"DE" Weakest Link

Clowney would be a great veteran addition who can stand up or put his hand in the dirt. He played for Vrabel in Houston and Tennessee. I'm surprised they haven't reunited yet.
Clowney would be my first option if Landry or Jacas can't play this season
but they can
the Pats are paying Landry and Jones, and used draft capital on Jacas and Swinson
they seemingly are very happy with Ponder
I would think Clowney is an emergency only option, and right now there is no emergency

Same here Rain. It's odd because as smart as Vrabel is he knows his edges are lacking. I have 0 faith Landry will be off PUP during camp and may even possibly Retire who knows?? I Mean Bosa even would be a nice veteran addition as well as Clowney. Just weird not more has been added thus far at edge.

are you that silly to believe Vrabel does not have a very good handle on current player injuries?

You realize the Patriots know Landry and Jacas timetable from the doctors to return right?

Clowney is a DE, he also wants starter money and snaps… not to be a bandaid. He might only be a bandaid at this point, but he’s waiting for a great opportunity.

That’s not here and now… if by the end of preseason the Pats or any team look thin at edge that’s when he’ll sign. He can skip most of camp that way and maximize his earning potential. Barnett the same…. not sure who Boston is?
Until Landry and Jacas actually step on the field we are thin at edge no matter how we slice it. Bosa not Boston I corrected that. I have more faith Jacas will before Landry does.

What correlation does that have to who's actually available now? Of course he does he's the head coach! The conversation piece is regarding the depth. Currently we have None with jacas and Landry unavailable.

I’ll wait for camp to start before concern sets in. The team isn’t rushing to sign anyone because they know what the doctors are saying… nobody here does.

It would be really, really great to overpay for Bosa because we are thin on June 26th and have only TWO players who are currently injured and who will likely contribute in 2026. NOT!

If EITHER Landry or Jacas were healthy for Game 1, I wouldn't want us to have spent the money for Bosa.

Consider now much different this is from suggesting that we sign a TE like Smith who would be an upgrade to Dippre.

Or consider how much different this is from suggesting that we sign a veteran backup IOL as an upgrade to Wallace.

or a backup safety as an upgrade to Brown.

Nobody here hasn't also seen Landry or Jacas on the field this offseason. So let's hope for the best for both guys!

What’s behind the paywall?
Behind it? I don't know. However as I've maintained all off season. I could see Landry playing and I could also see him at the podium this summer announcing his retirement. Could go either way.

@TheRainMaker

As I replied to Wozzy. Landry is a toss up to me. A player about to be 30 still recovering from a 2nd knee injury in 4 years. He's made plenty of money and not to mention look at all the former NFL players having to live in a life of pain and discomfort from injuries while they were playing. I could see him attempting to play this season on a limited snap count and I could very well see him at the Podium Announcing retirement. Either or is possible.

Landry was playing some of the best football of his career, he just turned thirty a couple
weeks ago. He’ll be out there playing football.

He was! early on Prior to injury he was explosive off the edge. The injury as we all could see impacted his abilities he tried to gut it out.. but.. the hope is he's out there!

This is why I believe Jacas has every opportunity to play this season. Assuming he plays, Landry's snaps will be reduced. Jacas, Ponder and Swinson will all be auditioning for the guy to take over for Landry.

Doctors can swap out a knee ligament as easily as changing a car tire. He should be back, time will be dependent on his rehab. We’ll see…

Ponder and Swinson presumably have gotten stronger this offseason and are ready to contribute more.

Jacas is as strong as a bull as a rookie prospect, assuming Landry is ready or even limited to start this season OLB is arguably one of the deepest positions on the team.

This requires a little projection (imagination) with these young guys, but this regime has proven pretty good at finding rookie talent and developing it.

I've said it all along - Landry is washed. I could see it even when people were thinking his lots-of-falls-&-some-into-sacks first half last year - was him being dominant. No. He's mostly invisible. No serious push, no speed outside, not great at edge-setting in the run anymore either.

It's going to be Jones, Ponder, maybe Swinson, hopefully Jacas. But we need a decent vet, even if just for 50% snaps.
I'd certainly lean Clowney over Bosa (who also seems 1/2 of what he was)
