Admendola for Revis straight up?
And resign Edelman?

DRC = Doesn't Really Care

Brandon Browner = overrated (suspended for the first four games of 2014)

Can Browner play the last 4 games of the season?

That "DRC = doesn't really care" has had seasons of the following in terms of passes defended in 5/6 years:

19
17
17
25
19

I don't believe there's been any CB who has had more passes defended in the past 2 years with 36 (19 and 17). If there are any CBs who have more than 36 passes defended in 2012/2013, they are few and far between.

His INTs have been the following as well in 5/6 seasons:

3
3
3
6
4

If you want to take it one step further, he's actually scored TD's in 4/6 seasons off of those turnovers.

The main problem with DRC is that he doesn't care to tackle too much, and that's a problem in a Bill Belichick coached defense. I wouldn't question his coverage ability nearly as much as some here do, however.

DRC is soft as Charmin.

If DRC was that good, Denver would have re-signed Doesn't Really Care.

Can we lock some posters in the practice squad?

Your comment is rude and completely off base if the rumor is all it would take is a fifth, why not dangle Danny if Bill is really ready to move on from him.
You tell me why that's completely off base and and how this has no sensible chance of happening.
Clearly he is worth a 5th round pick at the very least to some teams.

Problem is the pats would be trading for his contract which is 16m per year. Once they trade for him they can't really demand he take a pay cut. Amendola has a not so cheap contract for a guy who is injured a lot. So he has no value in a trade. If Revis is cut the pats might sign him if he's willing to play for reasonable money.

Problem is if he's cut he's a Jet now instead of competing against him twice a year you take him and make Rexs D that much Weaker as well as rattle his manhood.
One team I see as a dark horse to find a way to land Revis Niners.

What the over under on how many weeks for Ward to knock Talib out for the season?

We are NINE HOURS into a 5 month free agency period. It is not surprising that the patriots haven't signed anyone. Denver has a different approach. They sign top players early. Our strategy would have worked fine last year if we had a couple fewer injuries to top players.

There were only about 4-5 contracts signed all day that we would have wanted the patriots to sign. And even for those, we don't know how much it would have taken for the player to sign for the patriots.

The only free agent we've lost is Talib, and we wouldn't have dreamed of giving someone with a chronic hip problem $26M of guaranteed money. We are not happy about the free agent market for corners. This is a critical situation. Belichick will sign someone or two.

The WR market is soft. We're still talking to Edelman and his friendly agent. There are also several other options and little reason to panic at that position. This is OK news.

We don't want Spikes back, and a couple of teams are talking about Fletcher competing for a starting role. Absent injuries, Fletcher is a special teamer for us. In any case, he's likely gone. And Belichick is moving on, first to Woodyard. This is OK news.

And as for the rest, it is business as usual. The patriots are not signing ridiculous contracts. We haven't overspent.

The patriots will likely spend $20M on free agents. The question is who. What we have found out is that there won't be any top money players signed unless we sign Revis. This is fine with most of us, although we would have liked a couple of the Day One contracts.

He has to agree to a pay cut to come to new england. They can't make him. If you trade a pick then you get his contract and it's too expensive. If he wants to go to the Jets he'll just refuse trades get cut and go there. I don't know if they have room for him cap wise. He'll probably go to whomever pays him the most.

DRC is soft as Charmin.

As I noted, he does not like contact or coming up to tackle too well. That obviously does not equate to a Bill Belichick coached defense, but it should be noted that he's more than adequate in coverage, and that has not been represented very well in recent comments.

In other words, we could do worse. Hell, we have done worse plenty of times before, and currently have worse in the secondary at the moment. I'm not saying that I necessarily want him here, but for some to claim that he's no good all around simply isn't true. He's proven to be just fine in many coverage instances.

The beat writers are already starting to throw around names that aren't any better, so it's probably all about value at this point. They may as well just throw darts at a board....and choose another CB in the draft as well.

If DRC was that good, Denver would have re-signed Doesn't Really Care.

Why, because no other capable NFL players have ever left their teams in free agency before? It's possible they decided to spend the money on TJ Ward and Talib just the same. There's no relationship to how good a player is to whether or not they stay with their original team in free agency. That's silly.

Presumably any trade would be contingent on a restructure, which I would assume is what he's coming to New England to discuss ( if Clayton's right)

You're simply guessing. Revis might want to play for a contender for his next contract.

If another team gives up a draft pick in trade between now and the next 15 hrs, Revis will go where ever he has to. It isn't like he has a lot of input. What the hell does he care? He'd be getting his 16 million no matter what.

If no one trades for him and he's an outright cut, then he can pick and choose, and have a lower salary in the process. He'd then likely go to the highest bidder OR a contender if he chooses.

Maybe but I'm not disputing that. I'm saying logically he'd be smarter to get cut and then negotiate freely. Teams may be willing to pay more if they don't have to give up a pick.

Exactly. So if the pats don't want to pay 16m then why trade for him? If he's willing to take a cut in pay then just wait to be cut and be free.

You must have been away all day, and just got a few reports, because there were a hell of a lot more than 4-5 contracts that would have been good signings for the Patriots.

I'm not sure why you, and some others, expect people to be happy with what happened today. Being pissed off about what unfolded is a perfectly reasonable response. Is it early enough that the Patriots can make moves to really strengthen the team? Sure.

Was losing Talib to the Broncos a major blow? Has Denver, the Patriots main rival in the AFC, made the kind of moves that reasonable Patriots fans would like to see from N.E.? Hell yes.

Also, bottom feeding in free agency is like trading down in the draft. All the extra 'picks' in the world don't mean anything if you're using them to bring in the Ras I Dowlings or Jermaine Cunninghams or Mike Jenkins's or Donald Jones's or (insert bust here)s of the world.
