Patriots Injury News Gonzalez Could Be Gonzo for Week 1

There really is such a thing as an injury-prone player. The more "athletic" the player, the more injury-prone he can be, it sometimes seems. It's too early perhaps to say that Gonzales fits that pattern, but he has now missed a pretty substantial portion of his time here, a sufficient portion that it just might not be mere "bad luck."

Gonzo will be critical to whether or not this defense has the chance to be really good this year. Besides Maye, no other players health makes or breaks our entire season.

I don’t feel great about the secondary if he can’t stay healthy. Davis has proven far too unreliable as a CB1.
Agreed. For some reason I feel like we will be seeing a lot of DJ James, and Austin.. I'm not confident Gonzo is playing week 1.. he hasn't practiced in 3 weeks..

I can't wait to see this team put it all together on the field.
I'm not that worried about Geno or Jeanty or Meyers. I think Bowers will cause problems though.
Maxx will be scary on either OT, but the rest of their D is not. Ex-Pats Butler & Roberts starting.
Maye should be able to carve up their secondary if the OL can protect.

Is DJ good to go week 1?

I see no reason not to believe Tommy DeVito doesn't have what it takes to be a ProBowl Corner.

The man’s been in like every single Patriots social media thing, has traveled for joint practices and games, out in street clothes for practices, I’m hoping it’s just been cautionary buying him much time as possible before he gets out to practice next week.

Is anyone concerned about the comments Vrabel made earlier in the week about you can only ride the bike for so long and eventually you have to put the pads on and test it?

Could absolutely be a sign of growing tension.

I guarantee former players like Mike are annoyed with the current players getting paid as much as they do, but find ways to take games/practices off.

We had Gronk. I remember lurking on this board in the early 2010's and people denying that he was an injury prone player until it was just undeniable. It happens. Some people just have an issue staying on the field. Not all humans are built the same and some can't take the same punishment and bounce back resiliently.

What's unfortunate and pretty unforgivable is that hamstring injuries are easily prevented. The primary causes are muscular imbalance (addressed by offseason conditioning/strength training) and not warming up properly before going full speed. Once tweaked they're very hard to get rid of, especially if it's the former. I hope the team's training staff wasn't asleep on what Gonzalez needed to get done before training camp.

You can't make the club from the tub.

It will be interesting to see how the Patriots approach a contract extension with him in the offseason.

How much? Length? Bonuses?

Depends on what happens. If he misses time and struggles, I’d delay it.

This is my concern is his agent has him making business decisions until they give him a contract extension. Sauce Gardner for the Jets did it last season, tackling wasn’t a priority. I hope I’m wrong on this but Vrabels comments earlier in the week just concerned me.

Gonzalez spends a lot of time on the trainers table

You ever rode a bike for to long? It's brutal. Uncomfortable in spots you don't want to be uncomfortable. And the chafing.
