Jimmy G over 380 yards today (week 15)

Looks like Jimmy was mic'd up for this game. Can't wait for soundfx this week!

He seems to have found a home for himself. I don’t know how often Brady returns to the Bay area, but I’m sure the next time he goes he will see a lot of #10 jerseys around town. I hope he takes pride in it, as he must’ve had a lot to do in Jimmy’s growth and development.

He's going to be a pretty good quarterback in this league. It's a shame that he wasn't 3-4 years younger to where we maybe could have drafted him this year and had him eventually take over for Brady. It would have been exceptionally difficult to keep both, though, and the Patriots made the right move. They're built to win now and Brady has not slowed down (in spite of what some in the GDT will tell you).

That reminds me a lot like RGIII season.
1. Teams are not used to play against him.
2. 49rs Played against 3 bad teams.

Two of those three sentences are pretty spot on but that RG3 thing is silly.

JG is a vintage pocket passer that can do all throws while RG3 was running a college-level gimmick offense and never showed anything that would convince you that he could be a pocket passer. With more gametape out teams will most certainly find some weak spots in his game so I would take his success so far with a grain of salt but comparing him to RG3 is asinine.

That is disconcerting if BB and company thought trading TB was the right move and Kraft stopped it.

Except this take comes from the land of Yetis, Bigfoots and UFOs. None of it is real..

There is no way Brady is playing another 3 or 4 years. MAX 2 more years.

Every year since 2014... but dont worry in one of the upcoming years you will finally be correct. Maybe.

Depends on how much the issue of the Achilles is really affecting him. He was playing lights out before that report surfaced so I would have to think that the Achilles (on top of nobody that can reliably and consistently break open out of their routes quickly) is truly the issue here. That's why the bye week is paramount.

Difficult to say because coincidentally the OL has regressed a bit in pretty much the same window of time as well. When he gets the time to throw he looks great, he also looks great sidestepping and navigating in the pocket if there is space created by the lineman.

I wouldn't say it's the whole OL either. Thuney has been a major, MAJOR weak spot in pass pro in recent weeks. Andrews hasn't looked great either, but it's tough to tell how much of that is truly on Andrews and how much of it is because he's trying to help Thuney as well. Thuney should be able to recover and get over whatever is plaguing him this year. He's was exceptionally reliable in 2016 and throughout half of 2017 as well. I have to wonder if he's nursing some sort of nagging injury.

Don’t be shocked one day if you see him wearing one... one day

The good news for the Patriots is that BB seems pretty good at finding QBs. Ignoring his drafting of the GOAT in the 6th round.

For the past 10 years, other than Mallet, who didn't amount to anything:
UFDA Hoyer: 37 starts, probably only Browns starting QB with a winning record since they were reincarnated
7th round Cassel: Didn't even play in college. 81 NFL starts
3rd round Brisset: After one year behind Brady became Colts starter. 15 starts
late 2nd round JG: Division 2 college QB to future NFL HOFer

Does anyone have a better track record of finding an developing QBs?

Basically if BB ever picks a QB in the 1st(even high 2nd with the JG pick) and lets him set behind Brady you can pretty much start casting HOF bust.

Yeahbut... totally failed to develop Rohan Davey. As any April poster will tell you, BB can’t draft for ****.

Brady got by just fine without JE, Mitchell and Hogan. Could JG do the same in this system? I have my doubts.

Considering the JG is getting along just fine with worse players than Brady(even without JE, Mitchell, and Hogan) the answer is either clearly yes. Or the Patriots offensive system really sucks.

In fact not only is JG playing with worse players, he also has a limited playbook due to missing training camp. So if the Pats system is worse than a limited playbook 49ers offense...

The 49ers are not the Patriots. His performance there has little relevance to how he’d do here if not zero.

Glad he’s doing well... but I highly doubt he’ll be this “amazing” QB that some of us think he will be. He wasn’t with us for sure. The Patriots let him go for a good reason, they can and will do better when the time comes to replace Brady IMO.

They also kept him halfway through 2017 for good reason. That goes both ways.

That is true. He was a great insurance policy if needed.

But they moved on and went with the 40 year old with a limited number of years left, and IMO I don’t blame them.

If JG plays well with worse players than the Pats have and with no offseason to learn the system the only logical conclusion is he would play better here.

Unless you want to argue that Pats have a crap offensive system and McDaniels and BB suck as coaches?

The Patriots let him go because they had Brady. And they couldn't keep both JG and Brady. Even if you think JG is as good as Brady(something I am not claiming), keeping Brady can make sense because a Super Bowl win with Brady is worth more than a Super Bowl win with JG. Because a Super Bowl win with Brady makes history.

Basically would you rather have 6 Brady Super Bowls, or 5 Brady SBs and 2 JG SBs?

There is also the fact that BB is basically the QB whispherer.

Will be interesting to pull this thread back up in 5 years.

No not necessarily. There's been lots of players productive on bad teams who were not so productive when on good teams. Even if JG goes 15-40, 1 TD 4 INT in his next game that will not change my opinion one bit, and how he does there had no relevance at all to how he'd do here.

I'm not saying the guy sucks, that would be stupid. My problem with him here is that I was not impressed with his durability and the fact he failed to give his team 4 games when his team really needed him. And forced the team to play a crippled Brissett in game 4 after he apparently led the team to believe he could play. I think his contribution here in the time he did play was a pleasant surprise but at no point was it "amazing" (like some of us on this board are quoted as saying.)

I think he's a good - perhaps very good - QB and he is a legit NFL starter. His durability will be a problem IMO. I also think the Patriots can and will find someone better to be the long term heir to Brady.

If Belichick honestly believed that JG is the next Steve Young - don't think for a second that they wouldn't have found a way to keep both guys somehow. It seems clear to me he had a different opinion and that's why they chose the 40 year old Brady with only a few years left vs the 26 year old with lots of upside.

IMO.
