Patriots Injury News Gonzalez Could Be Gonzo for Week 1

What's unfortunate and pretty unforgivable is that hamstring injuries are easily prevented. The primary causes are muscular imbalance (addressed by offseason conditioning/strength training) and not warming up properly before going full speed. Once tweaked they're very hard to get rid of, especially if it's the former. I hope the team's training staff wasn't asleep on what Gonzalez needed to get done before training camp.
Because once tweaked they’re hard to get rid of, and easily reinjured, it’s important to make sure they’re completely healed before pushing them hard.

That also makes warming up properly very important. Of course if the original cause was not properly warming up it’s likely that will be repeated, and the healing injury tweaked again.

It could be a long season. Let’s hope the training staff gets Gonzo straightened out before he tries going at game speed again.

Is anyone concerned about the comments Vrabel made earlier in the week about you can only ride the bike for so long and eventually you have to put the pads on and test it?
I'm not, speaking for myself. Vrabel's IMO more like Parcells to me. His coaching style and how he interacts with the media. We all knew and expected there to be change. This is reset. And redirection. Vrabel's likely looks at it like who are the long term guys? Who are the guys that will be here once this thing gets rolling.

Everyone comes into Boston a certain way and then they quickly find out that Boston has the worst sports media in America. 5 years from now we'll see a Vrabel who is 100% the opposite when it comes to sports media.

I’ll be happy if 5 years from now we see Vrabel.

Period. Don’t care how he’s dealing with media.

If we still see him five years from now it means he’s been successful at putting out the dumpster fire and lighting some bonfires.

This is my concern is his agent has him making business decisions until they give him a contract extension. Sauce Gardner for the Jets did it last season, tackling wasn’t a priority. I hope I’m wrong on this but Vrabels comments earlier in the week just concerned me.
Those hamstrings can be long term issues. Of course gonzo wants to get paid, however the position he plays, the style he plays with, he needs to be able to be loose. Once we left the camp practice with the injury I felt strongly that this could linger into the season. Feeling like Alex Austin will be playing week 1.. opposite Davis.

You can't forever flip your coaches, especially if you don't know what you're doing. The Bills tried that for 30 years. The Jets are still doing it.

You have to get a guy who has a plan and sticks to it, even through 4-13 seasons. Otherwise, you're forever lost in the wilderness.

He is now teetering on the Gronk Precipice. Going from superstar to great player....when he plays. Emphasis on 'when'.

I agree. But does ownership? And how is that affected when there is a new guy at the top? Does he stick with Daddy’s choice or install his own choice halfway through the window of stability?

Big concerns

I'm looking at Gonzo out from 1 through 4 weeks best case scenario. He's not practicing anything, even when cleared will still need to get some conditioning.

Gotta love how we can see hundreds of millions of dollars go through a team, trillions of dollars in healthcare and its research, make incredible advancements in surgery and recovery, yet we're still like "damn... Hamstrings are complicated AF. Who knows lol we'll see."

Was very disappointed when he got hurt last year. Disappointed again. He’s one of the few truly valuable pieces this team has in place.

The most overrated Patriot played 16 of 17 games last season, and the Defense sucked. “El Softy” missed most of his rookie season, but the defense was hardly the reason for that 4-13 season. He’s one player. Trade him for someone who doesn’t milk soft tissue injuries to bide time to a contract extension.

Should have given Guerrero the keys to the franchise

Big concerns
I'd be more concerned if we had Davis and gonzo both out. Austin will be up to the challenge. Davis on the other side. Most importantly it's the front 7. If they are causing havoc up front like I expect them too. The secondary will be greatly aided.
