Deandre Hopkins Visiting Patriots Next Week

a 2 day visit vs. a 1 day for Tennessee bodes well, no?

I wonder if it's as simple as he's flying in later on Wednesday so they might have dinner or something but the bulk of the visit will be on Thursday. I can't imagine they need two full days to talk things over, either there will be mutual interest or there won't be.

We found the actual travel agent!

Nobody should be worried about cap ramifications as they have plenty of money and hardly any big contracts. Bill signed Agholor and Smith to terrible contracts and it didn't cripple their cap.

Hopkins isn't going to get more than 2 years or at least he shouldn't.

LOL. I think they are out of business?

Looks like the closest one to us here is now in Hamburg, over an hour away... The same Hamburg that hosted the All-Star Wresting program with ring announcer Joe McHugh during the 1970s... There was one in Lancaster that I would occasionally patronize if I had to drive the kids & their friends to practice near there; but a year or two before they went off to college it changed to a Dunkin' Donuts, which did me no good at 7pm...

Yup. Flew into Nashville Sunday night and then spent the day at the team’s facility yesterday. “Two days” with the Pats probably means the same thing.

$10M - $15M guaranteed is not close to enough to sign Hopkins. That being said, I could see us guaranteeing $30M.

Disagree. If a team was going to give him 20 million per he would have been signed by now. Why would they wait if they have the $$& and want him that bad? I do think it will be around 15 per, and the Oatriits can make that work out if they want to.

I certainly hope that you are right, and that the deal will be for about $15M.

In any case, I think that both sides wanted to have Hopkins test the market, before more serious negotiations could take place.

I predict the headline will be something like $45m over 3 years, but the fine print will mean it's more like an 18 month or 2-year contract.
fine print?

I agree that the deal should be effectively a 2 year deal. They could add void years, or there could be a $20M bonus before the 3rd year. Wither would make the deal a 2 year deal. The bonus would be decided based on how much cap the team wants in this year. I would expect the 2 years to be fully guaranteed, plus added bones.

Hopkins knows what he can get from TEN. He should be able to decide on Thursday.

fine print?

There are guarantees and there are guarantees. Some so-called guarantees only kick in under certain circumstances (like has to be on the active roster at some date). The player and his agent want the headline numbers to look good, and often the team is willing to oblige.

The team basically wants as much as possible to be incentive-driven, and the player wants as much as possible guaranteed in all circumstances.

OBJ basically set the ballpark outline here. He got $15m guaranteed, with another $3m in possible incentives, with targets that all seem a stretch to reach the full $3m:

Receptions

  • $250,000 for 30+ catches
  • $500,000 for 40+ catches
  • $750,000 for 50+ catches
  • $1 million for 60+ catches or if he leads the team in receptions

Receiving yards

  • $250,000 for 250+ yards
  • $500,000 for 500+ yards
  • $750,000 for 750+ yards
  • $1 million for 1,000+ yards of he leads the team in receiving yards

Touchdown catches

  • $250,000 for three
  • $500,000 for five
  • $750,000 for seven
  • $1 million for nine

Hopkins is a star player, I hope we get him. But I could also see him picking a team like the Titans…I hope not.

What he wants
Yeah.. he's made well over 100 milly so I'm sure he's not ordering from the McDonald's value menu...

Watching his interview.. he says the qb doesn't have to be great.. he's played well with lesser QBs, he says he wants stable management upstairs more than anything. He's also publicly stated how much he loves BB and wants to lay for him! So guess will know next 48 hours if he thinks NE is a destination for him..
