know is he looks good with Brady. He’s a lousy play-caller and he’s probably lousy in the sack which is why his ex-wife Laura screwed Peyton Hillis.

Ah well, I’m sure Josh has a new groupie to diddle between monster alimony checks.

And you wonder what the trolls do when we don't feed 'em here.

I don't want him and hope Bill won't touch him with a 13 foot pole. His experience in Texas wasn't just that of a bad HC, but that of a literally cancerous personality. And he wasn't THAT good as an OC for the pats. He was OC during Brady's heyday as a longball guy. And it's telling that his era coincided with 0 rings for the Patriots despite the absoluttely ENORMOUS offensive talent we had on the team at the time, including the lion's share of the Moss era.

In fact the ring drought in New England coincides almost exactly with Bill's arrival (2007) and his departure (2012) which is, in my not so humble opinion, telling.

If pressed to name an alternative, I'd actually look at Ken Zampese of the Football Team. Currently their QB coach. I'm rather impressed with his work with Heineke, doing a lot with a little talent. It's no secret that Heineke is the same kind of quarterback that Jones is (although obviously a lesser example of the breed) and he's a journeyman coach who's seen a lot of different systems. Seems like a Belichick kinda guy who could bring a lot of knowledge to the role.

I'd far rather see that guy in our unit next year than some has-been who is best known by being carried by Brady and Moss and has gained a reputation for being cancerous.

IF McDaniels leaves for a HC position in 2022, I HOPE OBrien does NOT come back and take over as OC. I did not think he was that good as OC....

Zampese!? He's not related to Ernie Zampese...is he? Do you actually want NEM 2.0 (aka DKF) to have an aneurism right in this thread?
