Deandre Hopkins Visiting Patriots Next Week

As I suspected, Hopkins isn’t satisfied with the options currently available to him and is waiting for a more favorable market to manifest itself.

Favorable was over a month ago IMO. $ is drying up. Its a mistake on his part to keep waiting I think.

With all do respect, lately I’ve seen you making so many post trying to achieve/police it, that it’s not much better then a bunch of off topic post itself. The difference is, you are spending a lot of your own time trying to do so, and baring banning users ,you’ll most likely never achieve your intended results. This is an Internet forum board after all, not some town hall/senate meeting.

At this point the majority of us are aware of the block/ignore feature, so if it’s really bothering users you shouldn’t have to constantly inform users about off topic posts. If you’re going to take an authoritative tone/ position, the better solution would be to just delete the post themselves.
I am with Ross. Take the tired out 3 year old Brady/BB argument and have it somewhere the hell else not in a thread about a free agent we're hoping to sign and waiting on news for. I don't care if there is a mute function. 99% of the forum shouldn't have to adjust to the same couple of people who can't help themselves.

Yes he would be, and yes they do... But they need to save their bread for a Hopkins signing, and then for a possible Jonah Williams trade.
Cook could’ve taken a pay cut and stayed with the Vikings, but instead opted to bet on himself in the open market. He was set to make $14 million but the Vikings decided it was better to eat $5 million in dead cap space and save $9 million than to pay him $14 million. This is also him coming off his second-worst season in his career in terms of yards per game, a sign he may be slowing down. He’s insisting his shoulder problems are behind him now and that he can run like he did at Florida State, but those are things he *should* be saying as he’s looking for someone to sign him. I think ultimately he and Hopkins will sign for less than what they were hoping for, it’s just a matter of when and with which team.

Neither guy is going to get a big contract unless a contending team has their #1 WR or RB get injured, and an anxious GM pulls the trigger. Cook made a mistake, IMHO. Banking $5M for retirement should be priority #1 at this point in his career.

it's not going to happen. this is basically at the point of praying someone will offer him more before training camp. But the market is set and teams don't have the money. At some point he will just accept his offer.

I can kinda see the idea of going for Cook. If BOB wants to run a lot of RPOs then it may be ideal to have two backs that are serious threats in Stevenson and Cook. If that’s successful then the current WR group will find a lot more separation than they used to.

I like cook as well.. however I'm of the mind of letting the backs we do have get some run.. we drafted strong jr. And harris to be contributing. I want to see what they can be for this offense. Cook is phenomenal.. however he was playing with JJ, and TJ hockenson. I think we are ok at RB.. Rham is an ascending level all- purpose back and I want the ball in his hands more often than not. I feel that D hop will sign and that makes the offense so much better.

LOL. This board still treating Dhop as second coming of Jerry Rice. He alone will not make a substantive difference except adding to his bank account.
He made it clear earlier he did not really want to play here and is only in play b/o lack of other offers. He has antibodies to practice…its a bad cultural fit
If he does not come its fine! Use the cap space to find a LT who can block and a veteran RB to bolster running game.

he had 64 receptions 717 yards and 3 td's in 9 games last year....Jakobi meyers was our top receiver with 804 yards all year...he clearly would be our most talented receiver.

D Hop is the next coming of D Hop, his skills haven’t diminished that much assuming he stays healthy. He’s better and more reliable than Devante Parker, who can’t stay healthy at all. One knee injury for Hopkins in 2021 isn’t a trend.

DeAndre Hopkins isn’t 2007 Randy Moss but he doesn’t have to be. The moment he signs with the Pats he instantly becomes the best wide receiver on the roster by a country mile. He was suspended for the first 6 games of last season, then came in and had 717 yards in 9 games. Only 3 of those games he had Kyler Murray throwing to him, the rest were with Colt McCoy and Trace McSorley. And yet 717 in 9 averages out to 1,355 yards in 17 games. Yeah, I think we’d take that out of our #1 wideout.

Not just that though, but it’s what he does for the rest of the offense. DeVante Parker doesn’t command double coverage but Hopkins does. Having him out there will free things up for the other receivers. Don’t forget he’s had his most success with Bill O’Brien’s offense, and Bill Belichick offered high praise just six months ago and called him as good as any receiver he has ever coached against. Hopkins adds a credible threat to the passing/receiving game that opposing coaches must account for and a much needed reliable target for Mac. It raises the ceiling for what this offense is capable of, all while keeping him away from another AFC roster in the process. That is why Pats fans like myself are so eager to see him sign here. Hopefully he does.

Not at the money he'll want. No chance.

To me, only way bringing in Dalvin Cook would make sense is if Rhamondre Stevenson was lost for the season. Replace a workhorse back with receiving chops with another. Otherwise it’s a waste of resources. If Cook was at a stage in his career where he’d accept a backup role at a team friendly price that’s one thing. But this is a guy who will be 28 at the start of the season, coming off his 4th straight Pro Bowl season, who still believes he’s a lead back in this league and will be looking to be paid as such. They already have Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris as in-house candidates to handle the load in the absence of Stevenson. Cook is not a fit for what the Patriots need most right now, and he’s most likely waiting for a starter to go down in preseason before signing anywhere. Hopkins fills a glaring need (a true alpha WR option) and I’d rather see the money go to improving the tackle situation if possible. Is Cook an upgrade over the other backup options? Absolutely. But it’s the cost that would be the most concerning.

At the money he’s currently stated to be asking for, absolutely no chance. But I think we all know no team is going to give that. Few teams even have the money to do it right now in the first place, and if they did, they’re not likely going to blow their precious remaining space on a running back. Once his price comes down I can see it.
