It has nothing to do with when they were drafted (other than the obvious higher opinion you had when you drafted one higher)I will say, the favor of starting Mac due to any sort of draft capital prestige decreases in value as time goes on. We're learning more and more about Mac each week. I don't care who starts I just want to see us win games. If that means Zappe smells blood in the water then so be it.
Jones clearly can develop into a good NFL QB. Whether he will or not remains to be seen. One mistake filled game doesn’t really move the needle until it becomes frequent mistake filled games.
My distant view (and let’s be clear no one can truly evaluate a player and his potential, growth needs and ceiling effectively without interacting with them consistently) is that he needs to develop a better understanding of the concepts, and approach the offense is built around. He just seems to me to not have a clear vision of what he is trying to do and how to react to obstacles he runs into. He seems a beat late recognizing, and acting. That is coachable. I think it was clear in his rookie year that there were handcuffs built into the game plan to have him limit risk and coach him away from risky decisions. Last year there was a much greater emphasis on making plays down the field and part of the coaching resulted in him abandoning plays too early and running around.
I think OBrien has a clear vision of what he wants Jones to be but it takes work and reps to instill it.
Putting Zappe in is just giving up.
