"DE" Weakest Link

I've said it all along - Landry is washed. I could see it even when people were thinking his lots-of-falls-&-some-into-sacks first half last year - was him being dominant. No. He's mostly invisible. No serious push, no speed outside, not great at edge-setting in the run anymore either.

It's going to be Jones, Ponder, maybe Swinson, hopefully Jacas. But we need a decent vet, even if just for 50% snaps.
I'd certainly lean Clowney over Bosa (who also seems 1/2 of what he was)
50% if the reps is basically a starter or at least one of a 3-man rotation. An experienced vet that will play that role won't come cheap. I don't see it happening unless BOTH Jacas and Landry aren't available.

EDGE looking up with Gabe Jacas signed. We'll see what kind of 2nd year leap Ponder and Swinson have to offer, and if Xavier Holmes is a real find. Lots of veteran and trade options still available.

Anything Harold Landry can provide would be an unexpected bonus after this time, but overall things are looking up.

I agree. I think EDGE will be okay. We also have Jones as an experienced player who may still have some upside. It will be interesting to see how competitive Landry turns out to be, not because of age and injury but just because we have some hungry talented youngsters pushing hard. Landry is competing with Jacas, Ponder, Swinson, Jones, and X, at least. Hope his rehab is going well.

Just found this enthusiastic evaluation of Ponder, published a couple of hours ago.

Dre’Mont Jones thinks Patriots got steal with underrated edge rusher
I saw that too, but always take these player takes with a grain of salt.
Remember last year there were some vet Olinemen (maybe Braberry and someone else) talking up Wilson who went onto be pretty underwhelming. Even before injury he had struggles.
Good that Jones is saying that, but again, I've seen this before.
I hope Jones is right.

Lazar keeps saying he thinks Dre Jones is a 1-to-1 exchange for Chaisson. But, I disagree. Jones is a better edge defender, and more stout with a better inside rush than Chaisson ever had.
I think Ponder is more like Chaisson - but let's pray that Ponder has more diversity to his game.
And now that Jacas is at least signed, there's a chance he could catch up and still play by week 1. Even though it may take him time to really get involved in all the rotations.

I still prefer a Boutte and Douglas / 6th for Thibodeaux trade at this time.
No thanks on Thibodeaux. I think that's the Pats thoughts as well. Remember that they have 1st hand knowledge of Thibodeaux thanks to Coweden and Shane Bowen.

Much prefer to keep Boutte and trade Douglas to whomever is willing to fork over a 6th.

Well that was a month and a half ago I said that. Things have changed. I prefer they keep Boutte now.
