Yes, I do think folks should temper expectations on Maye - it won't be an overnight change. There will be growing pains and he may not look a lot better in 2025 than he did in 2024. However, the rest of the team SHOULD improve around him, which should translate to several more wins. I'd be more optimistic about a bigger jump from him in 2026.
Just want to see steady improvement and more consistency next season. Not worrying about wins.
Also would like to see his performance improve in clutch situations.

Because of this, I actually think it'd be smart for the Pats to keep Brissett.
He isn't a great QB, but he's a dedicated pro - and has experience with JMD, and the offense.

As for WR's - get a lot, and let the best ones survive. We'll see if Polk can rebound, or Boutte can break out.
As for Pop - not sure if he has the instinct and smarts to excel in a JMD offense, but he'll sure have the best shot this year to try and prove it.
Jimmy Garoppolo should also be available as backup. He has a good bit more experience with McDaniels than Brissett does and he's probably still a better player. That said, he's a lot less sturdy than Brissett too but as a backup/mentor that shouldn't matter. Not sure if Jimmy wants that role right now or if he's still hoping to carve out a chance to take the reins somewhere.

Tempering our expectations will be fine as long as we have reason for hope.

Now that we have proven professionals running the team I think we can be patient. We are Pats fans, we have seen lots of bad teams.

So many fans were talking about bailing at the end of the last season because the coaching staff was an abomination and the ownership seemed clueless and self-absorbed.

I think the burgeoning fan revolt got their attention, and to their credit they righted the ship and made the needed changes.

Now the Pats look like one of the more promising young teams in the league, and there should be enough optimism to help us weather the storms.
From the team development part last year was a lost year. This years expectations are the same as last year. Build a culture, develop Maye and evaluate the roster. Wins and losses are not as important as how the team comes together and competes. While it would not be surprising if the team did well, we should not count on it and the expensive (draft, dollars, trades) players added during the off season should be investments in the future. The only exceptions should be a small number of vet FA to help with the culture and provide short term fixes to allow the young players to develop.

I hope McDaniels brings with him an improved running game. If we can have a running game that gets those 1-2 yd conversions or is a threat to pound it down the field in solid increments, Maye’s life will be that much easier.

I agree that Jimmy G is a better player than Brissett. He doesn't strike me as a leader who the other players liked playing with so I am not sure that he would be a great mentor. How the team feels about Milton will influence on who they bring in as a veteran backup.

I mean its like he drove all his best players out of town. Nope that was after the "Player" coach took over. Jacobs left, Hooper left and Adams forced his way out and they went 4-13 racking up one more win in 17 games than they did in 8 with Josh in 2023. and two less wins than they did under Josh in 2022. The despised McDaniels went 9-16 and the beloved Pierce went...wait for it....9-16.

I'm not defending Josh just stating facts. Doesn't change the perception of him but puts proper perspective on the final results of the situation. Call me silly but I believe Hoyer when he says the Raiders had no desire to work as hard as was needed to win.
Lucky for the Raiduhs, the rescue poodle is on his way!

I hope he also brings with him a real-live 3rd-Down Back in the mold of Kevin Faulk, Sheriff Woody, Sugar Shane, Sweet Feet & Dion Lewis.
I think of Gibson more as an all-purpose Back than I do as a traditional 3rd-Down one; and Hasty Puddin' just isn't good enough.

The jokes on us buddy…McDaniels is a colossal failure everywhere he went without Tom Brady.
****ty HC. Yes. ****ty OC...absolutely not.

As an OC he is 31-21 without Tom Brady starting. 32-31 w/ Cassel coming in for relief W1 2008. PPG is 26+

That includes No Arm Cam.

I’ll keep an open mind on him as an OC. Generally, I’m a big proponent of moving forward and letting go of the past. I wanted new fresh blood. Obviously, Vrabel thinks he’s best for the team in this role. My one stipulation is please keep him far away from any personnel decisions

He'll be fine. Next year will be tough. New system for Drake and talent level across the board on offense is weak.

No question.

We drafted Milton in the 6th round, he is better than Brissett, and costs $1M versus $8M. We have Maye and Milton, so for QB3 we can get a UDFA for less than $1M. Keeping Brissett would be a huge waste of cap space.

I like signing older pros like Sammy Watkins, but we need a WR1.

Boutte reminds me a bit of Lafell who had a nice little run.
Lafell is 6'3", Boutte is 5'11". I think they are different types of receivers.
If he can pick up sight adjustments he might be a decent possession guy. Bourne can play in the system.
I like Bourne too.
Pop will likely be better as Josh has generally used slots well.
Agreed.
Polk and Baker…I have serious concerns that either is bright enough, or wants to be coached which is rough learning an already tricky offense for receivers. Hope I’m wrong. If ONE of them works out it would be awesome.
Polk and Baker are most likely busts.

I would add Gibson and hopefully a RB who is a WR-type in the draft. McD likes to use the RB as a WR on LB mismatches.

Even after this whole season, I like Brissett for what he is... a backup who can come in and win a game or two for you in a pinch. Asking him to be the starter was a mistake.
At $8M a year, or even $4M a year, Brissett is a No for QB3. Maybe at $1M a year, but I would prefer working with a UDFA very mobile QB who is better on the scout team.

JG is a great idea, but for QB3, I think he will be way too expensive. We can add Hoyer as a coach to be the QB whisperer if that is needed.

I taught martial arts for several years. I learned about 80 self defense techniques from white belt to black belt. I could perform them well but once I was no longer a student but a teacher I needed to really understand the concepts behind them.
Docendo discimus.

Oh, I wasn’t saying I wanted him, just that I think he’s a decent backup. Milton is our QB2 and we just need to get a UDFA with upside for QB3.
