There needs to be much more acknowledgment of the fact that Brady ultimately makes the play call at the LoS. McD may send in a 2-4 item "menu" of plays for Brady to select from, but McD doesn't make the final decision on which play actually gets run or who Brady decides to target. The game plan may have been for the offense to use Gordon mostly as a decoy to draw off the DBs, and then to attack the LBs with other guys ... and Brady simply went a different way.

Pretty much. Josh calls the play with the appropriate personnel grouping/package. No ifs, ands or buts there. However based on the presnap Tom can check out of that specific play but it needs to be a play within that package Josh dialed up. Based on the coverage, Tom can change the formation and who the primary read is.

I truly believe Vrable and Pees knew what JMD and Tom were going to do and because they did not have elite talent on the field, they were not good enough to overcome it.
