Because once tweaked they’re hard to get rid of, and easily reinjured, it’s important to make sure they’re completely healed before pushing them hard. What's unfortunate and pretty unforgivable is that hamstring injuries are easily prevented. The primary causes are muscular imbalance (addressed by offseason conditioning/strength training) and not warming up properly before going full speed. Once tweaked they're very hard to get rid of, especially if it's the former. I hope the team's training staff wasn't asleep on what Gonzalez needed to get done before training camp.
That also makes warming up properly very important. Of course if the original cause was not properly warming up it’s likely that will be repeated, and the healing injury tweaked again.
It could be a long season. Let’s hope the training staff gets Gonzo straightened out before he tries going at game speed again.
