Lombardi believes Pats will trade Garoppolo to the Browns

No way their

I was literally about to post this exact same thing. Verbatim.

Hoyer isn't a guy you think of being "successful" but he's made the most of his talents and opportunity.
Hoyer is slightly better than a JAG but to say he is not sucessful is wrong.

If Cleveland has the first pick - and is willing to part with both the first pick of the SECOND round & another strong pick, either in 17 or 18, I think BB's gotta do some serious thinking.

If Cleveland offered this and bb could find a veteran free agent backup qb, then I think he has to move jimmy g to Cleveland.

To say Hoyer is a failure is wrong.

We are talking about a player who made a legit NFL career for himself. Not making the HoF or winning the SB does not make him a bum.
Dude he is a journeyman who had played a little. We were talking about proof that garapolo would be a better trade target because of what QBs developed under BB and tb have gone on to. If you are trading for Jimmy g as a backup who may do ok if he has to start hoyer is a wonderful example and mallet says buyer beware. That's not what we were talking about.
we are talking about good players not guys who worked very hard to get into the league and stick around

Final words here anyone trading fur Jimmy g will feel they were fleeced if they get the career of cassell, mallet or hoyer. I can't believe that is being disputed.

He is the epitome of a JAG BACKUP

We have a different view here.

We agree Hoyer is a JAG but to say he is not having a successful career I don't agree with at all.

I consider a successful QB to be one of the better starters in the NFL not a guy who can stick around.

At least Hoyer started a won a little.

Gary Kubiak and Don Strock hung around.

That's not what the team trading for garapolo is looking for. Neither is what cassell or mallett did. And it's not close.

If a team trades for Jimmy they are trading for a player who has done very well in limited action and has talent.

Good job avoiding what you are wrong about.

Missing in this "only 6 Quarters" stuff is the 12 preseason games he's played in. You can't fail but to make a performance chart out of those games, grading it from his rookie year. Since, BB rarely gives the backup QBs front line talent to work with, you can should be able to make a lot quality inferences from those games. Then compare those inferences to the actual "6 Quarters" and, IMO, you have enough information on whether (and by how much) he has improved since his first preseason game and whether those "only 6 Quarters" are a real showcase.

Garappolo is not Hoyer-Cassel and referencing them is changing the subject. Let's stick to Garappolo.

Because I'm not.
So you think that the careers of cassell, hoyer and mallett are proof that being a patriot backup is a good trade because of his awesome they have been?

No their accomplishments are. I never said that just being Pats increased their value. What I did say was they received excellent coaching and mentorship which helps maximize their potential as pros

Yes.

They might not be "accomplished" or have any "note worthy" performances but that's semantics.

I dont see many staffs that put out 3 decent back ups like that.

The evivdence says otherwise.

Who knows how to rate the guy at this point? Could be a marginal starter or could be a top QB. None of us know
Fair enough, but then I don't think you can talk about how people on this board overrate him. As you say, we don't know.

If you are talking about him as a top QB in this League for the next decade or 15 years or that he is good enough that you trade away Brady and keep him after this season, you are overrating him. He could be that some day. He certainly isn't that now.
