My guess is Reed goes where the most $$$ is offered.

We have the cash, but, is there anything left in his legs (and hip)??

Seems to me that for red zone alone (where the need for speed is no acute) and his knowledge he would be a huge benefit. However, I am sure NE is all over this and will sign him if there is a good chance that he can still contribute.

If we do sign him, I would feel really good about it.

That is how i feel also ... first I heard about him being released i posted red zone material.

I'd be very surprised if Reed chose to make his finale and go out as a Jet. I also doubt Reed would sign with the Jets just because Ryan would stroke his shaft. You can argue the latter about BB as well, but at least the Pats are a contending team, while the Jets are.... well.... - the Jets...

As much as we rag on the jets, I don't think it's that bad of a spot. He's had plenty of success in that style of defense. I don't remember who they have back there at safety but, jets are in the playoff race and Ryan has done well the few times they've backed into the playoffs. Gotta think he's coming here if its between jersey and foxboro. Seems like they have a mutual respect like BB had with Ocho. Would love to have two elite ball hawking free safeties back there with Dmac already here, too bad we never had a shot at prime Reed. Would take prime Reed anyday over prime Polamalu.

If you play defense I would think playing for Rex Ryan would be a good thing some would want ... but I think their record and chances would work against and goodwill that Rex has with players who play D ... we make fun of Rex ... but he can coach D with the best in the game right now.

Coming into the defense at the mid-point and doing well isn't impossible for a vet DB; the Pats picked up Artrell Hawkins on Nov. 16, 2005 and he stabilized the secondary starting from the next game on. Made the switch from corner to SS at the same time.

Likely many here remember Hank Poteat as well, and he was signed in January. Was signing up for classes at a community college when his agent notified him if I recall correctly.

Hard to imagine Ed Reed would be more at sea than those two players.

If Belichick thinks it may be worth it, I'm all for it. I think Ed Reed may be a different player than 5 seasons ago though. To what extent is debatable.

This is from 2009 though, as seen in "A football life--Bill Belichick." You can see Brady's hair is long etc.

I'm not saying that comments weren't made in the past season or so, and I'm sure they both have a lot of respect for him still. I don't know how much he has left in the tank, but I'm sure there's something in there. Hopefully Belichick makes the right call.

I never believed that they'd be lucky to win 2-3 games like so many predicted, although I also never envisioned a 5-4 record after nine games either. I expected something around 7-9 or so myself.

I have respect for Ryan as a defensive coach for sure, and I don't want to admit this but I'd probably just rather play someone else in the postseason instead. Facing a division rival with a very tough defense is just tempting fate in my opinion, although I think our offense would perform better the 3rd time around.

Oh hell, I can easily walk downtown at any given time and see Ed Reed 3 or 4 times throughout my day. He's especially prevalent at the local food pantries in any major city throughout the United States.

I heard that the patriots were in play, but that was from Gugurian's article citing someone close to reed. :bricks:

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the jets. I don't think ed reed was too happy that brady tried to spike him in last year's afcccg. he blamed brady for his offseason hip surgery.
