Hobbs bashes the Patriots and accuses players of faking injuries (merged)

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

You might be right. Sometimes when he was playing with us I'd see a wide receiver zoom by him and I'd say to myself." Damn, Ellis looks like hes playing with two broken legs!"

You're not too far from the truth, since he did play with a torn shoulder and a hernia, knowing that we had no secondary depth if he couldn't play.

It's silly to demonize Hobbs just for saying anything critical of the Pats. The guy didn't leave with an agenda, wanted to stay, and has said way more positive things about the team than he has criticized it.

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

Hobbs was a starter on this team because Belichick and maybe one or two other people wanted him there. For all the **** he takes, most of a football team isn't going to be the best at their position in the league, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be there.

And the guy did play hard through injuries and contributed plenty of good plays that helped the team win on a bunch of occasions.

Dismissing him and what he says is pretty easy to do from the internet, where a torn labrum and sports hernia won't prevent you from pretending you know the first thing about the game of football, because a torn labrum and sports hernia are easy to do anything with, especially cover the fastest, most agile people on the planet and prevent them from catching a football.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling anyone to stop ****ting on Ellis Hobbs, because when the guy opened his mouth he asked for a negative response, and no one forced him to say what he said.

But that doesn't change what some of you clearly want us to think you are: way less impressive people than Ellis Hobbs III.

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

It was also just a general b!tch session because he's not a starter. Hobbs is what he is but he's not what he thinks he is. That doesn't mean none of what he said is true, I imagine there's some truth to it - but Hobbs isn't in the best frame of mind right now.

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

He should know about faking.. He's been faking he's an NFL cornerback his whole career.

...."I'm not an NFL cornerback, but I play one on Sunday TV."

Dissing his comments IS easy from the internet....HOWEVER, his comments are easy to say from the comfort of his Philly locker room too....

I respect what he did as a corner for us, but comments like his make me wanna smack his face from my side of the internet.

Ellis, Shut your mouth, and do your job!

There was nothing wrong with his comments.

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

I always liked Ellis. Still do. He is what he is : an excellent kick returner who should be a backup CB. No crime in that.

I'm not gonna bash Hobbs. He's not nearly as good as he thinks he is - but he's exactly what I think he is.

This would be as classless as Belichick saying

"We traded Ellis Hobbs because we think he is a 7th round talent playing at the level of an XFL castoff. We got more than we asked for in a 5th rounder from Philly."

now...I know thats why we traded him, and I know thats what was going through the mind of the Patriots when they shipped off their remaining starting corner for a mid-late round pick.....

but nobody said that.

Its classless, plain and simple, by a guy who should know better. Sounds like hes getting advice from Terry Glenn...or D-I-D get advice from her.

Anyone else find it disturbing that Hobbs is spending all his time talking about his former team and not his current team?

Where are you getting this? Did you read his comments?

I played with a torn labrum in my shoulder and a sports hernia. Not one day did I shut it down. I was a starter and on special teams, and I did anything that was required. Guys were dogging it and tanking it sometimes. I mean, put it out there, some guys were faking injuries and getting a certain amount of dollars."

Nothing there is 'classless'. Frankly, if it's true, it's something ownership and the staff needs to eliminate. It's also true that he played with all sorts of injuries and the fans crucified him if his play suffered even slightly as a result. The man was playing the Super Bowl with multiple injuries and was left on an island against a much bigger receiver and still did a solid job for most of that game, yet Hobbs gets pummeled because of Manning to Burress for the touchdown on an all-out blitz where the other 10 guys failed to get to the QB.

"The trade was beneficial for me, because I started going down the wrong path," Hobbs said. "There were going to be plenty of problems there. When it happened, it was more of a relief for me. I felt like I didn't get my just due when I was there, but I'm one of many that didn't get their just due there. It has happened before, and it won't stop. I was just one guy before the next guy."

What's 'classless' there? Are there not problems/issues with contracts here right now? Have players here not been unable to get their "just due" and been forced to go elsewhere for it? Do we not talk about BB just plugging in the next player and the team not missing much of a beat?

It's gonna be funny watching all the (former) Ellis Hobbs ball washers turn on him in here.

I've been telling you guys that he was a scrub for years.

I guess I was one of those ballwashers....I fully admit he never made that leap that I had hoped but that doesn't mean he didn't give us everything he had. He had a really good rookie year and played hurt year 2 and I expected him to make a jump that never came but he always played hard and thru injuries not every player on the field is going to be nasty.

I wish he wouldn't make comments like this but really the big problem I see with the comment is that I am sure there is truth to it and I just hope it isn't pervasive.

Its classless to call out players for past injuries that he had no diagnosis on. Its classless to say this kind of thing to the media, all the while pimping himself up. I think he has great speed, and fluid hips and is a good corner. But there is no need to say that kind of thing.

He isn't a patriot any longer, so I have no use for him.....especially if he is going to bash players that might still be on our roster as soft without manning up for any of it. Call a guy out or something....being vague about it makes the trainers, coaches and team sound like they are shadow working liars.

bottom line, like I said....He needs to STFU, handle his biz, and everything should be okay.

Ok, now you're just not making any sense at all. Not even a little. Sorry.

I'm starting to think that hes calling out Troy Brown. As you may recall, #80 has been critical of Hobbs on Comcast Sports Net. Troy didnt see much field time with the Pats in 06 and 07...Just thinking...

Werd.

Here I disagree DI. Boddin is a clear #1 and a big upgrade.
At least, he should be. And he better be, or we're in trouble.

At best Hobbs would be the #2, and even there I think Wilhite has shown he has the skills to go by him, just not the experience.
Perhaps he is indeed the 2nd coming of ***ante, perhaps (or probably) not; only time will tell.

Hobbs ideal position IMHO would be the inside slot CB, the nickel back, who is a virtual starter. He had neither the size nor strength to deal, on a consistent basis, with the bigger outside WRs in the league right now. Unfortunately BB never had the CB depth to put him in that position.
Agreed, on all 3 points.

Hobbs earned EVERY dollar he got in his stay. He gave 100% at CB, plus was one of the best KO returners in the league. He was a VALUE pick.
Agreed. We still don't know who will replace him on KOs; certainly not Matty (they traded UP in the 5TH round for who?!?) Slater.

But as its been mentioned, he had an inflated opinion of his own worth, and was traded, BEFORE it became an issue.
I don't see how it would've become an issue; it's not like he had ***ante's track record or reputation.

If used as the nickel, I think he'll do well in Philly, however when it comes to getting the big bucks when his contract ends, I think he'll be disappointed with the offers he gets.
Agreed.

In the meantime, the Pats are better situated at CB than they have been in the BB era.
The 2001 SB winners - Ty Law, O-T-I-S, Terrell Buckley, Terrence Shaw & Antwan Harris - are the best CB group of the decade, IMHO.

He must have been talking about Rodney. We all know what a ***** he was.

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

Maybe Asante told Hobbs to stop licking Belichick's nuts every time there's a mic in front of him

Re: Hobbs: "guys were faking injuries"

Hobbs really should shut his mouth. Who the hell did he think he was? He sucked. He was the worst corner on the field, IMHO. How many times did we see mediocre Qbs pick on his arse. What a loser. He's making enemies today.
I'm sure that there are a few Patriot players that are not happy with him right now. You got traded. Get over it and move on. Philly is not paying you to run your mouth.

Ya Deltha was better
