Free Agent Signings around the League

I'm hoping we re-sign Meriweather and Chung. They've probably gotten a lot better since we let them go, let's get our vaunted 09 secondary back for one more run!!

But seriously, today is typically "Overpay for Big Names" Day. I'd be happier if we re-signed Edelman already, but I am glad we didn't go crazy on other players.

Florio is reporting that the Broncos are concerned that Jared Allen will want more than they are willing to pay. Good for the Pats that he won't sign with them, but bad for them because he can be scratched off the Pats' list of potential signees too.

Per a league source, the Broncos definitely have interest in the former Chiefs and Vikings standout. However, the concern is that he wants too much money.
Allen?s price could be too high for the Broncos | ProFootballTalk

Insurance until they restructure Wilfork. I think if they find another DT they like like say Randy Starks or Wilfork redoes his contract, he will be released.

Fair point, but I would think that cutting Sopoaga is a given, no matter what happens with Wilfork. If cutting Wilfork means you have to forego the chance to cut Sopoaga and save another $2M, then you're basically flushing $2M of the $7.5M Wilfork savings down the toilet right out of the gate.

Welcome to the dark side. Careful now lest you get labeled a "second guesser".

Nah,Kontra...you know I swing first and ask questions later. I still maintain that O line and D line interiors are early round musts but I am 100% on board with the idea that we need to insert physicality into this secondary. I mean, look at Gregory....he has a lot of heart but he's STILL CB trying to play a SS type free safety. It just lowers the fear level to opposing offenses knowing if the safety makes a hard hit it may be HIM carried off.

Sherman may have gotten all the pub in that Super Bowl but Chancellor MADE the hit that changed that game early.I want THAT...bad.

Lady T and Deion Branch on NFLN right now...hopefully they start cat fighting

Bethea, Mitchell, Ward, Whitner and Jenkins have all signed. Byrd is better than all of them. He may be visiting NO, but he is still out there.

He wants $9M a season. I cannot see us paying that.

I honestly think that the most inexplicable fact of the day is that Sopoaga is still a Patriot. Is there any reason not to have cut him yet?

Perhaps no need to cut him until the cap room is needed. Wouldn't it be possible to keep him until 6/1 then split the hit over 2 years? Since we need money to sign rookies, he could be a placeholder for that.

I went to college with Jared. He just text me that he’s going to New England.

From the PFT comments section, so it must be gospel.

Realistically most of the players mocked on here are still in play -

- Edelman
- Talib
- Revis
- Blount
- Sanders
- Rice
- Chandler
- Dietrich-Smith
- Peppers
- Allen
- Woodward
- Verner
- DeCoud

Outside of Ward and Arthur Jones nobody that signed were mentioned much.

I'd rather have d ware or any of the secondary players named Talib
Revis Verner Byrd.
He would be interesting on a two year deal on the other side of Chandler Jones a vicious old Vet fighting desperately for a ring.
Would be interesting.

They don't have to that amount of money is what they generally roll over so they probably figure give him a shot in camp. I think he was injured last season and it was not spoken of so it appeared that he had lost his ability. He is still relatively young at 32 years old and he was productive in 2012 with SF.

I'm surprised there isn't more interest in Henry Melton. He's coming back from injury so he should be a good deal.

Agreed, he's a super disruptive athlete. I dunno if Belichick would tolerate a lineman who has no concept of gap control, but I think the disruption that he creates is more than worth it.
