If Cam is the starter giving Him Julio Jones is like giving a subscription to Porn hub to a devote Monk.
Five years ago, JJones is worth a 1st + additional pick.

I think its okay. Let our Wide receivers develop further. I expect a significant break out year for Bourne and meyers.

As a overall offense we are far too versatile. I think there are two dark horses in our RB stable as well .. Stevenson and taylor.. so let's keep up the optimism. We don't need a legit WR1. One of our WR2 or wr 3 will step up. Besides the tight ends are huge upgrade . So if the qb play is a bit decent we are in with a chance with our ramming style offense...

It's a totally different situation than when we paid top dollar mid-season to hope to get one more playoff run for the dynasty, and that WR promptly got injured because of his idiot STs/WRs coach (with his HC's approval) and continued to suck because he was always a gravy-trainer.

Fify.

As others have speculated is more accurate. All we know is that the Pats didn't make the deal.

I guess what you're saying is that the correctness of a deal is only determined by whether or not Belichick made it. While he's of course owed respect for the Pats' success, he obviously can make mistakes, as I'm sure he'd be the first to say. There's also a difference between saying, "hmmm, I would have liked Julio Jones for a 2nd round draft pick, too bad, but I'll defer to Bill" and some of the whiplash here of...eh, he's damaged goods, WR isn't really a position of need, etc.

I think it's a valid criticism to speculate if Bill should have saved cap, especially with the FA WRs he signed. If he had only signed one of them would Julio have made more sense?

But with the hand now dealt, I defer to Bill.

BB reached for Sanu because AB screwed them over with his sociopathic behavior and Tom was complaining about not having vet weapons... they were “going all in” and trying to placate their star QB.

Wrong.

Let's see what his contract renegotiation looks like before we call this a cheap contract, because TEN can't afford to keep him without him agreeing to restructure which means he has the leverage to demand a new contract.
Fair I guess but he's on a cheap contract now. 15 and 12 per over the next few years I believe. I can't imagine going crazy for him. Plus if we're to believe him at face value, he wants to win. So there's potential for an easy compromise imo. Especially if Tennessee takes another step.
Let's also see if he can stay on the field. While a healthy JJ can help any team, I doubt the Pats think WR is a position of need after signing two new FA WRs.
I have np at all with a HOF player that misses a game or two every now and then. It's football, players get hurt and miss time. Jones is still an elite WR and immediately the best player on our team.

The last part of your post is a bit confusing considering by all indications they were in on Jones. WR has clearly been a point of emphasis the past few years.

We'll see how it works out.

This feels like it was a very do-able deal. I found myself objecting to the 2023 4th more than anything. I would really like to know if the Pats were ever really in on this player.

I think this is a good move for Tennessee. This puts them in the mix for competing/beating KC and Buffalo.

No it doesn’t.

Added Julio
Lost Davis and Smith

Pass defense isn’t good enough to compete with those teams, even if Farley recovers from back surgery and plays well as a rookie.

No it doesn’t.
The Titans just paid significant draft capital while losing salary cap flexibility for an ageing receiver who began showing signs of breaking down all going into a contract year WHILE letting their young, stud TE walk. Don't get me wrong, I would have been happy to add Jones but not at the cost the Titans paid and mortgaging the future for a potential one year deal with an extension first in place.

This doesn't move the needle for me with the Titans, they still have a handbrake at QB.

Yup. Sure is. He has the horrendous distinction of a 7-9 (2020) and 9-7 (2002). Can you imagine how much of a rip off BB is ?!!? I mean, if the coach can’t win more than BB, isn’t it time to move on ? Sure every other year since 2001, he’s won double digits, but still….

If that's your fall back, you don't have a fall back.

Consider that we can use the money to extend Gilmore and still have money left over, plus a 2022 draft pick. And, we still might add a player or two for the future at CB and WR.
They could, theoretically of course, have made the move and then reworked Jones' deal to free up the money needed for Gilmore and draft pick(s).

I think he’s got a few great seasons left in him but I don’t think he was the right move right now. I think Tennessee is looking at a window and wants to make the move right now, but IMO the Patriots are probably two years away from serious contention. I like this team, but Jones isn’t ready, and Newton sucks. I’ll still root for him to prove otherwise, but that’s unfortunately how I see it.

But it's NOT just Julio for a second round pick. It's Julio AND 3 draft picks (one of which is a 2nd), AND every dollar of his 15MM dollar salary AND another 2MM next year minimum, or an additional 14MM if you want to keep him for 2022.

Here's the thing that ultimately turned me away from Jones. He has made it clear though multiple channels that he not only wants to be paid EVERY dollar of his current contract, but expects to be paid even more in the future.

We saw what happened to another HOF worthy WR after he hit 31 in Randy Moss (who was out of the league at 33 IIRC) Julio is entering that age where HOF quality WR's become merely very good WR's, and then just as quickly become quality NFL starters making a lot more than their play reflects.

That would have been a HUGE risk for a team who is probably a year away from a true run at the championship. Loss of 3 draft picks, a big loss of cap space (this year and beyond). In a vacuum, I would love Julio here. No question he'd be big an upgrade to the WR room. But here's the thing. There has been a big uproar on the board for a "true #1 WR". But I would point out that this franchise has won 6 superbowls WITHOUT a "True #1 WR" and had been to another superbowl without one. In the brief 3 seasons WITH a "true #! wr" We managed only one superbowl appearance (though it should be noted that we only lost that one because copious omissions from the league appointed officials)

The Titans are a better team on paper than they were yesterday, of course, but they WILL have do some cap gymnastics to get him under the number. THey will also have to either redo his contract for MORE money long term, OR just keep him as a one year rental for 3 draft picks.

If the Titan go to the Superbowl this season then this move was a great one. If they don't.....then not so much. Time will tell. The biggest tell will be if during camp he looks like he has recovered his 2019 explosiveness. I'm sure we will all be watching, all our "I told you so's" ready regardless of where you stand on this move. ;)

In half a season, Julio Jones had 771 yards in 2020. That’s:
  • More than Kendrick Bourne’s career high
  • More than Jakobi Meyers career high
  • (Way) More than K’Keal Harry’s career high
  • Not that far off from Nelson Algohor’s ($12M) huge breakout season in 2020 (Algohor played in every game)
  • Almost 2x as many yards as Jonnu Smith’s ($12.5M) career high (Smith is a TE but more known for WR skills)
But now I guess it’s time to knock Jones for no longer being good while discussing value and dollars, while doing cartwheels for all the huge splash signings of much lesser players.

Only clarification I'll make here is that they're not giving up three draft picks. They're giving up the 2nd and the 4th, but getting back a 6th. So it's one draft pick and a day three swap.

Great non-trade for the Patriots. A 2nd and a 4th for Julio and a 6th is just way too much. Glad they stayed away. We’re absolutely stacked at WR anyway. BB, as usual, playing chess while the rest of the league plays checkers.

1. Warren Sharp is a troll. (a pretty smart one)
2. If the titans REALLY wanted Julio they would've traded a 1st for him.
Sharp is a known Patriots hater. Dolphins fan I think
